Conference Theme
The ever increasing supply- demand mismatch in quantity of electrical power and the need for
better quality of power have been in focus in electrical engineering research. The increased use
of renewable energy resources, while reducing the green-house gases, has created micro-grids
and opened up considerable avenues and challenges for pursuing research in electrical power
and power electronics areas.
K L University
The K L University is situated in a spacious 60-acre campus on the banks of Buckingham canal of
river Krishna near Vijayawada city in the emerging capital region of Amaravati.The KL University is
a pioneer in the field of education and research. It was established as K L College of Engineering
in year 1980. The college was made autonomous in the year 2006 and accorded the status of a
deemed university in 2009.
The university offers 10 B.Tech programs in engineering, three in non-engineering stream, 11 fiveyear integrated degree programs and twelve 2-year M.Tech programs. It also offers full-time/
part-time Ph.D programs in engineering/ commerce/ management and sciences. The University
has five laboratories built in collaboration with industrial organizations like IBM. Microsoft, CISCO,
Oracle and Altair Engg. It has four advanced research centers on Robotics, Embedded Systems,
Bio-processing and Microwave & Antennas with a view to train the young to become highly
qualified and innovative engineers.
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has highly qualified and experienced
faculty. The department offers B.Tech and M.Tech programmes with specialization in Power
Systems and in Power Electronics & Electrical Drives. The department also offers part-time and fulltime Ph.D programme where over 120 scholars are working on topics with wide research base.
The Conference
The department of EEE of K L University planned conducting International Conference on
Smart Electric Grid once every two years with the first one conducted in the year 2014 with the
participation of eminent academicians from India and abroad. Like the first conference, the
second one too is expected to attract from eminent researchers quality research papers in the
areas of reliable and resilient power generation, transmission and distribution.
Call for Papers
Prospective authors are invited to submit full length original manuscripts limited to 6 pages
(which have not been submitted or published elsewhere in other conferences / journals) in
single column, double line spacing, 10-point font in A4 size paper. Submissions shall include title,
abstract, keywords, author and affiliation with email address. The conference covers wide range
of topics under Smart and Micro-grids including, but not limited to, the following:
Power Electronics and Components: Converters for renewable energies,Converters for storage,
Low-frequency EMC, Emerging power semi-conductor devices, Modular multi-level converters,
Electrical generators, Switch mode power supplies.
Power Systems: Computer aided power system protection, Artificial intelligence in power
systems, Power system planning and management, High voltage engineering, DC micro-grids,
Power quality.
Regulation and Electricity Markets: Regulatory issues and delivery standards, Dispatching in power
systems, Generation and transmission expansion, Dispersed generation and distribution system.
Soft Switching Techniques: Soft switching of dc-dc converters, Multiple output dc-dc converters,
High gain dc-dc converters, Resonant converters, High frequency converter design.
Renewable Energy Sources and Storages: Solar energy, Photovoltaic cell technology, Hydro and
wind energy, Fuel cell technology, Biomass and bio-fuels, Energy management and storage, Highperformance cogeneration, Advanced batteries for electric vehicles, Battery management.
Deregulated Smart and Micro-grids: Pricing of electricity, Power markets, Demand response, Smart
meters, Decentralized control of micro-grids, Multi-agent systems, Power system communication
networks, System islanding and restoration.
Smart Buildings: Lighting systems and components, Metering systems, Sensors, Nearly zero energy
buildings, Supervisory systems.
Panel Discussion on Smart Grid Technologies for Smart Cities
The discussion will focus on requirement of smart grid technologies for smart cities for meeting
energy requirements, the possibilities for usage of latest smart grid technologies suitable for
smart cities.Panelists will prepare their own questions and consider those submitted prior to the
conference by the authors of papers and conduct question - answer sessions.
