Cleaning colored mortar requires special attention. Muriatic acid should not be used to clean walls built with mortar containing Lafarge cement. The masonry cleaning recommendations of the manufacturer of the masonry unit should be followed. >Light Colors Light color cements for masonry should be mixed with sand that is lighter in color than the cement for masonry. Light color cements for masonry mixed with a dark sand will produce a mortar that is darker than the cement.
