of Annual Report 2010 Voice Peace ...My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives...John 14:27 Annual Report 2010 | 1 When It All Started The vision was to use modern communication tools to bring the message of our Lord Jesus Christ to the people of Thailand. It all started with radio broadcasting then graduating to the use of audio cassette and now, television, video and internet. From its humble beginning with a mobile studio in a Volkswagon van, Voice of Peace has grown into a modern communication center with 5 audio studios, an excellent television studio, training facilities, and a variety of other ministries. Voice of Peace has been serving the churches in Thailand and abroad for more than 46 years and come 2015, we will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The vision remains the same. We want to see the people in Thailand and surrounding nations experience the joy and peace of Jesus. And, it is this message that is central to the Voice of Peace ministry through radio, television, print and internet. We hope to continue to be a modern and innovative Christian Multimedia Center that will be a blessing to Thailand and beyond. The First Building Vision Statement The First Recording Studio 2 | Annual Report 2010 Samai Panchaiyapoom, one of the first radio broadcasters Voice of Peace exists to serve all Christian communities through the use of multimedia and a variety of communication services. Annual Report 2010 | 3 “Thank you, Voice of Peace team for helping us find new ways to develop our villages. We hope you will keep on coming again until we can really help ourselves. Please get through this with us...” from a villager in Omkoi Three snapshots from training sessions at Karen Villages in Omkoi, Chiang Mai Solving Drug Problems in Hill Tribe Villages Through Mass Media In 2010, Voice of Peace joined the Royal Project of the Thai Government to solve drug problems in the tribal villages. While the government provides staff who are experts in specific areas, VOP uses a variety of media to help villagers understand their problems, and as a result, many villages have realized the dangers of using drugs. This is a 3 - year project, which is financially supported by the Thai government. It seeks to help people in villages find new ways to make a living instead of selling drugs. The project works closely with churches in the area, and there is extensive coordination with women’s groups, village leaders and youth groups. The project covers a total of 31 villages in the Omkoi district of Chiang Mai. As a result of the project, (1) village people understand the problems of cultivating and using opium, (2) Christians provide spiritual insights and help solve community and family problems, (3) a group of 15 volunteers are formed in each village to support and coordinate activities, and (4) new youth groups are formed in the area. 4 | Annual Report 2010 Training and Special Project led by Apirak, left to right: Sorakrai, Worawut, Santad, Apirak A Voice Across the Country Broadcasting Station Community Station The first thing that comes to mind when people in Thailand hear of “Voice of Peace” is radio. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 Annual Report 2010 | 15 “In 2003, I was arrested and sent to prison because I was involved with drugs. None of my family members visited me because they lived far away. I went through much suffering and sadness. Three years later, I met Somwang who came to visit the prisoners and share the Word of God. When I listened to him, I felt warm and was touched. The Word of God and the bible lessons gave me something to hold on to. I realized that God loves me so much that He sent His son to die for me at the cross to redeem me from my sins. So I decided to receive Jesus as my Savior. I gave Him my life and all my burden. Now I am very happy. I thank God who is full of love and mercy. I am also thankful for Voice of Peace bible correspondence lessons that helped me understand more about God.” Voice of Peace P.O.
