Košice IT Valley z.p.o. Letná 9 Košice 040 01 BY INVOLVING A RECORD NUMBER OF COMPANIES "LIVE IT PROJECTS" LINKED PRACTICE AND EDUCATION AND CREATED A UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL PROJECT IN SLOVAKIA. Kosice, 20th January 2016 – Teaching at the university is getting a new dimension. 14 sponsors of business, 116 students in 29 teams and 29 real IT solutions for practice and SCRUM method in education. By the unique linking of practice and education the project with no precedent in Slovakia has been created in Kosice IT Valley cluster. By solving interesting problems from practice project creates conditions for cooperation of students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of TU Kosice directly with prospective employers in business. Students have opportunities to experience project execution in all phases of the project as well as the opportunity to understand the importance of created solutions with the commercial potential. On the other hand there is a transfer of experience from practice to the university and promoting active cooperation between universities and practice on project basis, leading to mutual motivation leading to improved learning outcomes. Cluster, which today represents over 8,500 employees in ICT, actively uses the benefits of linking academia, public and private sector. "This project represents how education should look like in 21st century. IT in Kosice is at world level today and it is time to get this level also into education. And that is what we want. Letná 9 Košice 040 01 About Live IT Projects Team Project "Live IT projects" is a one-semester subject of winter semester which is part of an accreditation of innovated study programme Informatics. It was taught in the school year 2015/2016 for the first time. This is a cross-cutting subject and a key objective is to acquire experience and skills in project management, participate in real projects and their integration with expertise in software engineering that students have acquired in other subjects. Four-member teams work on real assignments in partnership with two mentors - one of the Department of Computers and Informatics (Product Owner for Education) and the second from a particular company (Product Owner). Project management uses SCRUM framework, commonly used in practice. Final evaluation of the subject is realised by means of competition. Kosice IT Valley z.p.o. Kosice IT Valley Association was established in March 2007 as a joint initiative of educational institutions, government and leading IT companies. In 2012 it was transformed into the cluster. It currently has 53 members and 3 sympathizers. The main objective of Kosice IT Valley cluster is to create conditions for the development of the ICT industry, thereby helping to improve the quality of life in Eastern Slovakia. Department of Computer and Information Sciences, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Technical University of Kosice Department of Computers and Informatics (KPI) provides training in informatics and information technology since 1989. KPI guarantees and fully provides education in the curriculum of Informatics at all three levels, namely at bachelor, master and doctoral level study. The object of education is a broad spectrum of fundamental knowledge and technological skills mainly of the following core areas: computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, information systems, computer networks.
