An office computer has an expected lifespan of 3 years. Life safety systems are expected to last 10 years
or more. Comark has thousands of UL recognized computers installed in life safety applications since
the late 1990s, most of which are still in active service.
Change Management
Computer and display technology is continuously changing. For the consumer, this is beneficial. However, for
computers and displays embedded in UL listed life safety systems, managing obsolescence comes at a high
cost of retest and certification. Comark has a comprehensive life cycle management system to ensure continuity
of supply while making the phase-in of new technologies as smooth as possible. Any product changes are
communicated to our customers far in advance and implemented only when approved.
UL File Maintenance
Comark has a long standing relationship with the Signaling Division Team at UL to ensure our products are
designed, recognized and built to appropriate UL and ULC requirements. If changes to our standard products
are required for improvement or obsolescence management, Comark absorbs any engineering and UL costs to
maintain UL Recognition. Comark works with UL and your compliance group to ensure the quickest
turn around possible.
