MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN
OF GRADUATES STUDIES
EDHEC Business School, founded in 1906, is among the leading business schools in Europe. It is widely
recognised for its academic excellence, for the international impact of its research and for its unique
synergies with the global business world. All of the School’s academic programmes draw heavily on these
three strengths.
The EDHEC Master in Management (MIM), the School’s flagship programme, is a two-year, full-time
programme awarding a double degree —the Master in Management and the Master of Science.
The programme, taught entirely in English, is specifically designed to prepare students for international
careers in management. One programme option, the MIM European Apprenticeship Track,
provides an opportunity to study while gaining valuable professional experience.
Internationalisation is as much an EHDEC hallmark as is academic excellence. EDHEC has thus entered
into 118 partnerships, 19 of which are double-degree agreements, with leading universities and
business schools in 31 countries. These partnerships enable our students to gain additional international
experience by going on exchange or attending double-degree programmes at such renowned institutions
as the London School of Economics, Nagoya University of Commerce & Business, IE Business
School, Jiao Tong University and many others.
As part of its efforts to be relevant to business —the School's strategic outlook is encapsulated by the motto
“EDHEC for Business”— EDHEC has also forged close ties with leading companies in France and abroad.
Carrefour and Unilever, for instance, are the Corporate Programme Sponsors for the MSc in Marketing
Management, and Capgemini Consulting for the MSc in Strategy & Organisation Consultancy.
Such sponsors play active roles in classroom instruction, and their commitment ensures that the curriculum
is always relevant to business. In a business world undergoing constant change, posing different challenges
by the day, such assurances can only improve the professional preparation afforded students. In other
words, EDHEC Business School offers its students an unrivalled opportunity to acquire the knowledge
and experience to become leaders in their fields.
In addition to being a touchstone for academic excellence, EDHEC aims to connect students and alumni
with recruiters by creating synergies through a wide range of services provided by the EDHEC Career
Centre; these synergies make the School a genuine recruitment partner.

The foundation year of the Master in Management, representing 60 ECTS, equips students
with the technical competencies required for their gap-year internship and for year 2.
The structure of the programme is based on three components: remedial courses
(if necessary), core courses and electives. Upon completion, students will have acquired
global competencies in all areas of business management.

gap Year
The gap year offers students an outstanding opportunity to acquire their first
professional work experience and to leverage their international profile through internships.
Students will also sharpen their focus on their career objectives.
The work experience is a crucial step towards employment, as many students
have found their current positions as a result of their gap-year internships.
This mandatory gap-year is also an opportunity for students to reflect
on their choice of specialisation in year 2.
On completion of the gap year, students return for their final year of studies
and choose from one of the six Masters of Science offered by EDHEC.
Students may also take part in exchange programme or pursue a double degree
from one of EDHEC’s outstanding partner universities to specialise or to gain
additional international experience. Please see the "Study Abroad" section.
I didn’t realise the importance of the gap year until I had these two internship experiences.
I spent the first six months in Montreal as a marketing assistant in a start-up and
the second one at Christian Dior in Taiwan. These two experiences in different industries
enabled me to choose the career I wanted to embark on. They are the reasons why I chose
to specialise in marketing in the final year of my studies.

EDHEC had the ideal combination of a compelling curriculum,

in cooperation with such companies as Orange, Intel or Unilever
were especially inspiring and rewarding.

With some experience in start-up firms, and a growing
passion for business creation over the years, I chose the MSc in
Entrepreneurship. Coming to EDHEC, one of the best business
schools in France, was the best thing I could do. From general
management to specific entrepreneurial problem solving,
the programme has been a stepping stone for my career.
The immersion study tour of Silicon Valley opened my mind
to new ideas and taught me to accept the inevitable failures
that come with the life of an entrepreneur. Through that trip,
I really found my entrepreneurial spirit!.

Gabriel Puche López (Spain)—EDHEC 2013

I chose the apprenticeship track first and foremost to obtain financial independence. Now a year into
the course, I realise that I have gained much more: maturity, real responsibility, international travel,
a manager and a tutor who care about my development and a fascinating insight into the French
business world that would have been difficult to achieve without the EDHEC logo on my CV,
to name just a few! I would encourage any student interested in this track, and willing to embrace
a change in lifestyle, to go for it. You won’t look back.

your international exposure
The choice of an internship is crucial in planning a professional
career path. The Career Centre continues during the gap
year to support you in your job search and career planning.
The Career Centre also helps you assess your recent
work experience and managerial competencies.
The numerous workshops organised by the Career Centre
gave me a clear vision of what was expected during
the recruiting process. More than just providing an insight,
the Career Centre helped me practise and develop competitive
skills in preparation for D-Day, while also helping me
to distinguish myself from other candidates.
Year 2

When taking the critical decision about which graduate school to go to, the most important criteria for me
were the quality of the School, the faculty, the student community and the chances to find a professional and
personal path that fitted my goals. The recognition of EDHEC as a top business school by the international
press, the innovative curriculum and the culture of the school did the rest.
