Water-Based Adhesives for Wet Lamination “CHEMICRYL” CHEMLINE offers two different grades of Wet Lamination Adhesives. One is the General Purpose Grade and other Special Grade especially developed for Folding / Embossing and Creasing applications. Hence, the grades are suitable for : Lamination of films (BOPP/PET, PVC) or Aluminium Foil etc. to Paper/Duplex Board. Quick Drying, wrinkle-free product, even if aged at 70 to 80 Degrees Celsius. Superior Bond gives paper-tear or ink transfer on delamination. Folding/Creasing and Embossing in Cartons and Guttering in Books. Dry Lamination Adhesives CHEMLINE offers both water based and solvent based Dry Lamination Adhesives suitable for machines like Bilhofer, Paperplast, Wenchuan etc. In this process, adhesive is applied on the film and dried before lamination by hot nipping under pressure. It is suitable for: Plain Film (BOPP, PET, PVC) to Printed Paper Board. Folding/Creasing and Embossing in Cartons and Guttering in Books. Fast setting/curing, Good bonding between Printed surface to film. It is odourless. Suitable for high speed machines (50 mt./min.). On-line slitting can be done in the application of film to printed paper/board using dry lamination. No change in ink shades on lamination. 3 Hot Melt Lamination Adhesives CHEMLINE offers excellent Hot Melt Adhesives for Print Lamination suitable for Bilhofer type of machines. In this system, instead of cold adhesive, Hotmelt Adhesive is applied on the film, which is then laminated to the printed surface. No evaporation of solvent and moisture is required and laminate instantly cures on cooling and ready for the further operations. Important Precautions For Laminating Printed Surfaces In wet lamination, it is recommended to cure the laminated sheet in the roll form for few hours before next operation. Sometimes, blisters may develop if uncured sheets are slit and used for further operation. It is important for the sheet to be completely dry before laminating which means ink has to be fully set and cured. Pressure of just in time delivery makes it difficult to ensure proper curing of inks. Hence choose quick drying inks with minimal residual solvents. In Dry Lamination, Hot Melt Lamination and Thermal Lamination Process, heat of the lamination machine can cause wet sheets and inks to bubble and begin gassing, resulting in air being trapped between film and printed sheet, which can show as blisters. Hence proper curing of inks is also important in dry laminating process. Occasionally, it may be required to emboss, foil stamp or glue the laminated sheet. In such cases, the laminate must have high dyne count for the film to accept foil or glue. For such applications, both sides corona treated film or chemically treated polyester film is recommended. It is also recommended to wait for 24 hours after the sheet is laminated to avoid potential air bubbles. Sometimes, curling may occur on one side or both side of laminated sheets. This curl is induced by stretch of the film which can be corrected by decreasing unwind tension of the film. This can further be adjusted by decreasing lamination temperature and nip pressure. In one side laminated sheets, curl is induced by absorption of moisture and expansion of unlaminated side. Hence, avoiding humidity and keeping sheets dry prior and after lamination shall prevent this type of curl. After printing, fine powder is applied on the sheets to avoid sheets sticking to each other because of wet ink. It is recommended to increase grammage of adhesive to take care of powder. Best thing is to remove powder by using powder removing unit either on-line or off-line during lamination. 4 ANIMAL JELLY GLUES CHEMLINE offers a full range of “QUIK LOCK” Animal Jelly Glues for following applications: For Hard Case Making : CHEMLINE offers 2 different “QUIK LOCK” grades for hard case making on High and Medium Speed machines for pasting of PVC/PU Book Cover, Laminated/Printed Book Covers. Two component system. Superior bond strength in all kinds of applications. No odour when dried. Solvent Based Polyurethane / Polyester Based Adhesives : In this laminating system, solvent based adhesive is applied on one of the substrates through gravure process and thus the solvent is evaporated and dried in drying tunnel and subsequently laminated to the other substrate. One of these substrates is reverse printed. Lamination is done by hot nipping under pressure and Adhesive curing is achieved by use of polyisocynate hardner. Grades of Solvent-Based Lamination Adhesive: General Purpose Grade with different solids of 25, 30, 60, 75 per cent. Medium Performance Adhesive with 60 and 66 per cent solids. High Bond Adhesive with 60 per cent solids for retort and aggresive material packing. Polyester Grade Adhesive with 80 per cent solids. Hardener with 50 and 75 per cent solids. 9 Solventless Two Component Adhesive : CHEMLINE offers superior solventless two component adhesive consisting of OH and NCO parts having 100% solids. Applications of adhesive is done within a temperature range of 40-50 Deg. Cel. by dozing the two adhesives in the ratio of 40 : 100 parts (OH and NCO separately) on the application systems where simultaneous mixing and application takes place. Since it is 100% solid adhesive, hence no evaporation of solvent is necessary before lamination. Also there is no possibility of entrapped solvent resulting in solvent odour in the final laminate. Important precautions in Film to Film Lamination: Care shall be taken that adhesive and hardner does not get contaminated with water or alcohol during mixing and processing. This will effect the pot life and bond strength of the Laminate. Processing place shall be well ventilated. Converting area should be flame proof to avoid any accident. After mixing adhesive with hardner, it should be used within eight (8) hours. Drying tunnel temperature should be carefully selected on the basis of substrate used and speed of the machine. Films like BOPP can shrink at high temperature. Hence maintain the temperature with maximum air-flow with negative pressure in the tunnel. Nip roller temperature must be maintained between 60-80 Deg. Cel. with adequate nip pressure. Under these conditions the adhesive shall soften to wet secondary substrate with good quality lamination, free of entrapped air bubbles. Ensure complete removal of residual solvents of ink in the secondary substrate before lamination. In case of paper to film lamination, it may be required to humidify paper by application of humectants to avoid curl in the final product. In such cases, lamination of paper to be done on side other than where humectants is applied. Laminate roll must rewound under proper tension for curing of the laminate. Further processing should be done only after fully curing the laminate. This curing can be accelerated by storing the laminate rolls at slightly higher temperature above room temperature. For solvent less adhesives system, special attention to be taken because it contains Diphenylmethane diisocynate (MDI) so adhesive must be processed in well-ventilated area. Solvent less adhesive must be used within 45 minutes after mixing NCO and OH parts. 10 HOT MELTS FOR SOAP WRAPPER COATING It is highly suitable for inner coating of soap and chocolate wrappers and further heat sealing of soap and chocolate wrappers on automatic soap / chocolate wrapping machines.
