The context in which teaching and learning takes place influences the processes and procedures by which the school makes decisions around curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The context also impacts the way a school stays faithful to its vision. Many factors contribute to the overall narrative such as an identification of stakeholders, a description of stakeholder engagement, the trends and issues affecting the school, and the kinds of programs and services that a school implements to support student learning. The purpose of the Executive Summary (ES) is to provide a school with an opportunity to describe in narrative form the strengths and challenges it encounters. By doing so, the public and members of the school community will have a more complete picture of how the school perceives itself and the process of self-reflection for continuous improvement. This summary is structured for the school to reflect on how it provides teaching and learning on a day to day basis. Page 1 © 2015 Advance Education, Inc. Executive Summary St. Rose High School Notable Achievements and Areas of Improvement Describe the school's notable achievements and areas of improvement in the last three years. Additionally, describe areas for improvement that the school is striving to achieve in the next three years. On October 29, 2012, the campus of St. Rose Parish and High School was devastated by Super Storm Sandy when the Atlantic Ocean met the Shark River. All of our buildings suffered extensive damage. The high school was inundated with over nine feet of water on its first level and five large turtles along with an estimated eight hundred pounds of fish were removed from the buildings. Nine classrooms, two science labs, the art, music and technology departments, the cafeteria, kitchen, and all of the school offices were destroyed and their contents a complete loss. In the midst of such terrible loss, the best of St. Rose shone through. The faculty, administration, staff, students, alumni, and families, rallied together to reconfigure the unaffected space and SRHS reopened to students just two weeks later on November 12, 2013. While renovations took place on the lower level, student and teachers continued the work of Catholic education on our upper floors. With the generous support from the Diocese of Trenton, our alumni, parents, and communities across the nation, our renovated first floors debuted for the 2013 school year with state of the art science labs, relocated and revamped art and music departments, and new layouts for our classrooms and offices. The lower level of the Red Brick, the original school building, now boasts an extensive weight and workout room. Through the efforts of our advancement program and with the support of our generous alumni and many friends, we are now working to renovate the upper levels of our buildings with redesigns of our classrooms, library, and lobby planned for the near future. The experience of Super Storm Sandy allowed us to live what we have always known and loved about St. Rose. We are so much more than our buildings. We are a family, a community marked by excellence and bound by faith, love, and tradition. With the entrance of the Class of 2016, SRHS introduced a one-to-one iPAD program.
