Students will need to pay for a translated copy of their birthcert before they go to France in order to
avail of the living allowances granted by the French government
Students have access to university halls of residence but because of the high demand, it is essential
that they contact CROUS before the March prior to the ESIGELEC entrance examinations if they want
to obtain accommodation. Around 100 university rooms are also managed by ESIGELEC, intended
primarily for students from other countries or the foreign French territories (information available
on request when applying; subject to available places).

The areas

Rive Droite :
This is the ideal place to live if you wish to have a very full student lifestyle. The area of old Rouen is
particularly pretty and very lively. Here are a few places that will appeal to everyone – the Place
Cauchoise, the Place du vieux marché, Rue de la République, and the Hôtel de Ville area. If you can,
try and find accommodation with allocated parking or close to a metro station because parking in
the centre of Rouen can be difficult.

Rive Gauche :
The areas of the Rive gauche (Petit-Quevilly, Grand-Quevilly, Sotteville-lès-Rouen, Saint-Etienne-duRouvray, Petit-Couronne, Grand-Couronne) are very close to ESIGELEC by car, metro or bus.

Technopôle du Madrillet :
This is where ESIGELEC are located, in Saint Etienne du Rouvray. Students wanting to do activities
outside of the school or in the centre of town will need to take note of the metro or bus timetable.

The main ferry lines linking the UK to Normandy leave from Newhaven and Portsmouth and go to
Caen, Le Havre or Dieppe. From the ports fast road links and coach lines to Rouen are easily
available. There are ferrys from Cork and Rosslare to Roscoff, and from Rosslare to Cherbourg.
By coach
You don’t need a car to come to Rouen as it is so easy to use the coach network.
Over 20 coach lines and up to 24 departures daily means that it is easy to get around the region by

The CREA has one of the most modern urban transport systems in France.
Choose from the métro tram system, the TEOR, bus or Taxi – it is easy to get around the city and

TEOR (East West Transports Rouen) has 3 lines crossing the Rouen conurbation from East to West.
Lines go from : Bihorel and les Hauts de Rouen in the North to Darnétal in the east via Rouen
Centre , From Canteleu to Darnetal, from Mont-Saint-Aignan via Rouen to Notre Dame de
Bondeville,

Rouen Seine valley has 2 métro lines crossing 5 of the city communes (Rouen, Petit-Quevilly, Grand
Quevilly, Sotteville-lès-Rouen and Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray). The lines divide into 2 branches on the
South bank one going to Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray / Technopôle and the other to Grand Quevilly /
Georges Braque. The lines come together at Saint-Sever and go onto the terminus Boulingrin in
Rouen.

The whole system was redesigned in 2007 to complement the major TEOR and metro links. The
system has 27 regular bus lines plus the 3 TEOR east west links, 18 community taxi lines and 24

Cy’clic is Rouen city latest addition to better Public Transport. You can hire a bicycle fro a day, a

How to open a bank account in France?
To open a bank account, you need to bring these documents to the banker:

A proof of identity (ID, passport)

A proof of residence
Checks
Checks in France are often used, especially to have a mobile phone or rent an apartment.
Your credit card (about 30€ per year) and your checkbook (free) will arrive one week after your
account opening.
Your code number will be sent in your accommodation address, so be careful about your
information.
Do not hesitate to give your mobile phone number to your bank in case they need some more
information. In case of loss or theft of the credit card or check book, you must immediately stop the
card or check book (“faire opposition”) by calling the phone number your bank gave you
Travelers Checks
Traveler’s checks are NOT easy to cash in France, because you must go to a bank and banking hours
are not very practical.
You can instead use an international credit card such as Visa or MasterCard. American Express is
recognized as well but is far less easily accepted.
As well, if your credit card has a pin code, almost all ATMs will allow you to withdraw Euros using
these credit cards. But be sure to check with your bank concerning the charges and exchange rate
applied when using the card in France in shops AND withdrawing money from ATMs.

month. (Need a bank account in France: go on the ). When you leave France, you call to stop
the subscription.

Normal subscription: if you know that you just call and send SMS/MMS in France, it’s the
best choice because it’s cheaper but if you call worldwide, the company is going to take
more money in your bank account than the subscription price. (need a bank account in
France)

Internationally orientated curriculum
Students do a compulsory internship abroad in
order to complete their degree and must reach
a minimal score of 750 in the TOEIC English
test. The curriculum includes 8 bilingual technical majors (English-French). The school faculty
includes native English-speaking teachers and
lecturers.
Industry links
These links form a crucial part of the curriculum :
each student dedicates 200 academic hours in
the second and third years of their engineering
cycle to projects recommended by companies,
giving them the opportunity to work in conditions
comparable to those of the industrial world. Each
project involves a group of 6 students.
Three work placements in France and abroad,
prepare engineering undergraduates for their
entry into professional life. Representatives of
the school’s industrial partners sit on panels
that assess results of students’ internships, on
the Development Committee and the Board of
Governors, teach and lecture, maintain links with
school’s graduates and pay compulsory statelevied apprenticeship charge.
ESIGELEC leads also development contracts,
technological consultancy, in-service training.
Internships are done by students (from 4 weeks
minimum to 9 months).
There are work placements at three levels, as an
unskilled worker, a technician and an engineer.
There is also the opportunity for the students to
do an Intercalary course (sandwich year) : possibility of working a full year between the 2nd and
3rd of the engineering course.
Research
The Institute for research and development in
Electronic and Embedded Systems or IRSEEM
meets research requirements of automotive, aeronautical, electronics and telecommunications
industries.

ESIGELEC is located near ROUEN, at one hour away from
Paris, easily accessible by rail and highway. Capital of
Normandy and fifth largest port in France, Rouen is a hub
of commerce. It is a city of half a million people. Located
60 kilometers from the English Channel, Rouen played an

ESIGELEC has just moved in 2004 onto a dedicated Science
Park which already houses several other higher education
institutions (INSA, the University science departments),
companies, research centers, as well as large-scale facilities for aeronautics and automotive research. The new site
provides 12,000 sq.m of modern architecture for teaching
and research activities, including 3 amphitheatres of 120
to 250 seats, 1 amphitheaters of 420 seats, and lecture
rooms, research facilities, laboratories, self-service computer equipment, a multimedia language room, and permanent wifi access to Internet...

Interview
I am, Deepak DANG, indian student in the international
field (Engineering Program) in ESIGELEC. The reasons
which led me to choose ESIGELEC to continue my studies are numerous and important : first of all, the education is dynamic and opened to the international; dynamic
because this school encourages and helps its students to
form by the way of several trainings (Format in a company of variable duration between 1 month and 9 months,
dependent on the year of studies); and opened to the international because its students are supposed to have an
experience at least abroad.
Besides, ESIGELEC knows the importance of English in
the world of the work and it is for it that its students are
also supposed to obtain the TOEIC (Test of International
English for Communication) to have their degree. All this
is strengthened by the possibility of following a bilingual
forming English - French in the specialization.
Then, ESIGELEC introduces its students in the world of the
work due to the project engineer: a technological project
of a high level given by a company and made by 6 students during the 2nd and 3rd year. This project is accompanied with some « mini - projects » made during the 2nd
year, in computer, electronic etc. Moreover many people
from industrial partners of the school come to teach in
some courses and bring their experience and knowledge
to the students…
Finally, it is necessary as well to say as there is not only
work in the life and effectively one can find in ESIGELEC
of activities extra school as associations : desk of sports,
International Relations, Official reception, etc. which help
to enrich our social life.
