Electro-Mechanical Distributor Bulletin Vol. 6 August 26, 2008 56- Electric Latch Retraction Retrofit Kits Product Bulletin Product Bulletin Converts Existing Rails to ELR; Replaces ED Series Assembly Kits The new 56- Electric Latch Retraction Retrofit Kits offer the flexibility of converting existing rails (80 Series and P Series) to a 56- Electric Latch Retraction rail. Using either the R56 (push rail and motor assembly) or M56 kit, rails manufactured after 1995 can be upgraded. R56 retrofit kits replace the ED56 assembly kits currently available. In order to upgrade a rail manufactured after 1995, the R56 retrofit kit is required. If the rail to be upgraded was manufactured after January 2007, the M56 (motor only) retrofit kit is used. To ensure you have selected the proper kit, review the photos and descriptions in the following charts. The R56 kit includes push rail/motor assembly, motor controller and fasteners. The M56 kit includes the motor assembly, motor controller and fasteners. Please use the chart below for ordering information on the R56 retrofit kits. 56- Retrofit Kits with Push Rail/Motor Assembly The 56- Push Retrofit Kits can only be added to 80 Series* Exit Devices manufactured after 1995 56- Push Retrofit Type of device Kit Number to be upgraded R56A x Rail Size & Finish 80 Series Exit Device* R56B x Rail Size & Finish 53- 80 Series Exit Device* Upgradeable Design Mounting Rail Pivots Units manufactured after 1995 with mtg rail pivots eliminated Rail Sizes Devices with mounting rail pivot pins can not be upgraded 56- Push Retrofit Kits Description Retrofits standard mechanical rail. Contains ribbon wiring. Retrofits 53- rail Exit Devices. Does not include 53- signal switch. Contains wiring to connect to the pre-existing 53- chassis signal switch. Rail size is determined by pivot to pivot dimensions 8-1/2" = "E" Rail 11-1/4" = "F" Rail 14" = "J" Rail NOTES for R56 Kits: 1. R56A and R56B kits can be used with the 855 Request-to-Exit (REX) kit or 816 Cylinder Dogging kits 20-1/2" = "G" Rail 2. When adding a R56 kit to a 55- rail, the 55- switch is eliminated. For 55-56- rail assemblies, use either a 55-R56 kit or a R56 kit with an 855 kit. 3. M56 and R56 kits require a minimum insert length of 5" for 56- and 7" for 16-56- to accommodate the electronics. 4. A 12-wire ElectroLynx Harness (52-3449) is required to power the ELR and built-in timer when used with a QC12 Hinge and without an ElectroLynx door (harness is supplied with ElectroLynx doors). 5. An 8-wire ElectroLynx Harness (52-3448) is required to power the ELR when used with a QC8 Hinge and without an ElectroLynx Door. *Except FM8700 Series Exit Devices and Exit Devices produced prior to 1995.
