Proximus enjoys Spare Supply Chain Management (SSCM) with single point of contact service from Nokia in a Multi-Vendor Hardware environment. Delivering the Expert Advantage for Proximus By eliminating the complexity of managing multiple spare parts services from several suppliers, Belgian operator Proximus is enjoying lower costs and higher network quality. How was it done? The solution, was to implement a single point of contact with Nokia, which now handles the management of all spares and repairs. “The project governance is very well done, through the follow up and co-ordination by the local team who have taken end-to end ownership of the service. Nokia has shown a very positive attitude, flexibility and a problem-solving mindset.” Silvio Pastrani, Proximus 2 Proximus success story Proximus is the largest of Belgium’s three mobile network operators. With a variety of suppliers for its networks, managing spare parts for infrastructure is a complex task. Although there was a tool in place, the sheer number of vendors made it challenging to operate effectively. Challenges • A large number of vendors and their different spares and repairs services proved difficult for Proximus to manage Nokia was already the radio supplier to Proximus. To help Proximus reduce this complexity, Nokia offered its professional services as a single point of contact to manage all major OEMs on behalf of Proximus. Under this service arrangement, Proximus maintains its existing equipment supply and support contracts with these OEMs. Service gives delivery accuracy of 98.98%, with full transparency to service delivery Nokia manages the complete multi-vendor spare parts process as a service. This involves planning the stocks, the management of spare parts inventories and all associated warehousing and logistic tasks for over one thousand events a year, each with lead times of up to two hours. The service covers both mobile and fixed networks. Each technician has direct access to the Nokia service via a front end tool, while the Proximus management can use it to create ERP reports. Solution • Nokia proposed to act as a single point of contact to manage all spares and liaise with repair service vendors • Nokia now manages all major OEMs on behalf of Proximus. Proximus maintains its existing equipment supply and support contracts with these OEMs One of the main benefits to Proximus is that the endto-end follow-up of the repair chain from the field up to the repair center and back is in the hands of one supplier, meaning one party is responsible. Supporting public safety with fast and accurate repair times Another requirement has been the high degree of flexibility and accuracy of the deliveries. Nokia allows large items to be delivered to the field, an important factor for Proximus as it is the operator of Belgium’s Astrid public safety and security network. Together with Nokia SSCM for managing Multi-Vendor items, Nokia Spare Parts Management (SPM) service has allowed Proximus to save on spare parts, as the content of car kits and local stock was reduced. The IT department also avoided investment in expensive spare parts for the backbone. Benefits • Better network availability and reduced outages • Increased flexibility and high 98.98% accuracy of the deliveries • Savings made in spare parts stock • Improved quality as control of repair chain in hands of one company Choosing Nokia to provide SSCM and SPM services allowed Proximus to optimize the traceability of spare parts and repair times. Silvio Pastrani of Proximus, says: “Nokia’s service delivery shows great flexibility, with emergency deliveries around the clock, next business day and planned deliveries. The end-to-end process includes collection and deliveries in the field, warehousing and interaction with third party repair centers.” It has also allowed a better follow-up of the repair costs and repair time with third party vendors, leading to better network availability and reduced outages.
