founded in 1967, is the center of educational
opportunity in Delaware and Chester counties.
Students find success through associate degree and
certificate programs, a clear-cut course to a bachelor's
degree, career advancement opportunities or personal
fulfillment. With two campuses, seven centers and
eight locations, the College serves more than
28,000 students annually.
as much as they can, and I will work to help them.
I will be the first to attend college in my family.
That is both a dream of mine and my parents.

Men and women of all ages, from a wide array of
cultural backgrounds and at various points in their
education enroll at the College. Some students work
full time while others are returning to school after
raising their families. Some know exactly what their
career path will be while others are still searching.
However, they all have chosen the College because
of its quality educational programs and services that
encourage student success.

Scholarship, thanks the student coordinators for the Bridge

Professor of Communications Studies Danamarie Every.
Delaware County Community College Educational
Foundation's primary mission is to support students.
The Foundation's commitment to student success is
evident from the many scholarships and awards
described in these pages. Eligibility criteria are
established by the donors themselves. Academic
merit and financial need are the most common
criteria. Other factors frequently considered are
academic major, geographical location or for
special circumstances, such as “mature women”
or “part-time students.” All students are encouraged
to review eligibility requirements and to apply
as directed.
The Foundation also provides awards for faculty,
alumni, students, and staff members based on
teaching performance, professional accomplishments,
academic achievements and other measures.

SCHOLARSHIP
OR
AN
AWARD
Fulfill a Dream, Recognize an Achievement
The gift of a scholarship or award can help fulfill a student's
dream or recognize an achievement. Because of this support,
students will be well prepared to pursue rewarding careers with
opportunities for advancement and to become productive
members of society.
Anyone may establish a scholarship or award by contributing to
the College's Educational Foundation. Scholarships and awards
of all amounts are welcome. They may be named for the donor,
such as a corporation or individual, or in memory of or in
honor of a loved one.
All contributions are placed into restricted accounts and used
exclusively for the scholarship or award created by the donor.
Scholarships are credited to the recipients' accounts for tuition
or books, and an annual event is held each year to bring students
and donors together. Awards are presented at various times,
as dictated by the nature of the award.

I have learned that it is next to impossible to progress in the
workforce today without a college education, but just like most
people, the economic crisis has had an impact on me and
threatens to put my degree on hold; after 46 years it has
been on hold long enough.

ANNUAL
DINNER
Astronaut Col. Eileen M. Collins, the first woman
Shuttle commander, was the keynote speaker at the
2008 Dollars for Scholars Dinner. As a community
college graduate, Col. Collins was an inspiration to
students, particularly those majoring in challenging
fields of science, technology, engineering and
mathematics, known as STEM fields. Her selection
as a speaker complements the College's current
STEM initiative and the construction of a STEM
Complex on the Marple Campus.
Despite the advanced education
required to become an astronaut,
Col. Collins demonstrated that this
goal is achievable for community
college graduates and that income
and privilege are not barriers to
students who choose to reach
for the stars.
College President Jerome S. Parker welcomes Col. Eileen M. Collins and
U.S. Representative Joe Sestak along with Kathleen A. Breslin, Executive
Director of the College Educational Foundation and Vice President for
Institutional Advancement.

Keynote speaker, astronaut Col. Eileen M. Collins, graduated from
Corning Community College and became the first woman to pilot
and command an American spacecraft.
Col. Collins greets the Dollars for Scholars guests.
I would love to be able to devote more time to my studies, but at
the same time I find I need to work additional shifts to pay for the
costs associated with living and pursing my nursing education.
This is the reason why a scholarship is so important to me.

spokesperson at the dinner, enjoyed discussing
