THE COLLEGE OF THE BAHAMAS Course Outline Title: DC Circuits Abbreviation and Number: ELME100 AB Paper No.: 16-25 School: Mathematics, Physics and Technology Department: Technology Credits: 3 Course Sequence: ( ) Fall ( ) Spring ( X ) Fall and Spring ( 3 ) Lecture ( ) Seminar ( ) Laboratory ( ) Studio ( ) Kitchen Hours Per Week: 3 ( ) Other Pre-requisite(s): BGCSE Physics grade “C” or above or equivalent Co-requisite(s): ELME101 COURSE DESCRIPTION Students explore fundamentals in direct current circuit analysis. Topics include network theorems, combination of circuit elements, first-order transient response and simple magnetic circuits. They utilise computer software such as PSpice or equivalent. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to 1) solve problems associated with resistive electrical circuits; 2) examine circuits involving capacitors, inductors and resistors in series, parallel and series-parallel combinations; 3) describe the transient response of first-order Resistor-Capacitor (RC) and Resistor-Inductor (RL) circuits; 4) analyse simple magnetic circuits; and 5) apply computer software such as PSpice to simulate circuits.
