Instructions
Introduction
Use this document to install the Application and Data Server (ADS)
software, the extended Application and Data Server (ADX) software
and the System Configuration Tool (SCT) software.
To perform the ADS/ADX and SCT Software Installation, you need
the following:
•
Windows® Operating System Media CD
•
ADS/ADX Installation CD
and/or
•
SCT Installation CD

Installation Sequence Overview
Below is the Installation Sequence Overview for the ADS/ADX
software and the SCT software. Each of the numbered steps are
described in greater detail later in this document.
Installation Sequence Overview for the ADS/ADX Software
1. Verify and set Computer Configuration Settings.
2. Install Internet Information Services (IIS) software from
Microsoft® Windows Add/Remove Programs.
3. Install Microsoft .NET Framework from the installation CD.
4. Install Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE)
from the installation CD or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with
Service Pack 3 Standard or Enterprise edition.
5. Install the Java® Runtime (JRE) software from the installation CD.
6. Install the ADS/ADX software from the installation CD.
Installation Sequence Overview for the SCT Software
1. Verify and set Computer Configuration Settings.
2. Install IIS software from Microsoft Windows Add/Remove
Programs.
3. Install Microsoft .NET Framework from the Installation CD.
4. Install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) with
Service Pack 3 from the installation CD.
5. Install the Java Runtime (JRE) software from the installation CD.
6. Install the SCT software from the installation CD.

Installation CD Contents
ADS Software Installation CD
The ADS Installation CD contains two folders, ADS and OEM. The
ADS folder contains the installation files for the ADS software.
The OEM folder contains two folders: Microsoft and Sun. The
Microsoft folder contains the following installation files:
•
dotNet framework
•
MSDE2000_SP3
•
Remote Desktop
•
SQLSERVER2000_SP3
•
WIN2000_SP3
•
WINXP_SP1
The Sun folder contains the installation files for the JRE plug-in.
SCT Software Installation CD
The SCT Installation CD contains two folders: SCT and OEM. The
SCT folder contains the installation files for the SCT software.
The OEM folder contains two folders: Microsoft and Sun. The
Microsoft folder contains the following installation files:

Installation Prerequisites Overview
Before installing the ADS/ADX or SCT software, verify that the
Operating System Software in Table 1, the Software Components in
Table 2, and the Database Options in Table 3 are installed on the
computer. This list should be shared with your Information
Technology (IT) Department.

Prerequisite Details
Notes: You must have Administrative privileges on your Windows
operating system in order to install the Application and Data Server
(ADS) Software along with the System Configuration tool (SCT)
Software.
The ADS and SCT Software works with Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Desktop Engine (MSDE) Software. The Application and Data Server
(ADX) Software works with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Software.
You must have your computer configured to show hidden files and
folders. You must have file and print sharing installed from Microsoft.
Computer Configuration Settings
Hidden Files and Folders
To set up the hidden files and folders parameter:
1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel.
2. Select Folder Options. The Folder Options dialog box appears
(Figure 1).

3. Select the View tab.
4. Select Show hidden files and folders.
5. Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
6. Click OK.
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
To set up file and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks:
1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel.
2. Select Network and Dial-Up Connections.
3. Right-click on the connection type this computer is using to
communicate with the Metasys® devices.
4. Select Properties. The Local Area Connection Properties dialog
box appears (Figure 2).

5. Verify File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is selected.
If not selected or does not appear, proceed to Step 7.
6. Click OK. The Local Area Connection Properties dialog box
closes.

Notes:
If this is a local area connection, go to the General tab.
If this is a dial-up, VPN, or incoming connection, go to the
Networking tab.
7. Click Install. The Select Network Component Type dialog box
appears.
8. Select Service.
9. Click Add. The Select Network Service dialog box appears.
10. Select File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks.
11. Click OK.
12. Check File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks.
Windows 2000 Server Specific
13. Do one of the following if you are using a Windows 2000 Server:
a. To optimize the server for a small number of clients, click
Minimize memory used.
b. To optimize the server for a mixed usage of file and printer
sharing in addition to other services, such as serving as an
interactive workstation, click Balance.
c. To dedicate as many resources as possible to file and print
server services, click Maximize data throughout for file
sharing.
d. To optimize server memory for distributed applications that
perform their own memory caching, such as Microsoft SQL
Server, click Maximize data throughout for network
applications.
Note:
You can only configure the Properties for the File and
Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on a server.
To share local folders, you must enable File and Printer Sharing for
Microsoft Networks. For more information on File and Printer
Sharing, refer to the Microsoft Web site, www.microsoft.com

Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
The ADS software and the SCT software requires Microsoft Windows
2000 Professional with SP3 and IIS Version 5.0.
Verifying Your Computer Has SP3 Installed
To verify your computer has SP3 installed:
1. Right-click on My Computer.
2. Select Properties. On the General tab, the System heading lists the
operating system and service pack details. If you do not have SP3
installed, follow the instructions under Installing SP3 for Microsoft
Windows 2000 Professional.
Installing SP3 for Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
To install SP3 for Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional:
1. Insert the ADS/ADX or SCT Installation CD.
2. Open the OEM folder.
3. Open the Microsoft folder.
4. Select WIN2000_SP3 folder.
5. Double-click W2ksp3.
6. Follow the setup instructions.
Note:
On the Select Option dialog box, we recommend you change
the default setting to Archive Files before you click Next.
You must install SP3 on your computer before installing .NET
Framework and IIS. If .NET Framework and IIS are already installed,
you must reinstall them after installing SP3.

Verifying Your Computer Has IIS Version 5.0 Installed
To verify your computer has IIS Version 5.0 installed:
1. From the Control Panel, select Administrative Tools.
2. Double-click Internet Services Manager. The Internet Services
Manager Dialog box opens.
Note:
If Internet Services Manager does not appear, you never had
IIS installed on your computer. Refer to the Installing IIS Version 5.0
for Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional section.
3. From the Tree tab, right-click on the Internet Information Services.
4. From the menu options, select Help.
5. Select the link http://localhost/IISHelp/. A dialog box opens.
Note:
The above link should be located on the right side of the
Help screen.
6. Verify the dialog box has IIS 5.0 Documentation as the title.
7. Close all windows.
Installing IIS Version 5.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional
Note:
You need your Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional CD to
install the IIS software.
To install IIS Version 5.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional:
1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel.
2. Select Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select Add/Remove Windows Components. A Windows
Components Wizard dialog box appears.
4. Select Internet Information Services (IIS).
5. Click Next. IIS installs on your computer.
6. Click Finish.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
The ADS software and the SCT software require Microsoft Windows
XP Professional with SP1 and IIS Version 5.1.
Verifying Your Computer Has SP1 Installed
To verify your computer has SP1 installed:
1. Right-click on My Computer.
2. Select Properties. On the General tab, the System heading lists the
operating system and service pack details. If you do not have SP1
installed, follow the instructions under Installing SP1 for Microsoft
Windows XP Professional.
Installing SP1 for Microsoft Windows XP Professional
To install SP1 for Microsoft Windows XP Professional:
1. Insert the ADS/ADX or SCT Installation CD.
2. Select the OEM folder.
3. Select the Microsoft folder.
4. Select WINXP_SP1.
5. Double-click: Xpspla_en_x86
6. Follow the setup instructions.
Note:
You must install SP3 on your computer before installing
.NET Framework and IIS. If .NET Framework and IIS are already
installed, you must reinstall them after installing SP3.

install the IIS software.
To install IIS Version 5.1 for Microsoft Windows XP Professional:
1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel.
2. Select Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select Add/Remove Windows Components. A Windows
Components Wizard dialog box appears.
4. Select Internet Information Services (IIS).
5. Click Next. IIS installs on your computer.
6. Click Finish.

Microsoft .NET Framework
The ADS/ADX software and the SCT software requires Microsoft
.NET Framework Version 1.0 with SP2.
Note:
You must install IIS before you install .NET Framework. For
information on IIS, find your operating system platform heading
within this document and follow the appropriate procedure (for
example, Microsoft Windows XP Professional > Installing IIS Version
5.1 for Microsoft Windows XP Professional).
Verifying Your Computer Has .NET Framework Version 1.0
with SP2 Installed
To verify your computer has .NET Framework Version 1.0 with SP2
installed:
1. Use Windows Explorer to search for this file:
ASPNET_ISAPI.DLL
Note:
If the ASPNET_ISAPI.DLL file does not exist, refer to the
Installing .NET Framework Version 1.0 section.
2. Right-click on the ASPNET_ISAPI.DLL file. A pop-up menu
appears.
3. Select Properties.
4. Select the Version tab. The File Version should have 1.0.3705.288
(This indicates Version 1.0 with SP2 is installed).
Note:
If the File Version has 1.0.3705, then .NET Framework
Version 1.0 is installed without the Service Pack. Refer to the
Installing SP2 for .NET Framework section for more information.
5. Close all windows.
Installing .NET Framework Version 1.0
Note:
If you have another version of .NET Framework, such as
Version 1.1, you still need to install Version 1.0 with SP2.
To install .NET Framework Version 1.0:
1. Insert ADS/ADX or SCT installation CD.
2. Select the OEM folder.
3. Select the Microsoft folder.
4. Select the dotnetframework folder.
5. Double-click the dotnetredist file. The dotnetfx.exe license
agreement appears.
6. Click Yes. A dotnetfx.exe dialog box appears.
7. Select Browse.

