Lamb of God Lutheran Church Lake Stevens’ Newsletter
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16
Hello Lamb of God!
This month, I had planned to give an update on just where we are with respect to the
facility committee. In planning this, to be honest, I had expected to be in a different
place than we actually are.
Along with the letter I sent to all of you, we also asked the other members of the school
association if they would be willing to sell part of the school property to Lamb of God so
that we could build a worship facility on it. Many of you attended the voter’s meeting
where we voted in favor of selling to ourselves, which was kind of weird, but still necessary and positive too.

While we were doing that, Messiah in Marysville approved our request, as did Peace in
Monroe. Zion, however, following quite a bit of debate told us that they did not have a
majority to approve or deny our request. We have since re-engaged, sending several or
our facility committee members to discuss their concerns and there is now a sense that
a majority is in favor, though we have nothing official.
Pastor Kyle Heck invited me to address the 5th member of the association: Immanuel in
Everett. Randy Strege and I spoke with them for nearly an hour a few weeks ago. I left
with the impression that we had answered their questions, addressed their concerns
and honestly described that we were too early in the process to have all the answers
they might like at this point, but that for us to move ahead and get those answers, we
would need their approval. I was rather surprised later that week to open a letter from
them stating that they had voted no. I have since had a conversation with someone
who was present after I left, yet still don’t really understand what went on in my absence.
The facility committee is scheduled to meet in about a week. We will now need to discuss whether to try to move ahead and ask for Lamb of God approval to seek and hire a
feasibility study, or whether we need more support from the association before investing our money. Rest assured, we will diligently discuss our options before making a
decision. But in the meantime, I’ve noticed something and maybe you have too.
I have prayed for God’s guidance in this matter. You have too. We have prayed together that as we move, as we struggle with decisions and direction, that God would guide
us, opening doors and closing them as He sees fit. Imagine my surprise when things
didn’t happen exactly the way I planned. Anyone can say they are trusting God in this
matter or that. It’s a little different when you actually have to do it.
Being open to His guidance means paying attention to what He’s trying to tell you rather
than pushing what you think is best. That’s what I’m looking forward to discussing with
the rest of the committee. The good news, of course is that we serve a God who is
wise, and good, who loves us and wants the very best for us. There is literally no one
anywhere I would rather trust. More to come…
God is good…all the time.
Blessings, Pastor Mike

July 8, 2016
“God bless our native land...” I trust you had opportunity to sing this hymn or at least pray the intent of the hymn as we recognized
Independence Day on Monday.
The mission team from Lamb of God LCMS in Lake Stevens, Washington, with a Jeremy from Faith LCMS in LaGrande, Oregon,
returned home safely. There was no report of any illness; thanks to Cliney and the older girls for healthy food preparation. Rev. Paul
reported, “They did wonderful work! We were so glad to have them with us. Jan Novak (Worship Leader for Lamb of God) has not
been here since 2007. He was happy to see a lot of changes at MADO” (La Maison des Agneaux de Dieu Orphelinat--The House of
the Lambs of God Orphanage). The whole ministry is so pleased to have so many people walking along with us in this ministry. The
harvest fields are continuing to ripen, and we are honored to serve with you in caring for these dear souls with temporal needs, but
most importantly, with the Word of God.
Jeremy shared a couple videos on his phone, (hasn’t this changed from our first mission trip in 2003 where disposable cameras
were used and there was very rare cell phone reception in Haiti!). One video documented a good rainstorm, one of several, that they
have appreciated over the last month and a half. This rainstorm, however, was unique because of the marble-sized hail. This made
the children wrap up in blankets. The rains have allowed MADO to be working in their gardens. Corn, beans, and okra are now being harvested. Another video was of a Taekwondo competition in Ouanaminthe which Cliney (Rev. Paul’s wife) organized. They had
sponsors and charged entry fees, and it appeared to be an exciting time. Nine teams from northern Haiti attended the competition. MADO’s children competed well. This activity allows for some effective lessons for the children in diligence, good sportsmanship, physical health, and spiritual maturity. “For physical training is on some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding
promise for this life and the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:8).
July 26, 2016
Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
“I am sorry for not being available last week. We had fifty-four people to transport and feed for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of
Haiti (ELCH-a church body with altar and pulpit fellowship with the LCMS). Last week was our national convention, it was in Ouanaminthe,” reported Rev. Paul. I had called a couple times last week and left him messages. Rev. Paul was pleased with the convention. Rev. Eliona Bernard of Cap Haitian was elected as the new President for the ELCH. He replaced Rev. Marky Kessa (from Jacmal) who has been serving since at least 2008. Rev. Eliona Bernard, Rev. Marky Kessa, Rev. Paul Toulotte (Les Cayes) and Rev.
Daniel Paul were all classmates of mine at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne from 1998-2001. I am not sure how Rev.
Paul was selected to host the convention in Ouanaminthe; however, he and his ministry did an admirable job. They incurred some
expenses, since the ELCH was not able to fund all the expenses.
NEHLM’s liaison, Ben Wiseman, is in contact with Rev. Paul and has travel plans being finalized to begin serving in Haiti in September. Rev. Paul and NEHLM are excited about having a person living on site to facilitate some administrative details, train children
with communications, and be a liaison to maintain healthy relationships. NEHLM is helping him raise funds for his expenses of about
$7000.00 for the year (room and board, and at least two trips). If you would like to help fund this position, please respond to this
email or contact us through the NEHLM website (http://www.nehlm.org/sponsorshipgiving).
Clynie, Rev. Paul’s wife, will be going to Santiago, DR, on Wednesday to buy material to sew school clothes for the upcoming
school year. She is able to get better deals and better quality supplies as she shops around. The ministry has also been busy with
harvesting. “We harvested some corn, along with other produce from the gardens by the boys’ orphanage,” said Rev. Paul. He continued, “We have had normal temperatures and some good rains. The gardens have done well the last two months.”
God’s peace,
Rev. Sam Wiseman
