Absence of glare
Light is refracted upward and not toward the
operator’s/inspector’s eyes.
Permanence
High utilization of light output
The upward distribution of more than 60% of total lamp lumens
provides effective illumination for overhead buss bars, disconnect
switches, insulators and fuses. Vertical and horizontal light enables
quick identification of open switches from ground level.
Excellent maintained illumination
Original light output can be restored by thorough cleaning, while the
natural cleansing action of rain maintains continuing high operating
output. Sealed gasket assemblies around the top and bottom of the
refractor keep the interior of the unit dirt- and weather-tight for many
years.
The one-piece prismatic light controlling element
is molded Endural® glass which is manufactured
to withstand the extreme temperature gradients
encountered outdoors. Metal fixture parts are
composed of stainless steel, cast and spun
aluminum to withstand severe weather.
Light shields
Inner shields for 90°, 120° and 180° light cutoff
are available for use on substations near
residential areas. Shields can be ordered with
new fixtures, or purchased separately and
installed in existing ones. Shields may be rotated
within fixtures to the most effective position.
Safety when relamping
Choice of lamps
Unit is mounted on bracket or post top below
high voltage equipment to prevent contact with
dangerous voltages when relamping.
From 70W to 400W HPS, 175W to 400W metal halide or mercury.
300W or 500W incandescent lamps may also be used.
On-site adjustment of light distribution
While lamp is on, the optical assembly can be
rotated up or down to obtain maximum
candlepower to reach disconnect switches and
other overhead structures. After adjusting, a set
screw locks the unit in place.
