THE NEWSLETTER OF THE CLUB AT REYNOLDS PLANTATION INSIDE: Enhancing the Lifestyle with the Linger Longer Living Series 2015 Youth Summer Camps Independence Day Weekend Celebrations JUNE/JULY 2015 PRESIDENT’S DESK There’s something special about summertime at the lake that rekindles the nostalgia of our youth and prompts us to reconnect to life’s simple pleasures. Whether it’s sharing a refreshing drink on the veranda of the Plantation clubhouse, rocketing down the slide at The Landing pool, or gathering with family and neighbors to celebrate Independence Day at Great Waters, few things in life can excite the soul like summer at Reynolds Plantation. This year, in addition to a summer calendar chock-full of activities, special events, tournaments and camps, there are new things to see and do around every corner. The first phase of the National Village recently opened, and if you haven’t visited the new golf house or had lunch in the market snack bar, you’ll want to stop by soon (and have a panini sandwich…they are delicious). Over on Mill Creek, the new Model Home Center is welcoming hundreds of visitors every week, and has already inspired several to explore building a new home themselves. At The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, members are enjoying new upgrades to the Spa, which include a men’s classic barber shave room, expanded women’s lounge and enlarged manicure and pedicure area. With so many enticing options, the biggest challenge is sometimes just choosing what to do. It’s times like this when I’m reminded that most of our family’s best memories and most colorful stories from our many summers at Reynolds Plantation revolve less around a specific place or event, and more around the people. Lisa Thomaier sums it up in this issue’s Member Testimonial (page 26): “the people here are above and beyond special, like no other place…Reynolds Plantation is Heaven on Earth to us.” I couldn’t say it any better. Beyond the golf, lake, amenities, and programming, what truly separates Reynolds Plantation from every other community is the exceptional group of members, employees and local citizens who call this place home. The distinct character created by our people was one contributing factor in Reynolds Plantation being selected as a location for PGA Professional Jimmy Hanlin to tape upcoming episodes of his popular shows “18 Holes” and “Swing Clinic,” which is expected to air in July on Fox Sports in more than 70 million homes. As you and your family get out and enjoy the best that the season has to offer, I encourage you to take time, slow down and truly appreciate the people in our community. It’s the family, friends and acquaintances who we spend time with today that will play the biggest parts in our most cherished summertime memories of tomorrow. REAL ESTATE NEWS Summer is here, and at Reynolds Plantation Properties, the mercury is rising. We welcome the return of long summer days and frankly, with so much activity this year, we’re going to need every last minute of extra daylight! Following a solid 2014, I am tremendously excited and encouraged by the level of sales activity in the first half of 2015. Sales of homes and homesites in Reynolds Plantation are growing – and more importantly, sustaining – at a level not seen in some time. Below are a few key indicators I’d like to share… The number of inquiries from potential buyers in 2015 continues to pace 32% above projections, and the number of real estate tours given by our agents is up 29% year-over-year. Our presence on the internet continues to grow exponentially, with 32% more visits to ReynoldsPlantation.com this year than last, and 34% more followers on our social media channels, like Facebook and Twitter. Turning to building activity, there are currently 70 homes under construction in the community, with 21 beginning in the first quarter alone. Submissions to the Architectural Review Board (ARB) for new home construction was up a healthy 83% year-over-year in the first months of 2015. We were delighted to greet more than 400 members at the grand opening of the new Signature Home Model Center on Mill Creek, and have welcomed hundreds more since. Combined with our exclusive Design Studio, these two masterfully-built show homes are inspiring an entirely new era of Signature Home construction, and I invite you to stop by Monday – Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, Noon – 5:00 pm. At The Landing, construction on the final phase of cottages behind the clubhouse is progressing on schedule, while the first phase of the extremely-popular new villas continues to wind its way up Club Point Circle. Last but certainly not least, the spring property release of 12 premium lakefront homesites at Horseshoe Bend (pictured left) has been an enormous success, with multiple homesites already on hold or under contract as of press time. Scores of customers have gotten their shoes dirty hiking the newly-graded roads to be among the first to preview