Charles will present an overview of how the new laws will affect schools and what changes you will need to make to your existing policies and procedures. Phil’s presentation will cover: • Master Painters NZ Association – who are they? – what makes MPA different? – the organisation – what security does MPA offer? – specifications; – inspections; – member accountability; • Coatings – new systems vs old; – pre-primed coatings – specialised coatings; – applicator qualifications & responsibilities; – dealing with lead-based coatings. ‘Test & Tag’ Appliance Testing ✪ Stuart Taylor Registered Electrician, Electrain The Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 requires electrical equipment to be electrically safe. The person doing the testing does not need to hold electrical registration but does need to be competent. Stuart will provide an introduction to the legal requirements. Topics will include: • AS/NZS 3760 In Service Testing – requirements, processes, test methods and results; • testing IT equipment; • appliances classes – Class 1, Class 2, extension cords, portable RCD’s; • limits of testing; • visual testing; • electrical tests; • use of a portable appliance test unit (PAT unit). Note: this is not a qualification session. Maintaining Synthetic Sports Fields and Play Areas ✪ Spencer Myer New Zealand Sports Turf Institute A synthetic turf pitch can be an asset for winter play and sports like hockey and tennis. Sustainable and timely maintenance reduces the cost and maintains the usable value for a school. Links Between Learning and Landscapes ✪ Jill Rice Landscape Architect, Get Outside Ltd Jill asks the question, "How can the outdoor environment of a school best contribute to children’s learning?” She is a firm believer in the Reggio Emilia concept that “the environment is the third teacher”, and she will discuss the notion that offering children well-designed environments, and involving them in the design and management of their own outdoor areas can inspire and empower all ages and abilities as learners. Jill will confirm the important role of the property manager with plenty of examples of student projects and practical points to consider when developing a management plan for your own outdoor environments. An unusual choice for someone who hadn’t rowed before – and who is prone to sea-sickness. Nevertheless, applying skills from his business career, Kevin took on the challenge and transformed himself into a world record-beating endurance athlete. Together with his rowing partner he went on to undertake a much tougher challenge – the firstever unsupported trek from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back. Since then, Kevin has been the CEO of a software start-up and has written/co-written three books. Stuart has been in the electrical industry for over 50 years. In 2008 he was approved by the Electrical Workers Registration Board to become one of their Approved Competency Program Trainers and set up his own business, Electrain Ltd, to provide training and consultation services to the electrical trades. With his years of experience Stuart has a wealth of knowledge of Electrical Regulations and Standards and is often called upon for advice. Bill Howard has advised on grounds, gardens and woodlands in UK, Europe and throughout New Zealand. He established Howard Landscape Artistry in Christchurch 10 years ago which is known for beautiful solutions coupled with a realistic, common sense approach. ✪ General Manager Building & Compliance, Argest Spencer Myer Paul has extensive experience in project management planning and programming: he was Project Manager for the $40 million Clearwater Resort Golf Course and Residential Subdivision in Christchurch.
