Fluorescent lamps are arc tubes that create light
and unfortunately, a harmful kind of electromagnetic noise (EMI) heard by the patient monitoring equipment. This noise must be arrested by
the surgical troffer. Kurtzon mitigates that noise
by the use of a conductive silver grid between
the lamps and the lens. The grid works by trapping the noise within the lamps cavity and sinking it to ground through a redundant system of
cables and fasteners.
Ballasts are also noise generators. Their noise
shows up as RF energy superimposed on the
power line feeding the fixtures. This noise can
make its way back into the power that supplies
the sensitive electrical equipment in the suite.
Kurtzon has developed a power line filter designed to eliminate the conducted emissions of
today’s high frequency electronic ballasts.
The relevant testing requirements for EMI or RF
control are found within the military standard
MIL-STD-461F under radiated (RE101) and conducted emissions (CE102)
Placing fixtures close together in surgical suites
has been a necessity but ordinary troffers do this
poorly. Overlapping flanges and gaps between
ordinary fixtures has created health issues. Kurtzon’s ML series are designed to be continuous row
mounted without compromising the ceiling and
sterile field integrity.

Asymmetric Distribution:
The surgical suite is a busy place. The ceiling
space has more equipment than any other surface. Air filters and equipment booms take up
much of the area near the patient, leaving the
supplemental surgical lighting to the perimeter of
the surgical field. To take best advantage of this
situation we use asymmetric distributing fixtures
to send high levels of light over the patient. This
light fills in the shadows caused by the task light
and reduces eye strain and fatigue. The ML
series fixtures are intended to exceed the IES
guidelines of 200fc for supplemental illumination
of surgical fields.

Sterile Surfaces:
Antimicrobial finishes are common these days
among surgical troffers. However there are
better and more effective coatings such as
Agion by DupontTM. Agion uses the silver
ion exchange process that provides continuous protection for the life of the finish. It does
not loose its effectiveness with wear or time.
Kurtzon uses Agiontm powder coatings in ML
troffers.
Cleanroom Performance:
A sealed plenum space is essential to a surgical
suite. Air is filtered and sterilized before it enters the room. It would be of little benefit if the
fixtures allowed ordinary air to enter the room
through gaps and penetrations. That is why the
ML series fixtures are hole free, have no overlapping flanges and have sealed knockouts. We
even use our cleanroom grade gasketing systems
to seal the doorframes.

Housing: Non-magnetic stainless steel
body and spun aluminum housing and
plaster frame. All hardware and components are not magnetic.
Door Frame: Aluminum or stainless steel
formed with continuous lens hold-down
system and screwless entry. Cleanroom
style construction with a smooth cleanable surface with no crevices.
Gaskets: NSF listed closed microcellular
extruded gasket located at interface of
door to housing. NSF Listed silicone seals
the door to the lens.
Baffle: White elliptical grooved baffle
controls stray light for high visual comfort,
without glare. Other options listed below.
Lens: Clear non-prismatic .125” thick virgin acrylic silicone sealed to IP-65 for dust
and water resistance.
LED: Remote Phosphor technology for
consistent color. Commercially available, field replaceable LED modules from
Philips. Fortimo DLM series available in
several color temperatures. Rated at 2000
lumens.
Electrical: Constant current static low voltage
DC provided from matching remote driver
designed to not effect measurement equipment. Driver has 0-10v dimming control
compatible with all common 0-10v dimming
systems. Each driver can supply one fixture
through a EMI entrance filter purchased separately. See Instructions for details.

Housing: Welded 20-gauge CRS construction. Fully satin white powder coated. All
seams of hole-free housing sealed. Designed for proper installation in standard 1" and
1.5" T-bar grid ceilings..
Fixture Type:
Gasket: Neoprene, 100% pure, closed cell located at interface of housing and T-bar
grid.
Reflector: Full reflector panel designed to enhance asymmetric distribution. High
reflectance white powder coat finished (minimum reflectivity 92%).
Lens: One piece linear regressed acrylic lens provided high lamp hiding.
Lamps: See lamp options listed below. Lamps supplied by others.
Electrical: Standard ballasts - Electronic, less than 10% THD high performance
program start universal voltage (120-277 volt). Two ballasts/circuits are standard.
One each for Exam and Ambient illumination. Exam circuit is thermally protected to

Finish: White satin architectural matte polyester powder coated over multi-stage
