SLU-Madrid’s summer session classes are intensive and normally meet from Monday through Thursday for five weeks. All courses
are accredited and fulfill Saint Louis University degree requirements. Integrated into our summer program are social events and
cultural activities on and off campus:





Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage (Intercession: May 17-21)
Guided day trips to Monasterio de Piedra, Toledo, Segovia and El Escorial/Valley of the Fallen
Weekend trips to Sevilla, Barcelona, the Canary Islands (Astronomy) and the Mediterranean Coast (Oceanography)
Walking tours of Madrid, museum visits, tapas nights, flamenco shows, Spanish cooking classes and more…
Experience Spain! Register for at least one class to be eligible for a discounted “experience” package, which includes a
faculty-led walking tour of Madrid, guided day trips to nearby El Escorial and Toledo, a three-day trip to Barcelona (Summer
I) and a closing banquet. Pre-registration required.
Special Courses and Programs for 2017
On the Road - Spain: SPAN 2930 España sobre ruedas takes you out of the classroom and into the heart of Spain, building language
skills and deepening your understanding of the country’s culture and history. This new “road” course travels through Spain’s
countryside and selected cities. Find out more on our Summer Programs website. Extra fees apply. Dates: May 22- June 4.
Make Madrid Your Language Lab: SPAN 2930 Conversaciones y paseos por Madrid. Practice speaking Spanish in Madrid’s famous
cafés, parks, markets and monuments. This course focuses on the practical application of conversation skills. Extra fees apply. Dates:
May 22- June 22 (Session I).
For Engineering Students: CVNG 2930 Spain’s Civil Infrastructure: Ancient to Modern. A study of Spanish civil engineering and
construction practices, with emphasis on comparisons of the old and the new. The course focuses on the inter-relationship between
humans and their built environment: aqueducts, canals, dams, bridges, highways. The two-week course includes excursions around
the Spanish countryside, with lectures at SLU-Madrid. Extra fees apply. Dates: May 22- June 4.
For Nursing Students: Nursing 4890: Madrid Summer Immersion Practicum in Nursing. An intensive clinical nursing practicum for
students with a high level of Spanish proficiency. Under the guidance of experienced Spanish nurse mentor/preceptors employed by
healthcare centers and hospitals in Spain, you will learn about health care delivery and the role of nursing in Spain. Dates: May 22June 22 (Session I).
Attention Student Athletes: “No Spain, No Gain”— Earn credits towards your degree and keep up with your training. Our Sports
Director advises student athletes on where to work out, run or swim. Discounts at local gyms are available for students as well.
Tuition and Fees: Summer tuition is about 50% lower than fall and spring semester tuition. The summer 2016 rate was 490 euros
($544, based on the March 1, 2016 exchange rate) per credit; 2017 tuition and housing rates will be posted online in February 2017.
Apply early! Course Registration opens on February 15, 2017. Special courses and programs have earlier application deadlines;
students requiring visas to enter Spain should apply at least two months prior to the first day of classes. Find out more at
