Keeping You on Track Toward Compliance
Simplify & Streamline PTC With the DTSMS
The drop-in-place DTSMS is your smartest investment – meeting your PTC needs and maintaining the highest safety standards – at the lowest total cost. Time compression, reducing total cost of ownership, and increasing safety are critical needs in the railroad industry, and the DTSMS satisfies these requirements better than other available solutions. The DTSMS solves the dark territory capacity challenge to meet the Federal PTC deadline, and eliminates the need to design, create, assemble, and integrate an in-house solution.
Fully Integrated, Engineered Design integrates the GE
ElectroBlox™ Wayside Interface Unit (WIU), the Ventev® TPS™
Tower, an industry-leading RF Propagation System, and Power-
Management System – on a single pier. The engineering work is already done for you.
Factory Testing ensures that the DTSMS works out of the box with all sub-systems tested before shipment. This means that intermediate testing usually required to activate the system is nearly complete when the DTSMS arrives – simply test for proper grounding and ensure that the WIU is sending the correct switch position via the on-board PTC communications system.
Drop-in-Place, Turnkey System is delivered as a fully kitted solution for fastest installation and deployment. Just uncrate, install, power up, and commission in less than two hours. The
DTSMS drops in place on a single pier foundation – fully assembled, and ready to go.
Highest Safety Standards have been met, including AREMA wiring standards, with a pre-assembled, pre-wired, pre-tested solution specifically designed with crew safety in mind. The
Ventev TPS Towers ensure that ladder-free maintenance can be performed by a single crew member.
Easy, Low-Cost Maintenance is expected with this fully wired and tested design; but should maintenance be required, rely on the TPS Articulating Tower to enable single-crew, ladder-free access to the antenna and cabling in less than three minutes.
Fast Deployment will ensure compliance of the Federal deadline. On average, 3.8 systems need to be deployed every day of the week, for the next five years, to support more than 7,000 presently-dark territory switch locations. Fully Integrated Positive Train Control Solution www.tessco.com/go/DTSMS
PTC Compliance Just
Got Easier, Faster &
More Economical
Global technology leaders
GE Transportation and TESSCO
Technologies have developed the fully integrated Dark
Territory Switch Monitoring
System (DTSMS) – a drop-inplace, turnkey solution that ensures effective, efficient
Positive Train Control (PTC) compliance. By combining leading power, communication, and radio frequency technologies with innovative signaling solutions such as the
ElectroBlox™ Wayside
Interface Unit (WIU), this important partnership yields a revolutionary, best-in-class
System that features various preassembled configurations, plug-and-play operation, and the Ventev® True Positive Stop™
(TPS™) articulating mast for ground-level access.
GE ElectroBlox
Wayside Interface Unit
The Vital Link to PTC
The DTSMS is designed to support, environmentally protect, and enable the critically important GE ElectroBlox™ Wayside Interface
Unit (WIU) – a “chassis-less” vital controller that can be DIN rail, wall, or shelf mounted.
Flexible Architecture enables a single WIU to monitor a location, even a
Dark Territory Switch PTC location, with no additional equipment, ensuring a footprint that requires the smallest, most economical enclosure.
Human Machine Interface features an embedded HTML server that provides a modern point-and-click graphical user interface based on the
ElectroLogIXS® VLC user interface, allowing access to complete system status and diagnostic information within “two clicks or less.” Accessed by simply plugging in a standard Ethernet cable into one of its five DHCPenabled Ethernet ports, the commonality with the ElectroLogIXS VLC and
DHCP capability make the mean-time-to-repair as short as possible.
Advanced Diagnostics and Recording Capabilities common to the
ElectroLogIXS VLC and EC5 integrated WIU units are utilized on the
ElectroBlox WIU. Additionally, the WIU “miscellaneous” port provides port mirroring capability so that advanced diagnostics can be performed without having to diconnect the WIU from its environment, promoting efficient installation and maintenance.
Application Programming and Configuration is performed within the
GE PTC Configuration Tool, v4 or later, the same Windows-based application used to configure the existing GE Plug-&-Play integrated WIUs. The
ElectroBlox WIU utilizes the same PTC Rule Library established for the integrated WIUs, providing the fastest, lowest-cost configuration possible.
Communications and Networking is made possible by five Ethernet connections, capable of providing: EMP-C/D Interface to the Wayside
Message Server, Diagnostic and Maintenance Interface, Port
Mirroring/Monitoring Interface (all traffic), and vital remote links (up to 32 remote links communicating up to a total of 386 Vital Inputs and 64 Vital
Outputs).

Ventev True Positive Stop Articulating Tower
The Industry-Leading PTC Tower Choice
Available exclusively through TESSCO, the Ventev® True
Positive Stop™ (TPS™) Articulating Tower is the industry-leading PTC choice for ensuring lowest total lifecycle costs and maximizing worker safety. As the industry’s only TPS articulating mast, the tower’s innovative design ensures safe, reliable ground-level access, and efficient installation and maintenance. The
Ventev TPS Tower is available in 20-, 40- and 60-foot versions to meet topographical requirements, and supports both solar arrays and communication systems.
Safety Saves in the Long Run
Not all tower designs are created equal. Unlike winch and cable systems that rely on gravity to prevent accidents, the non-hydraulic jackscrew used in the Ventev TPS design guarantees that the tower will stop moving in both ascension and descension – in any environment. Using a ½-inch, 18-volt drill, a single technician can achieve ladder-free access in less than three minutes. And without guy wire, the revolutionary
TPS design reduces the risk for catastrophic accidents, while ensuring rapid deployment and the lowest total maintenance costs.
Vandal-Resistant, Secure Design
Vandalism and theft protection are integral to the TPS design.
The non-hydraulic jackscrew locks in place using a padlock, which prevents unauthorized articulation of the tower. If you can’t unlock the padlock, you can’t lower the tower.
Lowest Total Installation/Maintenance Cost
This Ventev-engineered solution dramatically reduces installation time and maintenance requirements. After arriving on site, most TPS towers can be installed in less than 30 minutes – simply unfold the mast, secure the non-hydraulic jackscrew, and set the tower on the foundation with a crane or boom truck. Universal foundation bolt patterns and solar panel mounts enable easy avoidance of site-specific obstacles and orientation to southern exposure. Say goodbye to quarterly visual guy wire inspections, and instead take advantage of simple, quick annual maintenance made possible by the post-manufacturing hot-dip galvanization process and fully weatherized, sealed jackscrew casing.
Universal Foundation Compatibility Design
Engineered for compatibility with a full line of industry-leading precast helical and precast concrete solutions, the TPS Articulating Towers reduce stress on the supply chain and enable install crews to overcome geological challenges they may encounter.
The Turnkey Dark Territory Switch Monitoring System

Let GE and TESSCO solve your dark territory needs with the easy-to-deploy, drop-in-place
DTSMS.
