MRI SHIELDING
Shielding Solutions
Radio Frequency (RF) and magnetic interference
from nearby office systems, electrical equipment,
or even passing traffic, can degrade MRI image
quality. ETS-Lindgren’s experts can select and
install the right RF shield for each situation,
protecting your investment and letting you see
results clearly.
Most MRI rooms only need RF shielding, but
some may require magnetic shielding as well.
ETS-Lindgren can perform an on-site survey to
determine the type of shielding needed.
MRI image quality can be degraded by interference.
RF Shielding – Walls and Ceilings
MR-CU Shield System
ETS-Lindgren’s MR-CU Shield System is made
of copper sheeting attached to a modular frame of
fire-rated Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL). The
modules install quickly and can be adapted easily
to the specific requirements of a particular room.
Because the modules are structurally independent
of the parent MRI room’s walls, they provide an
added seismic component. Add our optional sound
kit for increased acoustic attenuation.
MR-CU Shield System offers architectural flexibility.
RF Shielding – Floors
Like walls and ceilings, floors require RF
shielding as well. ETS-Lindgren offers two types
of shielded flooring; Monolithic and Modular.
Monolithic
Our in-place Monolithic floor consists of structurally
bonded materials that include a copper RF attenuator,
dielectric material, and a moisture resistant
barrier. Monolithic flooring is an ideal solution for
installations in moist, damp environments.
Monolithic flooring has a moisture resistant barrier
for an extra layer of protection.
Modular
Modular flooring uses our Series 81 modular
shielded panel system. Panels are made with
shielding material laminated to both sides of a
wood core. Galvanized steel, copper or aluminum
are the materials usually used for RF shielded floor
applications. A mechanical clamping system joins the
panels together. Modular flooring is a good choice
when quick installation is required.
Modular flooring installs quickly.
RF and Magnetic Shielding
Sometimes magnetic shielding is needed in addition
to RF shielding. This may be necessary when the
MRI room shares a common wall with another room
containing sensitive electronic equipment, or
one with equipment that generates strong magnetic
fields. When this occurs, a separate magnetic
shield can be constructed around the RF shield.
Silicon Steel
Silicon Steel provides the highest level of shielding
from magnetic fields. This shielding is also utilized
to contain energies of concern, such as an MRI rated
at 3T or above.
Series 81 Modular RF Shielding Panel
Series 81
Series 81 is a modular laminate panel system. Panels
are made with an appropriate shielding material
bonded to both sides of a wood core. A mechanical
clamping system joins the panels together.
Series 101
Series 101 is a modular pan-type shielded panel
system. Panels are shaped in the form of a
rectangular pan, and made entirely of metal.
Pans fasten together with bolts.

Magnetic Active Cancellation Systems
(MACS™)
Sometimes, MRI systems (or other medical
devices) may require more protection from
magnetic interference that is not possible with
passive shielding alone. ETS-Lindgren’s
Magnetic Active Cancellation System (MACS)
is an active system with real-time magnetic
field compensation for AC/DC magnetic field
fluctuation. In some instances, potential sites that
were previously rejected because of high magnetic
fields have become usable after a MACS system
was installed.
MACS units are small in size, self-contained, and
are easily installed. They require no maintenance
or adjustments after installation, under normal
operating conditions. MACS systems are designed
for continuous operation.

Electrical Power and Signal Line Filtering
Our medical filters prevent RF interference
from being conducted along electrical power
and signal lines to connected medical equipment.
ETS-Lindgren has an extensive selection of
filters to block RF interference.
EMI/RFI Shielded Waveguide Air Vents
Waveguide air vents allow the free-flow of air
into a shielded room for ventilation, and prevent
electromagnetic interference from entering the
room where the waveguides are installed.
Filters prevent transmission of conducted RF noise.
Soundproofing
ETS-Lindgren has solutions to reduce distracting
and disruptive noise in MRI rooms. Installing
acoustic material in walls, fitting baffles to
ventilation ducts, and isolating sources of
vibration are some of the methods used to create a
quiet environment.
Waveguides allow airflow but stop RF noise.

MRI SAFETY
SAFESCAN® Ferromagnetic
Detection Solutions
Properly designed and installed ferromagnetic
detection systems are a valuable tool as part
of your MRI safety and screening system.
ETS-Lindgren’s team of experts assures that your
system is properly placed and installed correctly.
The result is a dramatic decrease in the number of
extraneous alarms experienced with other systems.
You benefit with a safe and seamless workflow around
the MRI doorway and throughout your MRI suite.
OMS™ Oxygen Deficiency Monitor
Inert gases used in medical settings can escape
unnoticed, displacing oxygen and creating a health
hazard for staff and patients. The OMS Oxygen
Deficiency Monitor is a compact sample draw gas
monitoring system that continuously monitors areas
where gases may be used or stored. If the level of
oxygen in the room or storage area falls below a safe
limit, the OMS can be set to alarm both locally and at
a remote monitoring station.
The OMS uses zirconium oxygen sensor cell
technology rather than older electrochemical detection
methods. This allows the OMS to provide stable
readings in areas where temperature and humidity
levels are changing, and provides 10 or more years of
continuous use with a minimum of maintenance.
MRI safety includes ferromagnetic detection.
OMS monitors O2 levels for safety.
MRI ENGINEERING SERVICES
Engineering and
Consulting Solutions
In addition to being a leading provider of MRI
solutions, ETS-Lindgren is also a leader in EMC,
RF microwave, wireless, and acoustic technology.
As a result, we are able to approach problems
with an extensive base of scientific knowledge and
practical experience, giving us the ability to solve
problems that elude others.
RF
RF testing includes measurements to determine
the integrity of existing shield systems. Shield
seams and joints, electrical and mechanical service
penetrations, and door seals are all tested for loss.
EMI
When Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) is
suspected as the problem, the ambient is scanned
electronically to identify the source. Our team
then determines the appropriate actions required to
contain, eliminate, or lessen the effects.
DC Magnetic
Strong magnetic fields can have adverse effects
on sensitive instrumentation. Our engineering
team can identify magnetic sources and provide
solutions including containment shielding and
field cancellation (MACS).
Acoustic
Acoustic analysis includes measurements to
determine noise sources, whether airborne or
structurally transmitted. Solutions can include
source elimination, isolation, and soundproofing
existing structures.
Vibration Analysis
Noise can result from vibrations transmitted by
structural members over long distances. A site
analysis by our engineering team can determine
the source and implement isolation measures.
Our engineers and technicians have the experience and
expertise gained from more than 10,000 installations.
MODIFICATIONS AND RELOCATIONS
Maintenance Services
Periodic maintenance pays for itself in reduced
downtime and unexpected expense. Our
experienced service crews can visit your facility
on a scheduled basis to prevent problems before
they start. We offer maintenance contracts or
as-needed call-in service.
Shield Upgrades
An aging facility, new equipment, or an increasingly
RF noisy environment can dictate the need to install
new or additional shielding. Our engineers can
survey the ambient to determine the right amount of
shielding needed, and then have it installed.
Acoustic Upgrades
Meeting environmental standards, a lack of
soundproofing, or having existing soundproof
materials that need reinforcement, are reasons
you may need to call the team at ETS-Lindgren.
Our experts can survey your needs and provide
the right solution.
Our after-sales support protects your investment.
