Dear Friends and Fellow Parishioners,
It is with great joy and excitement that I am able to
tell you that this fall I intend to join the Oblates of St.
Francis de Sales, a religious order of priests and
brothers that has a presence in the Diocese of Toledo,
most specifically at St. Francis de Sales High School.
Starting in August I will be what is called a
“postulant” for one year, and as such I will continue
to discern, live the life of an Oblate and do some kind
of work that an Oblate would normally do, such as
teach. Following that year, I will hopefully begin the
process of taking vows as a member of their order,
attend school at the Catholic University of America in
Washington, DC and, if God wills it, eventually be ordained a priest.
While I am very excited about this, it also brings me some sorrow because this
means that I will be leaving St. Rose and will no longer be the Pastoral Associate
for Youth and Young Adult Ministry here. These last four and a half years have
been an incredible journey and I consider all of my time here at St. Rose to have
been a great blessing. I have met so many incredible young people and, by
extension, incredible families while working here. I have also been extremely
blessed by the generosity of the parishioners of St. Rose with many gifts and,
most memorably for me, a great deal of help in paying for my pilgrimage to the
Holy Land in 2011, which was quite influential in helping me make this decision.
SCHOOL
My last day here will be July 15, 2013. Following that I am still uncertain what
the future holds as far as where I will be placed or what I will be doing. It is all
part of preparation for the vow of obedience, I guess. However, I can tell you that
St. Rose will be hiring someone new to take over the youth and young adult
ministry programs and those ministries will go on.

Again, I want to thank everyone for all of their support over the years. In my
mind, the youth ministry programs here at St. Rose have been an incredible
success. Most of that, of course, is owed to the grace of God. But all of you,
through your financial and prayerful support, have also been an important part of
that. I also want to thank the faculty and staff of St. Rose Parish and School, as
they have been wonderful to work with and extremely supportive over the years.

Please keep the St. Rose Youth and Young Adult Ministries in your prayers as we
move forward with hiring someone new. And if you wouldn’t mind, please keep
me in your prayers as I move forward with this endeavor. I will surely keep St.
Rose in mine. May God continue to bless the parishioners of St. Rose, the young,
the old and everyone in between!
In Christ,
Craig Irwin

heart of a lovely provincial French town. The cast is composed
of thirty-eight 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
Beauty and the Beast JR will be performed on Friday, April 26
at 7:00 PM, Saturday, April 27 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, April
28 at 2:00 PM in the school gym.
Tickets are now on sale. Adult tickets are $10.00. Student
tickets (Grade 8 and under) and Senior tickets (age 60 and
over) are $8.00. Call 419-874-5631 or visit the school office to

2013 Annual Catholic Appeal Update
St. Rose Goal for 2013:
Pledges/Gifts to date:
% of Goal:
Number of Gifts:
Average Gift:
$62,000.00
$67,079.59
108.2%
362
$185.30
Once again, St. Rose does its part. Thank You to those who have made a pledge/gift.
Though we have gone over our goal due to the generosity of so many of you, we are still
below the number of gifts from the previous year. The Annual Catholic Appeal
continues, and if you have not made a gift you can still do so. Remember, now that we
have gone over our goal, St. Rose receives back 75% of what is received in excess of our
parish goal. Your gift not only helps the diocesan ministries, but also St. Rose. Simply
drop your envelope in the offertory basket, or mail it to the diocese. Be sure to indicate
that you belong to St. Rose. Please note that all pledges must be paid by December
31, 2013 in order to qualify for the 75% rebate to St. Rose.

THERE ARE A FEW SPOTS STILL AVAILABLE FOR
THE PILGRIMAGE TO FRANCE 2013
Msgr. Borger will be leading a pilgrimage to France this fall. We will depart September
23 and return October 4, 2013. The trip includes such sights as Paris (Notre Dame, Sacre
Coeur, Sante Chapelle), the great gothic cathedral at Chartres, Normandy Beach, Rouen
(St. Joan of Arc), Lisieux (St. Thérèse),
Mont-St-Michel, Tours (St. Martin), Orleans (St.
Joan of Arc), and the Loire Valley (famous for its
chateaus and its wine). It will be a beautiful time
of the year. There will be Mass daily. Our past
pilgrimages to Italy (2009) and the Holy Land/
Rome (2011) were very enjoyable and spiritually
rewarding. Going on a pilgrimage is a great way
to be nourished in the faith, to see beautiful and
holy sights, and to meet fellow parishioners.
They are also fun. The cost is $ 3,899, double occupancy, which includes a direct flight
from Detroit to Paris, hotels, breakfast & dinner daily plus a wine tasting in the Loire
Valley. If you are interested in receiving a detailed brochure and registration form, please
contact Margie McDaniel: mlm4nd@sbcglobal.net or 419-290-8782.

ST. ROSE PEACE AND JUSTICE ~ A TALK FOR THE TIMES
St. Rose Peace and Justice will host speaker Ann Huss, the suicide Prevention consultant, with the Wood County
Children’s Resource Center on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 pm in the St. Rose School cafeteria (Sacred Heart Center).
In view of several tragedies that have occurred recently, the talk “Saving Lives: Understanding Depression and Suicide
in Teens” is a relevant subject that fits with our times. Major depressive disorder is one of the most prevalent psychiatric
conditions among adolescents. It affects about 5.9% of females and 4.6 % of males in this age group.
Parents, grandparents of adolescents are encouraged to attend this informative lecture and learn what you need to look
for and what you can do to save the life of an affected young person.
Ann Huss has thirty-two years experience as an educator and school counselor. She has been the suicide prevention
consultant at the Resource Center for the past six years and has given numerous programs on depression and suicide. The
presentation along with a question and answer session will last 90 minutes and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will
be served.
ROSARY PRAYED FOR THE SICK ~ Please note that on the third Thursday of every month, we
pray the Rosary for the Sick of our parish. We begin at 6:45 PM in the church, in front of the Blessed

and Caregivers held in the St. Rose School Gymnasium on Thursday,
April 4. This event was presented by St. Clare Commons, a new full
service Catholic senior community being built right here in Perrysburg,
St. Rose Parish and the St. Rose Fab 50+ Club. There were 30+ Senior
Health Organizations who participated in this event and many were on
hand to answer questions and provide informational materials for those
interested in their services.
Third Sunday of Easter
April 14, 2013
This summer the St. Rose Youth Group will be traveling, along with the youth
groups from Blessed John XXIII and St. Michael’s (Findlay) to Springfield, MO
for the Steubenville Mid-America Youth Conference from July 11-15. This
incredible experience, often called “life-changing” by many who have
participated, is one centered around our Lord in the Eucharist and on building
lives based on Christ and the teachings of His Church.
With a final cost of $320/student we are in great need of
financial assistance. We are hoping to raise around $4,500 in
an attempt to lower the cost to $150/student so that no
student that registered will be unable to attend. Your gifts of
any size, large or small, would go far in helping these young
people to have the spiritual experience of a lifetime! Think of
it as an investment in the future of our Church, one student at a time.
If you think you may be able to help in our fundraising efforts or would like to volunteer as a “Prayer Warrior”
for the weekend please feel free to contact Craig Irwin in the parish office at 419-874-4559 or
cirwin@stroseparish.com.
