Dr. Mirman was awarded the NIU Presidential Engagement Professorship for his work in the area of engagement with the community through research, economic development, service and instruction in 2011. Integrating Industry into Engineering Technology Education to Produce Exceptional Graduates Dr. Mirman will address the growing need for integrating industry needs into the Engineering Technology programs. As educators, we constantly develop new applications of technology in our curriculum and corresponding laboratories to train our students, and we are always looking for new engagement opertunities for our students so that they can learn these new skills through both theory and application. To develop applications oriented technical professionals, that satisfy the complex and changing needs of industry, there needs to be a strong partnership between industry and academics. There are many modes in which academics and industry can work together to increase the number of graduates and develop needed skill sets. Technical education needs industrial input at all stages in the development. This presentation will detail many of the modes available through whioch the partnership can flourish.