8. Browse to a folder as in the Figure 3 example.
9. Click OK. The dotnetfx files extracts to your selected folder.
10. Go to the folder you selected.
11. Double-click: dotnetfx
12. Follow the installation instructions.
Note:
You may want to delete the dotnetfx.exe file after installing
since the file size is 21 megabytes (MB).
Installing SP2 for .NET Framework
To install SP2 for .NET Framework:
1. Insert the ADS/ADX or SCT installation CD.
2. Select the OEM folder.
3. Select the Microsoft folder.
4. Select the dotNet framework folder.
5. Double-click on dotNETFramework SP2 Setup.
6. Follow the installation instructions.
7. Go back to Verifying Your Computer has .NET Framework
Version 1.0 with SP2 Installed and follow the instructions.

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE)
The ADS and SCT software requires Microsoft SQL 2000 Desktop
Engine (MSDE) with SP3.
Verifying Your Computer Has MSDE with SP3 Installed
To verify your computer has MSDE with SP3 installed:
1. Use Windows Explorer to search your c: drive for this file:
sqlservr.exe
2. Right-click on the sqlservr.exe file. A popup menu appears.
3. Select Properties. A dialog box appears.
4. Select the Version tab.
5. Verify the number is 2000.80.760.0 or higher.
6. Close all windows.
Installing MSDE
To install MDSE:
1. Insert the ADS/ADX or SCT installation CD.
2. From the Start menu, select Run. The Run dialog box appears.
3. Select Browse.
4. Browse to the ADS/ADX or SCT installation CD drive.
5. Select the OEM folder.
6. Select the Microsoft folder.
7. Select MDSE2000_SP3.
8. Select SETUP.EXE. The Run dialog box reappears.
9. After the text string enter a space.
10. Type:SAPWD=sa (Figure 4).
11. Click OK. MSDE with SP3 installs on your computer.

Microsoft SQL Server 2000
The ADX software requires Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard or
Enterprise Edition with SP3 and mixed mode security.
Setting Up Mixed Mode Security
To set up mixed mode security:
1. From the SQL Server 2000 installation CD, select Mixed Mode
(Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication). See
Figure 1.

2. Enter the password given to you from your IT department or
generate your own password.
3. Confirm your password.
4. Finish the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Installation process.
Verifying or Updating Mixed Mode Security
To verify or update mixed mode security:
1. Expand the tree until you see the local server (Figure 6).
Note:
The default name of the local server is local. Otherwise, the
default name is the same as the hostname of the machine and is located
under the default server group called, SQL Server Group. If there
appears to be no local server, refer to the Microsoft SQL Server 2000
documentation for information on how to register your local server.

2. Right-click on the local server. A right-click menu appears.
3. Choose Properties. The SQL Server Properties (Configure) –(local)
dialog box appears (Figure 7).
4. Select the Security tab.
5. Select SQL Server and Windows.

6. Click OK.

Java Runtime (JRE)
The ADS/ADX software along with the SCT software requires
JRE 1.3.1
Verifying Your Computer Has the Java Runtime Plug-in
Installed
To verify your computer has the Java Runtime plug-in installed:
1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel.
2. Verify the Java Plug-in 1.3.1 icon appears.
Note:
If the Java Plug-in icon does not appear, go to the Installing
the Java Plug-In section.
Verifying the Java Settings
To verify the Java settings:
1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel > Java
Plug-in 1.3.1.
2. On Basic tab (Figure 8) verify that Enable Java Plug-in and
Recycle Classloader are checked.

3. Select the Advanced tab. Verify that Use Java Plug-in Default
appears in the Java Runtime Environment drop-down box and that
Enable Just In Time Compiler is checked.

4. Close all windows.
Installing the Java Plug-In
To install the Java Plug-in:
1. Insert the ADS/ADX or SCT installation CD.
2. Open the OEM folder.
3. Open the Sun folder.
4. Open the jre1.3.1 folder.
5. Double-click on j2re-1_3_1-win.
6. Follow the setup instructions.

Installing the ADS/ADX Software
To install the ADS/ADX software:
Notes: The ADS or ADX software requires at least 600 MB of
available hard disk space.
Do not install Web-hosted applications on the same computer as the
ADS software.
1. Insert the ADS/ADX Installation CD.
2. Select the ADS folder.
3. Select setup.exe. The Welcome dialog box appears.
4. Click Next. The Metasys ADS Database Location and Time Server
Setup dialog box appears (Figure 10).

5. Select Browse to use file destinations other than the default. Verify
that there is enough disk storage space on the selected repository
drives. We recommend you use the above default locations. For
more information on the Repositories, refer to the Configuring the
Application and Data Server Technical Bulletin (LIT-1201645).

