MassBay Community College Position Description Position Title: Project Coordinator, FIPSE Grant Department: Academic Affairs Reports to: Provost & Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs Date: February 2011 Position Summary: MassBay Community College seeks a dynamic individual to fulfill a Project Coordinator role to manage the logistics and implementation of a three-year United States Department of Education (US DoE) Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) program in Massachusetts and Haiti. This position is based at MassBay Community College and UMass Boston. The project coordinator’s primary role will be to establish and provide effective project management and coordination, as well as ensure compliance with FIPSE and US DoE policies. Leadership responsibilities include serving as a key point of contact in the coordination and implementation of the FIPSE initiative in Massachusetts, as well as serving as a point of contact and liaison with our FIPSE partners in Haiti and the US. Additional responsibilities include convening relevant meetings, participation in data collection, program assessment, and development of program reports. The project coordinator must have the ability to work with diverse constituencies across the College, University, and Haitian campuses to achieve grant objectives, as well multilingual fluency in English, Creole and French. The successful candidate shares our commitment to, and has diverse experience in Early Childhood Education. Key Responsibilities and Duties: • • • • • • • • Provide overall leadership and coordination all aspects of the FIPSE Project. Communicate an informed understanding of the objectives of the FIPSE project to all project constituencies in the US and in Haiti, and externally to the FIPSE Program Officer. Conduct periodic meetings and serve on various department, college, and university committees. Assist with development and design of Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum for an ECE certificate program developed and culturally tailored with teachers in Haiti. Assist in recruitment and provide orientation for student participation in the FIPSE initiative. Advise and supervise student involvement, service-learning, field settings, and capstone projects related to the FIPSE project. Assist with development and oversight of international travel preparations. Develop, monitor, and maintain documentation on FIPSE activities and progress for periodic reports. • Work with faculty, staff, and students in Haiti and the U.S. to identify best practices relative to the FIPSE program. Minimum Qualifications: • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, early childhood education, international education or social sciences disciplines and two years of teaching experience, preferred. • Multilingual fluency in English, Creole, and French. • One to three years experience as a coordinator in a public or private educational institution. . • Experience with under-represented, diverse student, first generation, at-risk students, learning disabled and under-prepared students. • Ability to work with faculty from various disciplines, and to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse/ global community settings. • Flexibility to work independently and as a member of a team to efficiently to meet deadlines. • Knowledge of academic environments, particularly in higher education, and principles of academic advising. • Ability to make administrative/ procedural judgments and recommendations. • Outstanding interpersonal relational skills and, excellent written and oral communications skills. Education: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, early childhood education, international education or social sciences disciplines.
