The International CB (Certification Body) Scheme was
created by the world’s leading electrotechnical testing
organizations, which joined together to form the International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The CB Scheme was
implemented to overcome international trade barriers and
assist electrotechnical equipment manufacturers in gaining
rapid approval for foreign markets.

The CB Scheme process

After successful testing, a CB Certificate with a CB test
report, including national deviations, is issued. With
this internationally valid certificate and test report,
manufacturers can obtain national product certification by
applying to any CB Scheme member worldwide to receive

In the U.S., TÜV SÜD America Inc. provides local CB
Scheme services. Two of our U.S. locations are qualified
as Certification Body Testing Laboratories (CBTL), enabling
testing to be completed locally and a CB Scheme Certificate
to be issued by TÜV SÜD Product Service, a recognized
National Certification Body for the CB Scheme.