Note:
If you choose to set the ADS/ADX as the Time Server, you
have the option of setting the other devices on the Site to synchronize
their times with the default Time Server ADS/ADX device. If you do
not set the ADS/ADX as the Time Server, then you do not have the
option of setting the other devices on the Site to synchronize their time
with that ADS/ADX device. In order to receive this option again, you
must reinstall the ADS/ADX software.
If you have multiple ADS/ADX devices on the Site, we recommend
that you synchronize all devices on the Site to one of the ADS/ADX
devices. Refer to the Time Management section in the online help for
more information on setting up devices to synchronize their times with
an ADS/ADX device.
6. Click Next. The Metasys ADS Johnson Controls Wizard Dialog
Box appears (Figure 11).

7. Select Install. The ADS installs on your computer.
8. Reboot your computer.
The ADS/ADX software installation is complete. For information on
ADS configuration, refer to the Configuring the Application and Data
Server Technical Bulletin (LIT-1201645).

Note:
The name of the Metasys ADS/ADX object is the same as
the computer host name. To change the name of the ADS/ADX, you
must change the name of the computer.
To Launch the ADS/ADX Software
Go to Start > Programs > Johnson Controls > Metasys ADS/ADX.
Metasys System User Name and Password
Use the following default user name and password to access the
Metasys system:
log on: MetasysSysAgent
password: XMG3-Rel.1
Notes:
The password is case sensitive.
Your Metasys system extended architecture passwords do not have to
match the passwords of your operating system.

Installing the SCT Software
To install the SCT software:

The SCT Software requires 125 MB of available hard disk
Do not include Simulation during the SCT install if you plan to
install the ADS software. The ADS software requires you to
remove Simulation by uninstalling and reinstalling the SCT
software.
Be sure you have your SQL Server running before you attempt to
install the SCT software.
Verifying You Have SQL Server Running
To verify you have SQL Server Running:
Point to the computer with the green arrow in your system tray. The
tooltip indicates if SQL Server is running.
Note:
The green arrow indicates SQL Server is running. The red
square indicates SQL Server is not running.
To install the SCT:
1. Insert the SCT Installation CD.
2. Select SCT\setup.exe. The Welcome dialog box appears.
3. Click Next. The License Agreement dialog box appears
(Figure 12).

4. After reading, select I accept the terms of the license agreement.
5. Click Next. The Customer Information dialog box appears
(Figure 13).

6. Fill in the User Name and Organization.
7. Click Next. The Metasys SCT-InstallShield Wizard Custom Setup
dialog box appears (Figure 14).

8. Click on the pull-down menu for the features you would like to
install. A pull-down menu appears (Figure 15).

Both installation options install the same programs.
CTOOLS installs HVAC Pro, GX-9100, DX Commissioning, and
XTM Configurator Software Version 8.05. This install overrides all
other installed versions of these software programs.
When you choose to install N2 Tools (CTOOLS), a separate
installation process begins. Exit the N2 Tools installation window and
continue with the SCT software installation.
9. Click Next. The Metasys SCT-InstallShield Wizard Ready to
Install the Program dialog box appears (Figure 16).

10. Click Install. The SCT installs on your computer.
11. The Metasys SCT-InstallShield Wizard–Install Wizard Completed
dialog box appears. Click Finish.

12. Click Yes to reboot your computer.

To Launch the SCT Software
Go to Start > Programs > Johnson Controls > Metasys SCT.
Metasys System User Name and Password
Use the following default user name and password to access the
Metasys system:
log on: MetasysSysAgent
password: XMG3-Rel.1
Note: The password is case sensitive.
Your Metasys system extended architecture passwords do not have to
match the passwords of your operating system.

To eliminate this error, follow these steps:
1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
2. Select Tools > Internet Options.
3. Select the Connections tab.
4. Select LAN Settings.
5. In the Proxy Server section, uncheck the bottom two
check boxes.
6. Click OK until you return to Internet Explorer.
7. Close Internet Explorer.
8. Start Internet Explorer again.
InstallShield Issue- HTTP 404 File not
found Internet Information Services
Error Message:
Page cannot be found
To eliminate this error, follow these steps:
1. Shut down all programs.
2. Uninstall the SCT software from Start > Settings > Control
Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
3. Go to Start > Run. The Run dialog box appears.
4. Type: %TEMP%
Note: The path indicates where your temp files are located.
5. Change the directory to c:\document and settings\<your
computer profile name folder>\local settings\Temp.
6. Delete all files in this directory.
7. Reboot the computer.
8. Reinstall the SCT software.
If the error still occurs, verify you have .NET Framework with
SP2 installed. Refer to the Verifying Your Computer Has .NET
Framework Version 1.0 with SP2 Installed section.
