OUR WORK LOUIS VUITTON 11 LOUIS VUITTON Location: Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Design: Peter Marino Shading Skin Consultant: FTL Design Engineering Studio Pavilion Design: Moshe Safdie OVERVIEW A prestigious international project, Eventscape was part of a highly collaborative team who worked together to engineer, fabricate and install a series of custom sun shades throughout the 46,000 square foot glass pavilion. DESCRIPTION This extraordinary island crystal pavilion is luxury giant Louis Vuitton’s newest store in Singapore. Located in the beautiful Marina Bay Sands development, it is the first Island Maison in Southeast Asia. Louis Vuitton brought in internationally acclaimed architect Peter Marino to design the store interior from the ground up. The design reflects a nautical theme, consistent with both the location and the brand’s historical association with travel. The main challenge for the design team of Peter Marino and FTL was to manage the light levels within the all-glass pavilion and to protect the luxury goods from harmful UV damage. The solution was a series of over 300 unique framed panels with a UV-resistant membrane skin. Covering a total area of 25,000 square feet, each custom sun shade is almost 20 feet long. Two different architectural textiles, one made of PTFE and the other glass fiber with polymer coatings were used to achieve the specific translucencies required on the walls and ceilings. Extremely durable and easily cleaned, the panels allow consistent diffused light and are positioned so that visitors are still able to access spectacular views of the surrounding Marina Bay. Tensile architecture specialists, FTL Design Engineering Studio from New York, were contracted to develop the design of the shading system and Eventscape worked with all parties to make the shades a reality. Location: Corus Quay, Toronto Headquarters Building, Toronto, ON Design: Quadrangle Architects Limited (Base Building: Diamond Schmitt Architects) Photography: Richard Johnson OVERVIEW Quadrangle’s designers brought Eventscape into the project at an early stage to provide custom architectural fabricated solutions for a number of elements that combined function and fun over eight floors in the interior space. This resulted in a collaborative design/development process that allowed both parties to explore multiple options throughout the space and provide innovative solutions to Corus. DESCRIPTION This high profile 500,000 square foot commercial building on Toronto’s lakefront is a dynamic space that successfully consolidates all of Corus’s Toronto-based broadcast operations. With over 1,100 employees in open concept offices, it highlights color, textures and artistic forms in an environmentally friendly facility. In the entrance lobby, the large curved Corian wall elegantly displays the current 27 brands under the Corus masthead. The custom reception desk was built of Corian and fiberglass with integrated lighting to create the sculpted organic form. An undulating ribbon feature winds throughout the atrium space. Constructed of aluminum frame with a supple polyurethane covering, the design was inspired by the iconic spiral in the company logo. At each end, the ribbon transforms into a color matched custom metal bench, also fabricated by Eventscape. At each floor’s elevator lobbies, Eventscape fabricated and installed acoustic perforated metal curved ceiling panels. In the 8th floor lounge, we created the custom textile ceilings, Corian bar, and awards display cove — all with integrated lighting. In the theatre, custom acoustic ceilings and wall panels were installed which incorporate stainless steel trims in the horizontal reveals. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 68 8TH FLOOR Dynamic social and theatre spaces defined by custom acoustic textile ceilings, walls, Corian bar, and awards display cove - all by Eventscape. For the central low profile custom light features, Eventscape engineered a sheet metal light baffle to achieve a knife edge with minimal shadows, essentially creating a six-sided, frameless, luminous light box. 24 PHOENIX CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL PHOENIX CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL Location: Phoenix, AZ Design: HKS Inc. Photography: Blake Marvin OVERVIEW A suspended three ringed metal canopy with integrated lighting above the main reception counter serves as the dynamic entry-point in the soaring three-storey atrium of the hospital’s 77,000 square foot expansion. DESCRIPTION The architects designed an elliptical brushed aluminum canopy over the main reception counter. The three ringed canopy covers an area of 22 ft. x 28 ft. All rings were laser cut, rolled and welded with aluminum fins as connecting plates and hand polished. The outer ring has an 8 in. x 12 in. profile with a reveal to incorporate the cathode lighting. The canopy was suspended using a combination of nautical stainless steel rigging and custom concealed stainless steel mounts. 