TYPE 3: EMPLOYER AND PROVIDER-LED PD ACTIVITIES Type 3 Activities are activities that are “employer and provider led”. These activities are provided by employers such as the 9 Provincial Education Departments (including the Districts, District Teacher Development Centres, Professional Development Institutes and circuits), School Governing Bodies (SGBs), and Independent schools/groups/boards/associations and providers like higher education institutions, other government departments, teacher unions, private providers, NGOs, and other providers to address educators’ needs. For example, participating in activities that respond to the education system’s national and provincial priorities ( CAPS Training, Subject Content Knowledge activities, activities addressing literacy and numeracy, activities responding to the ANA/NSC National or Provincial Diagnostic Reports, NEEDU report, and others). Please note that some of the employer-led activities such as, district/circuit, SGB/Independent school association meetings, less than 6 days orientation/ workshops session, school-based support provided by the office-based officials (Subject Advisors / Circuit Managers/IDSO, SMGDL) or officials from the SGB Associations or officials from the Independent schools group/association/board, will carry the pre-determined points reflected in the PD Points schedule in the table below. Full qualifications, short courses, skills programme, 6 days and more PD Activities, will go through the SACE evaluation process, be endorsed and allocated PD Points. You will have to check the SACE database and / or catalogue in order to view a list of the actual endorsed PD activities and PD points allocated to each one of them. The SACE database of endorsed PD activities could be searched through the CPTD Self-service portal and the catalogue of endorsed PD activities is available on the SACE website and it will also be made available manually to educators without access to the internet. Remember you can also use the information in the Professional Development Portfolio for other purposes such as, supporting your Performance Management System / IQMS/ promotional post application process, and others. SACE will also use your Professional Development Portfolio information to monitor your participation in the three year CPTD cycle and uptake in the Professional Development activities. Type 1, 2 and 3 in terms of PD activities less than 6 days are not submitted to SACE for endorsement. As a teacher you are responsible for PARTICIPATING in them, RECORDING them in your Professional Development Portfolio, AND REPORTING THEM TO SACE in line with the Points Schedule / Tables provided above and SACE database/catalogue of Endorsed PD Activities. The remaining Type 3 PD Activities (short courses, full qualifications, skills 4 programmes, unit standards based part-qualifications) must go through a quality assurance process with SACE in order to protect you as a teacher against dishonest service providers and poor quality activities. These (Type 3) PD activities are provided by the SACE Approved Providers. REPORTING FOR TYPE 3 PD ACTIVITIES The Provider / Employer on behalf of the teachers (Training Directorates, Districts, DTDCs, PTDIs, Circuits) - TD to Coordinate The Teacher Verifies Provider / Employer Sign-Up Reporting in Type 3 responds to DIP /PIP, Provincial / National Priorities, Provincial / National ANA / NSC Diagnostic Reports and Scarce and Critical Skills (PIVOTAL Programmes) Skills Development Committees to ensure that teachers participate in the skills development programmes that are SACE Endorsed for them to earn PD Points. The Providers must also me SACE Approved Remember, educators have to earn PD Points across the three types of professional development activities as highlighted above .
