Starting in August I will be what is called a “postulant” for one year, and as such I will continue to discern, live the life of an Oblate and do some kind of work that an Oblate would normally do, such as teach. Following that year, I will hopefully begin the process of taking vows as a member of their order, attend school at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and, if God wills it, eventually be ordained a priest. While I am very excited about this, it also brings me some sorrow because this means that I will be leaving St. Rose and will no longer be the Pastoral Associate for Youth and Young Adult Ministry here. These last four and a half years have been an incredible journey and I consider all of my time here at St. Rose to have been a great blessing. I have met so many incredible young people and, by extension, incredible families while working here. I have also been extremely blessed by the generosity of the parishioners of St. Rose with many gifts and, most memorably for me, a great deal of help in paying for my pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2011, which was quite influential in helping me make this decision. SCHOOL My last day here will be July 15, 2013. Following that I am still uncertain what the future holds as far as where I will be placed or what I will be doing. It is all part of preparation for the vow of obedience, I guess. However, I can tell you that St. Rose will be hiring someone new to take over the youth and young adult ministry programs and those ministries will go on. Mrs. Barbara Jenks, Principal, 419-874-5631 jenks@saintroseonline.org Mrs. Shelley Brossia, Assistant Principal, 419-874-5631 brossia@saintroseonline.org Mrs. Patty Russo Catechetical Coordinator 419-874-9474 prusso@stroseparish.com Again, I want to thank everyone for all of their support over the years. In my mind, the youth ministry programs here at St. Rose have been an incredible success. Most of that, of course, is owed to the grace of God. But all of you, through your financial and prayerful support, have also been an important part of that. I also want to thank the faculty and staff of St. Rose Parish and School, as they have been wonderful to work with and extremely supportive over the years. ROSE PEACE AND JUSTICE ~ A TALK FOR THE TIMES St. Rose Peace and Justice will host speaker Ann Huss, the suicide Prevention consultant, with the Wood County Children’s Resource Center on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 pm in the St. Rose School cafeteria (Sacred Heart Center). In view of several tragedies that have occurred recently, the talk “Saving Lives: Understanding Depression and Suicide in Teens” is a relevant subject that fits with our times. Major depressive disorder is one of the most prevalent psychiatric conditions among adolescents. It affects about 5.9% of females and 4.6 % of males in this age group. Parents, grandparents of adolescents are encouraged to attend this informative lecture and learn what you need to look for and what you can do to save the life of an affected young person. Ann Huss has thirty-two years experience as an educator and school counselor. She has been the suicide prevention consultant at the Resource Center for the past six years and has given numerous programs on depression and suicide. The presentation along with a question and answer session will last 90 minutes and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. This event was presented by St. Clare Commons, a new full service Catholic senior community being built right here in Perrysburg, St. Rose Parish and the St. Rose Fab 50+ Club. There were 30+ Senior Health Organizations who participated in this event and many were on hand to answer questions and provide informational materials for those interested in their services. Third Sunday of Easter April 14, 2013 This summer the St. Rose Youth Group will be traveling, along with the youth groups from Blessed John XXIII and St. Michael’s (Findlay) to Springfield, MO for the Steubenville Mid-America Youth Conference from July 11-15. This incredible experience, often called “life-changing” by many who have participated, is one centered around our Lord in the Eucharist and on building lives based on Christ and the teachings of His Church. With a final cost of $320/student we are in great need of financial assistance. We are hoping to raise around $4,500 in an attempt to lower the cost to $150/student so that no student that registered will be unable to attend. Your gifts of any size, large or small, would go far in helping these young people to have the spiritual experience of a lifetime! Think of it as an investment in the future of our Church, one student at a time. If you think you may be able to help in our fundraising efforts or would like to volunteer as a “Prayer Warrior” for the weekend please feel free to contact Craig Irwin in the parish office at 419-874-4559 or cirwin@stroseparish.com.
