DSS/DS ISCG-05 Chain Retention System These instructions are for the 2009 DSS/DS ISCG-05 with Turbocharger bashguard. Remove the crankset from your bike. Fig 2 Fig 1 Check your drivetrain components to be sure everything is undamaged and straight. Bent parts hinder performance! 2. Insert the DSS bearing into the side of the roller. From the other side, insert the custom aluminum axle. Complete the roller assembly by carefully pressing the other DSS bearing over the axle. (Fig 1) 3. Insert the two M5 x 30mm bolts through the holes on the plastic outerguard. Slide the roller assembly onto the rear bolt, and put the silver washer on. Insert the lower assembly through the steel backplate and affix with the M5 nylon lock nuts. (Fig 2) and (Fig 3). Leave the M5 bolts loose for now. Silver washer Fig 3 4. Use the three Torx25 low profile pan head bolts to attach the backplate to the ISCG05 tabs. (Fig 4) For now, tighten these bolts so that the backplate does not rotate by itself. Fig 4 Fig 5 4.8Nm 5. Attach the Turbocharger Bashguard (DSS Only) to your crankset with stock chainring bolts. The chainring is attached to the inner side of the chainring tabs, and the bashguard is placed on the outside of the chainring tabs. Torque the bolts to 4.8 Nm, roughly the amount you can tighten with the Short end of an “L” shaped 5mm allen wrench. The inserts in the Turbocharger will prevent damage in the event of overtorquing. Locktite is not needed. 6. Reinstall cranks and tighten fully. The middle chainring should be centered over the smaller roller step (Fig 6). If it is not, ISCG spacers can be used behind the backplate to push the backplate outward 2.5mm. If your inner crank bolts touch the backplate, use the 1.25mm ISCG spacers between the backplate and the roller assembly to extend it outward. 7. Rotate the backplate so that the top of the roller assembly is level with the bottom of your Bottom Bracket shell. (Fig 7). Some frames do not allow this much rotation, so get it as close as possible. The lower slider should be positioned 3mm away from the edge of the bashguard, and torqued to 0.9 Nm (a few turns past finger tight, when the roller just holds itself in place). Tighten Fig 7 the Torx-25 low profile pan head bolts to 6 Nm. Fig 6 3mm 0.9 Nm 6 Nm 435 Lancaster St Suite# 101 Leominster, MA 01453 978.537.9313 www.e13components.com