this remarkable property. As a result, we’ve taken a little good-natured ribbing from the housekeeping team about all the red dirt being tracked into the Sales Center. But after 30+ years in the real estate business, nothing tells me more about the positive direction of the market than seeing our lobby floor dappled with dozens of muddy shoeprints. Enhancing the Lifestyle through Meaningful Experiences with t h e L inger Longer L i v ing Series Enhancing a moment can change an outcome of any given situation. Most strive to improve upon moments day after day; even the smallest improvements can make the biggest impact to the betterment of one’s own life and those around him. LINGER LONGER LIVING SERIES O ver nine years ago, Marie Garrison started a journey to do just that; she challenged herself to one very specific goal – to enrich the lifestyle of members and enhance their overall experience at Reynolds Plantation. Garrison wanted to bring a new form of programming – one focused mainly on the educational and cultural arts and that would allow members the unique opportunity to experience something both meaningful and memorable. She asked herself, “How can I build an ever-evolving series with its own true identity here at Reynolds Plantation and different from any other amenity offered?” Garrison decided to start with the audience themselves – the members. “Steve Dancz and Friends: The Music of Duke Ellington” Prelude Dinner and Concert held January 2015 at the Great Waters clubhouse. “In the beginning, I met with several members to really kick-start my research. I learned so much about their talents, skills and many interests; I just knew I wanted the program to be a reflection of our members.” Garrison then began building and establishing relationships with universities, artists, musicians and lecturers, and from these efforts, the Linger Longer Living series was born and quickly grew a life of its own; a life Garrison never knew was possible. “I want to create magical moments for our members; ones so magical they walk away with an even greater thirst for knowledge.” And many of the members agree, as the series has developed a very strong following. “A Moment in Time with Tim Adams” Prelude Dinner and Concert held June 2011 at the Rock House. “Canopy” Flying Aerial Dance Trapeze held November 2007 in Athens, GA. The Longhorns (pictured top left) came out on top after posting a team score of 24 under par. Texas pulled away from defending champion, Georgia, on Sunday - finishing five strokes ahead overall with a score of 840 on 54 holes. Georgia’s Lee McCoy (pictured bottom left) took home the individual honors with an impressive 14 under par for the tournament. McCoy started strong by shooting a 65 on his first 18 holes of play and followed with a 70 and 67 in rounds two and three. Texas sophomore, Beau Hossler, made things interesting after making two eagles on his first nine holes of play. Hossler went on to play a strong tournament as well; posting 67, 69 and 68 on his three rounds of play, but it wasn’t enough to catch McCoy in the end. But as bestselling author H. Jackson Brown, Jr. once wrote, “sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eyes.” Such was the case for Bob and Lisa Thomaier. “Sometimes in life you just know,” she recalls from her first visit to Reynolds Plantation in 2004. “The charm and appeal of everything about this place just spoke to me, and I knew right away that this was home.” Lisa was so captivated that she nearly purchased a homesite that very day, phoning her then-fiancé Bob back home in New Jersey, and telling him conclusively “this is the place.” As it turned out, Reynolds Plantation was not a tough sell for him either. A passionate golfer, Bob was already familiar with the community’s award-winning golf. “We were casually looking for a place to eventually retire. Myrtle Beach had too much traffic and too many crowds and we didn’t feel Arizona was a good fit, so when Lisa was in the area, I suggested that she swing by Reynolds Plantation. A friend of mine actually was a resident at the time, and had always raved about the place he called home.” The rest, as they say is history. When the time came for the couple to select their ideal location to wed, they easily agreed on The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, where they exchanged vows in April 2006. They also purchased their first Reynolds Plantation homesite during the same visit. “It was wonderful to start our new life together and our ‘Reynolds life’ at the same time,” says Lisa. Their real estate agent, Micki Tanner, was even on hand for the wedding. “Micki had become a dear friend by that point, so of course we wanted her at the ceremony to celebrate with us.” Though their professional lives kept them in New Jersey – Bob a financial advisor and Lisa a private banker – the newlyweds spent as much time in Georgia as possible in the years that followed, and wasted no time integrating into the community they