Whydoapplicantshavetotakeanassessment?
The City and County of Denver hires based on a merit system which means we evaluate applicants based on their skills, knowledge, and experience. For some positions this evaluation takes the form of an assessment that applicants take to demonstrate their skills. HowdoIknowifIneedtotakeanassessment?
After applying to a position, if you meet the minimum qualifications and the position requires an assessment, you will receive an email inviting you to schedule your assessment. This generally occurs 1‐3 days after the job posting closes. Be sure to check your junk or SPAM email folder so you don’t miss the email. HowdoIschedulemyselffortheassessment?
The invitation to the assessment will provide you with step by step instructions. You can also go to denvergov.org/jobs, also known as governmentjobs.com, and log into your applicant profile. If you have been invited to take an assessment you will see the name of the assessment and a “schedule appointment” link that will provide you with the available dates and times. Select the day and time for your assessment. Be sure to keep this invitation email as there will be no further confirmation email sent with testing details. If you are having problems applying please notify us at jobs@denvergov.org right away so we can help you schedule your assessment. Registration for each assessment closes one day prior to the test, so be sure to scheduled yourself as soon as you receive your email invitation. WhatifIcannotattendthedays/timestheassessmentisoffered?
Due to the large number of positions we hire for we can only offer a set number of assessment times. Assessments will be schedule 3‐7 days from the date your invitation is emailed. If you cannot attend any of the assessment dates/times we will not be able to add additional days. Assessments must be completed in Denver in our facility. At this time we do not offer online testing. If you cannot attend the assessment sessions but are still interested in the position we recommend you sign up for the job interest alerts on the denvergov.org/jobs website so you can re‐apply next time the position opens. WhatifIhavealreadytakentheassessmentbeforeandpassed?
If you have already passed the necessary assessment for the position you will receive an email stating that your score has been transferred and no further action is needed at this time. Be sure to check your junk or SPAM folder so you don’t miss the email. All prior passing scores are transferred at the time the assessments are scheduled. CritiCall scores are valid for 1 year from the date of your last test. Performance exam scores are valid for 6 months from the date of your last test. All other scores are valid and transferrable for as long as the test is being used by the City. Howlongwilltheassessmenttake?
The length of the assessment varies from 1 to 4 hours, depending on the assessment. The email invitation will tell you the time allotted for your scheduled assessment. Isthereastudyguide?
There are not study guides available for our assessments, as many of them evaluate basic competencies. WhatifIneedanaccommodation?
If you require an accommodation for testing under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) please email Lance.Dorris@denvergov.org as soon as possible after receiving the assessment invitation email. There are several pay parking lots near the Webb building. We do not recommend you use the metered street parking as the meter may run out while you are still taking your assessment. Applicants will not be allowed to leave during the assessment to pay the meter. WhatifIamlatetomyscheduledassessmenttime?
Out of respect to other applicants we cannot allow latecomers into the assessment once it has begun. We strongly recommend arriving 15 minutes early for your assessment. Plan for possible traffic, parking, and going through the building security check. If you are late to an assessment you are welcome to stay for the next session on “Stand By.” This means that you will be allowed to test if there are spaces available in that session. If there are additional assessment times still available you can reschedule your assessment for a later time or day. This can be done by logging back into your applicant profile at denvergov.org.
