POSITION TITLE: DEPARTMENT: FLSA STATUS: Electrical Engineering Intern Engineering Non-Exempt POSITION SUMMARY: Realityworks is offering a hands-on internship experience as an Electrical Engineering Intern. Electrical Engineering Interns work in an office environment, as part of a cross-functional team. The Electrical Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting with designing embedded mixed signal electrical systems including research, design, prototyping, debugging, and documentation. Interns work closely with an assigned mentor and work on tasks to apply their advanced knowledge in electrical engineering to challenging real life applications. LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: The internship is part-time, up to 20 hours per week during the 2016-2017 school year, with potential for full-time hours during the summer of 2017. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate class schedules. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of electronics and engineering methods Designs electrical designs through schematic capture and maintenance, bill of material creation, printed circuit board layout, and drafting of assembly instructions Confirms system's and components' capabilities by designing testing methods, inspecting prototype boards, and performing testing individually as well as interfacing with technicians to conduct some of the hands-on work Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components, soliciting observations from operators Assures product quality by designing electrical testing methods; tests finished products and assesses system capabilities Shares information and research results by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends Supports and interfaces with other engineering staff by answering questions, offering suggestions, and engaging in group development projects Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures, requesting repair service Completes projects by training and guiding technicians Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed Performs other additional duties as assigned or required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of electronic systems, analog electronics, digital electronics, electronics troubleshooting, and electronic testing design Knowledge of project management, database design, and reporting research results Page | 1 Electrical Engineering Intern Rev. 08/2016 High level of attention to detail and critical thinking ability, with emphasis on excellence and innovation Ability to use sound judgment and decision-making Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills Ability to manage priorities and workflow Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Actively enrolled in a degree program focused on electrical engineering Familiarity with engineering tools and test equipment Proficient on basic computer programs: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is sedentary with occasional walking and standing in a general office setting. Minimal presence of hazards. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Minimal local travel, as needed.