would one day call home. Bob met dozens of members on the golf course, requesting to be paired with various groups as a single player, and playing in club tournaments. The couple also became regulars at the clubhouse restaurants, Gaby’s by the Lake, Linger Longer Steakhouse and the Lake Club. Lisa still marvels at how easy it was to make friends. “The people here are above and beyond special, like no other place. You meet one individual, they instantly welcome you, invite you over to dinner, and it just snowballs from there. Now we have more friends here than back home.” Two homesites and nine years later, today Bob and Lisa are putting the final touches on their newly-built home and preparing for their eventual full time move to Reynolds Plantation. Overseeing construction of a home from several states away may seem daunting at first, but is an everyday occurrence in a community that attracts half its new residents from outside of Georgia. “Everyone with Reynolds has been great, and Ryan and Bryan are like family to us now,” says Lisa, referring to their builders Ryan Miller and Bryan Combs. “We owe a great deal of thanks to Artisan Built and Binion & Grant for making our dream home a reality.” When Reynolds Plantation eventually becomes their primary home, Bob and Lisa are both looking forward to more time on the golf course. Pressed to pick a favorite, he loves them all, but particularly enjoys the National, while the Creek Club gets her vote. In addition, both enjoy the outdoors and recreational activities. Lisa is also planning to become involved in some of the community’s 30+ social clubs and organizations, and also foster her passion for animals through volunteering at the humane society. The humorist of the pair, Bob sums-up Reynolds Plantation in practical terms: “I tell people that compared to the Northeast, life is so easy here, you feel like you’re cheating! There are no potholes, no traffic, no snow piled-up, and you hardly have to leave the gates — it’s just perfect.” Amused by her witty soulmate, Lisa summarizes in more poignant terms: “Reynolds Plantation is Heaven on Earth to us – just a really, really special place.” To read about the Thomaiers and view the full gallery of images, please visit www.reynoldsliving.com. tear here Member Calendar | JUNE 2015 1 7 Farm to Table - CC Brunch – PL & TL Family Style - PL Wet & Wild Games – PL Commons Tennis Pro Exhibition - TC 8 Farm to Table - CC Soup, Salad & Carvery - TL Taste of Mexico - LC Farm to Table - CC Soup, Salad & Carvery - TL Taste of Mexico – LC Poolside Crafts – TL LLLS – Rock House 2 9 Taste of Italy & Pasta - TL Full Moon Cruise – PL & LC Marinas Taste of Italy & Pasta - TL LLLS – Design Center 3 4 Prime Rib - PL New Member Dinner Overlook at GW Cocktail Classes at LLS - Ritz 13Wine Pairing - CC 17 18 19 20 21 FATHER’S DAY 22Farm to Table - CC 23Taste of Italy & Pasta - TL 24Linger Longer Games – 25LLLS – Rock House Farm to Table - CC Brunch – PL & TL Family Style - PL Wet & Wild Games – PL Commons 28 Farm to Table - CC Brunch – PL & TL Family Style - PL Wet & Wild Games – PL Commons Tennis Club Championships - TC LLLS – Rock House Soup, Salad & Carvery - TL Taste of Mexico - LC 29 Farm to Table - CC Soup, Salad & Carvery - TL Taste of Mexico – LC LLLS – Sandy Creek Barn 30 Taste of Italy & Pasta - TL Match Play Begins Garb Rig - TL Morning Sports & Pool Games – TL & LC Bourbon & Food Tasting at Georgia’s - Ritz Wine Tasting on Spirit of Oconee – PL Marina 12 Learn & Dine - PL LLLS – Design Center LLLS – LC Cocktail Classes at LLS – Ritz Anglers Meeting – PL Gazebo 16 Taste of Italy & Pasta - TL Poolside Crafts - TL Anglers Tournament - LC 6 11 Linger Longer Games – PL Pool Gates LLLS – Design Center In the Cellar at LLS - Ritz 15 Culinary Creations - CC Farm to Table - CC Soup, Salad & Carvery - TL Taste of Mexico – LC Couples’ Twilight Plantation Pizzas - PL Patio Dancing – PL Lobster Feast - TL Friday Night Lights – PL Commons LATL Meeting - LC 10 14 Farm to Table - CC Brunch – PL & TL Family Style - PL 5 Boat Regatta – PL Pav In the Cellar at LLS - Ritz PL Pool Gates Poolside Crafts - TL LLLS – Rock House Cocktail Classes at LLS - Ritz Southern Picnic at Gaby’s - Ritz Cocktail Classes at LLS - Ritz Plantation Pizzas - PL Swim-In Movie – LL Park Pool Shooting & Dinner – Old Hudson Plantation Plantation Pizzas - PL Lobster Feast - TL Friday Night Lights – PL Commons Tailgate Tennis - TC 26Plantation Pizzas - PL Chop House - PL Sunset Paddle – LC Marina Morning Sports & Pool Games –TL & LC Bourbon & FoodTasting at Georgia’s - Ritz Paddle Board Demo – LC Morning Sports & Pool Games – TL & LC Bourbon & Food Tasting at Georgia’s - Ritz House - PL 27 Chop Sunset Paddle – LC Marina Morning Sports & Pool Games – TL & LC Bourbon & Food Tasting at Georgia’s - Ritz Tennis Club Championships - TC Swim-In Movie – LL Park Pool Tennis Club Championships - TC For a full calendar & details of all 2015 Summer Youth Camps, please visit www.reynoldsplantation.net.
