The convergence issues arising out of many factors will end up affecting the productivity. The effect is much more pronounced when attempting to solve new domain or physics for the first time or when the problem is being attempted by relatively new user. By following established best practices and guidelines we can improve the productivity quite significantly. This session is aimed at equipping yourself with such best practices for various applications ranging from Multiphase flows, Compressible Flows to Post Processing using ANSYS CFD simulations tools. The outline for the Best Practices session is as below. Each of these sessions will be presented by experienced ANSYS employees with more than five years of experience in respective physics and domain. • Multiphase Flows Selection of Right Multiphase model Choosing correct options for Multiphase models Avoiding convergence Issues in VOF, DPM and Eulerian Models • Compressible Flows Initialization Techniques Solver Settings Convergence Acceleration settings • Reacting Flow Selection of Right Combustion model Best Practices for improved accuracy Increasing the Simulation Efficiency • IC Engine and Aero-acoustics Using Workbench for optimal IC Engine simulation setup Best practices for accuracy, design comparisons and aero-acoustics post processing • Post Processing Improving Post processing techniques Customization approaches for faster post-processing • HPC Guidance on selecting HPC options How to use HPC for improved productivity Best Practices for hardware selection • Turbo Concepts on new features like Blade Flutter, Transient Blade Row modeling, Force Harmonics How to set Turbo machinery problems more efficiently Session Owner (Pune) Samit Saha Regional Technical Manager ANSYS India Samit Saha is associated with ANSYS for more than 11 years and is currently working as Regional Technical Manager for West India. LECTURE - 2 Productivity Improvement in CFD Pre-processing This program will focus on improving the productivity of CFD preprocessing through new and advanced features of ANSYS R15 products. ANSYS believes that capturing the geometry well in a preprocessing tool and creating a good quality mesh is a prerequisite for any accurate CFD analysis. ANSYS has and would always continue to focus in this area of product development. R15 has been a great step forward in this respect and this workshop will focus on live demonstration of preprocessing concepts that can help create an efficient modeling approach and meshing strategies. In addition, focus will be on showcasing strategies, tips and tricks of handling complex geometries that improves the users’ efficiency and speed through several examples. TOPICS HIGHLIGHTS • Demonstration of different Design Modeler features for handling dirty and Complex Model • Creating effective and optimum mesh in complex geometries using multiple strategies with special emphasize on hex/hybrid meshing • Taking advantage of ANSYS workbench platform for parametric geometry and meshing, exploring how parametric CAD geometry can be handled efficiently in ANSYS Workbench platform and thereby reducing the overall preprocessing time • Utilizing Design Modeler and ANSYS Meshing Customization to improve productivity, especially for repeat task EXHAUST MANIFOLD CYLINDER HEAD INDUCTION MOTORS • Latest developments in ANSYS Fluent Meshing (ANSYS TGrid) and how to take benefit of it that is integrated within ANSYS Fluent Solver. Utilization of parallel meshing capability for creating large meshes • Demonstration of ANSYS Fluent Meshing workflow from CAD files to volume mesh generation • Live demonstration will be carried out on industrial examples, like induction motors, exhaust pipe, engine, turbine blade, cylinder head etc. ENGINE ASSEMBLY TURBINE BLADE Method of Teaching • Live demonstration • Lecture on key topics CYLINDER HEAD MESH • Hands – on- Session for the participants • Discussion Speaker Profiles Vivek Patil Technology Specialist ANSYS India Vivek Patil has been working with all major customers across India to implement the best practices for preprocessing.
