OHM creates... futures.
What can you major in at OHM?
Who we are
OHM stands for Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied
Sciences Nuremberg, a German higher education institution with
an almost 200-year history in the center of Europe, which is located near downtown Nuremberg and easily accessible by public
transportation. Our campus borders on Wöhrder Wiese, one of
Nuremberg’s large city parks. Student housing facilities are just
around the corner – and the city of Nuremberg also offers great
cultural entertainment as well as popular pubs and clubs.
„A Selected Place in the Country of Ideas”
This is the name of the award our Polymer Optical Fiber Application Center (POF-AC) received in November 2008, and our
Department of Electrical Engineering, Precision Engineering and
Information Technology in 2009. The awards demonstrate yet
again that OHM creates futures and develops forward-looking
ideas.
Leading Position in Continuing Education
Learning with a Practical Focus
OHM is one of Germany’s largest universities of applied sciences
and renowned for the practical focus in its degree programs.
Twelve departments offer both undergraduate and graduate
degree programs as well as continuing education and cooperative
education programs.
OHM is Germany’s top 3 University of Applied Sciences among
Germany’s higher education institutions. This was confirmed by
the national competition for the best business models in continuing education organized by the Stifterverband in 2004.
With more than 40 degree programs in twelve departments, you
are sure to find just the right major for you:

Intensive Research
OHM is the most research-active of all Bavarian universities of applied sciences and leading in third-party funds. Hence we are an
important motor of innovation in the Nuremberg metropolitan area
and entertain excellent contacts with industry and commerce.
8 Continuing Education Programs and 10 Continuing
Education Certificate Courses
OHM also offers 8 continuing education programs as well as 10
continuing education certificate courses, ranging from an MBA
to “City – Region – Society,” our interdisciplinary master’s degree
program in integrated urban development.
I.C.S. Scholarships
The International Co-operative Studies (ICS) sponsorship model
promotes degree programs with a strong practical focus, support
from companies and great opportunities for launching your career.
Highly attractive partner companies provide scholarships in nearly
all majors for selected students at the end of their sophomore
year. As an I.C.S. grantee you gain valuable practical experience
with your future employer while pursuing your degree and become
familiar with potential fields in the business.
Global Partnerships
16 Master’s degree programs
OHM is also a global player, having established more than 130
partnerships with other institutions of higher education around the
globe. This facilitates international exchange and has also benefited our roughly 1,100 foreign students from 96 countries.
OHM’s International Office offers foreign students comprehensive
services: information about organizing their stay, orientation days
and numerous cultural and integrative activities. Our Language
Center offers courses for incoming and outgoing students in many
languages and intercultural competences.
Higher Education Excellence
OHM occupies one of the top positions among competing institutions of higher education. You can truly benefit from our excellent
programs.
Famous Namesake
The university’s roots go back to 1823 when the Städtisches
Polytechnikum (municipal polytechnic), our oldest predecessor,
was founded.
Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences was named
after the world-famous physicist Georg Simon Ohm, who was a
professor of physics and mathematics and rector of the university
from 1833 to 1849.
