 PURPOSE STATEMENT 600/5964/3 ILM Level 3 Diploma in Leadership and Management (QCF) Summary of qualification This qualification has been designed for individuals who have leadership and management responsibilities. The qualification supports practising team leaders who wish to progress to the next level of management as well as managers who need to lead people though organisational change, budget cuts or other pressures. You will gain 37 credits on successful completion of the qualification. There are 2 groups of units to choose from and these are shown below. From Group 1, you must choose units that total a minimum of 19 credits. From Group 2, units totalling a maximum of 18 credits are required. The qualification will take between 88 and 199 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) of study, depending on the optional units you choose and is required to be completed within a maximum of three years. The qualification is currently not included within any apprenticeship framework. You may wish to speak with your employer in order to choose the units that best fit the needs of both yourself and your employer. What skills and knowledge will be developed? As a learner on this qualification you will develop a range of skills and knowledge required for leading and managing others. The qualification is made up of a wide range of units covering core management skills – such as understanding how to organise and delegate – plus skills in communication, team leadership, change, innovation and managing people and relationships. This flexibility in unit choice allows the qualification to be tailored to meet the needs of both yourself and your employer. This qualification is suitable if you are aged at least 16 years and are currently working or interested in a career in Leadership and/or Management. There are no prior qualification entry requirements to study this qualification although ideally you will be working within an organisation where you are able to gain the knowledge and experience that will enable you to complete the qualification. You may also use previous experience of either working in an organisation or one that you are familiar with. PROGRESSION FROM THIS QUALIFICATION Employment Leadership and Management skills are applicable and required in all industries and sectors. Job titles will vary but may include the following: 

Recruitment Manager Further learning On successful completion of this qualification, you may wish to progress onto a range of ILM qualifications, such as:  Level 3 Certificate in Coaching (QCF)  Level 4 Certificate in Leadership and Management (QCF)  Level 3 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring (QCF)  Level 4 Diploma in Leadership and Management (QCF)  Level 3 Certificate in Mentoring (QCF)  Level 4 Award in Leadership and Management (QCF) You may also wish to undertake similar Ofqual regulated qualifications offered by other awarding organisations. Alternatives to this qualification There are no directly equivalent qualifications that allow you to develop the skills and knowledge stated in the units. ILM offers shorter qualifications: (600/5934/5) Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management (QCF) and (601/3699/6) Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Leadership and Management (QCF), where your skills and knowledge are developed in the areas of problem solving and decision making. SUPPORT FOR THIS QUALIFICATION Employers This qualification is supported by a number of employers such as Chaucer Insurance and HIT Training Ltd., who use the qualification to ensure that their employees are able to perform to the required standards. Higher Education (HEIs) This qualification is not suitable for delivery by HEIs. No formal recognition pathways are in place enabling learners to progress to study on a higher education programme of study. Professional bodies ILM is a professional membership body for Leadership and Management professionals. Upon commencement of this qualification, you are eligible to become a studying member. Upon successful completion of the qualification, you may apply for ILM membership at either ‘Associate member’ or ‘Member’ grade.
