CHEC (Group) , in joint venture with Costain Co.Ltd. was awarded the contract
of Energia Costa Azul Lng Terminal,
Work Pack 2 – Breakwter Mexico on
January 2005.
The proposed Costa Azul LNG Terminal
is located on the Pacific Coast of the
Baja California, approximately 80 km
south of Tijuana.
To provide seastate protection to the
LNG unloading berth, a caisson breakwater will be built approximately 300 m
offshore at the Terminal location. The
breakwater is 700m long in 25m water
depth.
The breakwater concept assumes the
installation of 18 Nr. precast concrete
caissons, which are founded on a prepared seabed. Scour protection is
placed around the perimeter of the caissons. The caissons will be constructed
at a purpose built construction yard.
The proposed caisson dimensions are
33m wide, 36m long and 25.5m high.
Each caisson consists of a 1m deep
base slab and 9 Nr. vertical concrete
walls intersecting to form a grillage.
The structural arrangement has resulted
in 12Nr. cells on plan.
