User Manual Supplement. September 2015 This document appears to be an addition to the Adaptto Official User Manual and DOES NOT change/eliminate any of the Manual’s information. PLEASE NOTE: before starting the wiring, setting and using the Adaptto Controller you need to carefully read with the Adaptto Official User Manual and with this Supplement. The Official Manual can be downloaded here http://adaptto.com/Support/. 1. The latest wiring scheme.1 2. Until February 2015 the KTY83 sensors were installed into the controllers. After that the decision was made to switch to KTY84 sensors. Once upgrading the firmware up to RC-9G4 version (or later) controller will automatically switch the setting of thermo sensor type to KTY84. In order to check whether you have set the correct type of temp sensor you need to enter Health Monitor (by pressing LEFT from the main screen) and take a look at MOSFET Temp indication. If the value is significantly higher or lower (e.g. negative number) than the real one – you need to enter Calibration Menu and find IntTempSens parameter which should be changed to KTY84 OR to KTY83 if the previous one is already set there. In other words you need to switch to the alternative temp sensor type than that you see. After completing the outlined actions please check the MOSFET Temp indication again. IMPORTANT! If you still see incorrect indication of MOSFET Temp even after changing of temp sensor type – please contact Adaptto E-Drive Lab technical support in order to obtain instructions on how to send the controller for repair. The usage of controller with broken temp sensor is dangerous and strictly prohibited. 3. Adaptto Controllers 2WD mode. 1 The whole interactive version of scheme can be found here: http://adaptto.com/Support/ 3.1 Adaptto controllers can be used together in all-wheel drive mode. It is possible to use either same two controllers (Max-E + Max-E) or two different controllers (Mini-E + Max-E). The main controller is called Master and dependable is Slave. Firmware version on both controllers must be the same. 3.2 Connection of the controllers should be done in accordance with the wiring scheme which can be found here: http://adaptto.com/Support/ 3.3 For 2WD mode both controllers are adjusted separately (i.e. they should not be connected between each other) in accordance with the following algorithm: 3.4 Reset all the settings on BOTH controllers (controller setup -> advanced settings -> system reset) SLAVE controller: Connect to the motor (which it will operate further while working in 2WD), display and power Run AutoDetect and conduct full controller setting in compliance with the Official Manual Switch OFF cruise control (controller setup -> traction settings -> Thr Cruise OFF) Assign the number to the Slave (controller setup -> traction settings -> Slave No = 0000) Disconnect the power (only power, not the motor) MASTER controller: Connect to another motor (which it's going to operate), power, AND SLAVE CABLE, replace the display from SLAVE to MASTER (PLEASE NOTE Run Autodetect Switch on 2WD mode (controller setup -> traction settings -> 2WD enable) Switch ON the slave controller (connect it to the power) While twisting the throttle both motors should spin (if not - there could be a mistake in settings or previous steps) 4. Charging the battery via controller by using charging coil In order to avoid problems which could be caused by inappropriate usage of device while charging, it’s necessary to follow the algorithm. Connect the charging coil to power supply (PSU). Do NOT switch on the PSU Connect the charging coil to the controller in accordance with the wiring scheme Enter charge settings in accordance with the manual sections 1.1.3 and 3.3.6. Switch the PSU on Once the charging is finished – switch off the PSU Disconnect the charging coil from the PSU Disconnect the charging coil and controller Leave the charging mode (press LEFT-DOWN) IMPORTANT: it’s strictly prohibited to exploit the controller with the charging coil connected 5. BMS Setting The wiring scheme of BMS can be found here: http://adaptto.com/Support/ BMS settings can be found in Battery Setup – BMS Setup section 1) BMS enable – to switch on the BMS you should set YES, to switch off – set NO. 2) Channel A Config – determines active/operational cells of BMS. For correct operation it is necessary to enter a REAL number of utilized channels on each of the balancing boards. Numeration of balancing boards is started from the connection wire side. Example 1: 23S battery will have value 4 for the first 5 balancing boards and value 3 for the last balancing board. (i.e. 20+3=23) Example 2: 17S battery will have value 4 for the first 3 balancing boards, value 3 for the fourth board and value 2 for the fifth board (i.e. 12+3+2=17). Connection scheme like 16+1 is WRONG. Important: on each of the balancing boards AT LEAST two channels should be utilized. 3) Channel B – extra channel serving for connection of auxiliary balancing boards. It is required only in cases of extension battery assembly where the number of boards is higher than 16. 4) Cell V Config – contains preset parameters for the most popular types of Lithium batteries (LiPo, LiFePo4, Li-Ion). It is only needed to choose the chemistry type which you are using. If among the preset options there is no chemistry of your choice (e.g. Li4Ti5O12) it is necessary to choose CUSTOM option and enter appropriate values for your battery. Important: incorrect choice of chemistry type OR incorrect values entered for CUSTOM option can lead to significant deterioration of your battery cells and even fire. It is highly recommended to do the settings in accordance with datasheet of the battery. 5) Cell board Config – this tool enables number assignment to the balancing board. It is needed in cases when one of the balancing boards was broken and needs replacement. It is also useful for the extension of battery assembly. Before leaving the production line the balancing boards are numbered from the wire side accordingly 1-2-3-4-5-6-7. To switch off the broken balancing board it is needed to unplug the balancing wires from it and exclude it from configuration in Channel A Config section. Important: to assign the number to the balancing boards the Voltage should be connected ONLY to this boards (i.e. other boards should be disconnected). The numbers of balancing boards should NOT repeat (i.e. there should be no two balancing boards with the same number).
