The make-up phase marks the transition from batch

Working with a trusted
manufacturer, Kaman specified
a reduced maintenance version
of a standard high temperature
bearing. The recommended
bearing design dramatically
extended service life due to a
patented race profile feature that
allows for maximum utilization
of grease within the bearing.
The company installed the high
performance bearings in its
ovens and noted that the new
bearings delivered four times
the life of the previously used
graphite bearings.
A baked goods manufacturer
was dissatisfied with the life
span of the graphite insert
bearings in their baking ovens.
The bearings were exposed to
temperatures of at least 350°
at slow operating speeds and
were lasting just three months,
creating unacceptable levels of
downtime and maintenance. It
was critical to have a bearing
design that could withstand
high temperatures and did not
require frequent relubrication for
sanitation reasons.

associated with lubrication and
adjustment of the roller chain
drives being used to power
the conveyors.
Kaman proposed switching the
chain drives to synchronous belt
drives in order to provide
a low-maintenance alternative.
In contrast to chain drives,
belts do not typically require
frequent re-tensioning and
lubrication is minimized. The
belt manufacturer’s factory
staff provided the appropriate
engineering support needed
to help convert the bakery’s
20 conveyors. In the end,
Kaman’s customer realized
annual time and material cost
savings resulting from reduced
maintenance, downtime and
lubricant usage.

to identify a replacement for
a cracked gearbox.