26 ST. JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL ST. JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL Location: Paterson, NJ Design: Francis Cauffman Architects Photography: Halkin Photography LLC/Todd Mason and St. Joseph’s Healthcare System OVERVIEW As part of the hospital’s expansion project, a dynamic new main lobby was envisioned - one that would symbolize the global reach and technologically advanced care the hospital offers. DESCRIPTION This renovation and expansion involved three separate elements provided by Eventscape: a Globe feature, Acrylic Media Wall and double curved Ceiling Panels. The large 30 ft. x 30 ft. media wall is composed of an array of custom acrylic lighting units set at various depths. The interior LED lights are networked to function as an abstracted video wall capable of running any standard video feed. The dramatic 20 ft. diameter Globe feature was originally designed as a geodesic sphere of metal framework with a fabric membrane covering. Working closely with the architects, Eventscape proposed options to achieve this form using alternative materials and techniques. Each colored acrylic cube is precisely placed to create a giant glowing globe, complete with all continents and polar caps. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 72 ONE BLOOR SALES CENTER 29 ONE BLOOR SALES CENTER Location: Toronto, ON Design: Cecconi Simone Developer: Great Gulf OVERVIEW This condo project is at the prestigious heart of downtown Toronto. Informed by the flowing sculpted facade and luxurious aspects of the future condominium itself, the sales center showcases a rich array of organic forms and materials. Over 15 custom elements were developed by Eventscape. DESCRIPTION Eventscape engineered, fabricated and installed the diverse custom elements with multiple material finishes — each one featuring a high degree of design and engineering sophistication. Completion of this project was required within a very limited time period. Eventscape’s versatile, flexible team provided solutions that could be implemented quickly and efficiently. The collaborative design/engineering and fabrication process facilitated design changes and the precise finishes required. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 74 OLIVER & BONACINI 33 OLIVER & BONACINI Location: Oakville, Toronto and Waterloo, ON Design: Anacleto Design Photography: Eventscape and Riley Stewart OVERVIEW This celebrated upscale restaurant wanted a patio space that would be inviting by day while acting as a warm, welcoming beacon by night; a design that could adapt easily to multiple locations and become an expression of the brand’s solid reputation and innovative contemporary vision. DESCRIPTION - OAKVILLE Eventscape was responsible for the entire 80 ft. long x 25 ft. high structure, which is composed of steel framing and brake-formed aluminum fascia panels with a custom powder-coated finish. The LED lighting in each reveal outlines and illuminates the structure at night. A fabric membrane roof panel system protects the summer patio diners from the elements. DESCRIPTION - TORONTO Eventscape engineered, fabricated and installed the large patio structure that wraps around the entire north corner of the main downtown Toronto block of Front and Yonge Streets; the flagship location of this group of restaurants. The custom glass-topped bar and metal panel column feature built by Eventscape glow with internal lighting. Following the Oliver & Bonacini design signature, this purposely urban design features clean contemporary lines and elements.This design is the third with a classical portico patio, which has become a recognizable icon for the restaurant. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 78 JUMP.CA 37 JUMP.CA Location: Saskatoon, SK Design: SSDG Interiors Photography: Riley Stewart OVERVIEW Jump.ca, a telecommunications company with a dynamic branding message, required a multi-faceted multi-function wall system incorporating the marketing message, product display and storage, specialty lighting and media to give an immediate impact. The curved design of the interior display wall creates a fluidity to the store in this fully interactive space. DESCRIPTION The display wall winds around the room in an irregular curved pattern with a graceful concave top, requiring each of the 102 backlit acrylic panels to be unique in size and shape. Eventscape engineered, fabricated and installed all elements within the store: discovery wall, accessory wall and all millwork. Featured materials include: steel, acrylic, digitally printed flexible and nonflexible textile, back-painted glass, laminate millwork and LED light panels. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 82 MARK’S 39 MARK’S Location: Langley, BC, Edmonton, AB, (Concept store), and multiple locations across Canada. (Rollout) Design: Mark’s Work Wearhouse Store Design Photography: iHart Photos, Kendall Townend OVERVIEW Eventscape has worked with the design team at Mark’s on their nationwide rebranding program for over two years. Starting in 2009 with the concept store in Edmonton, Eventscape has collaborated on a number of custom elements that define and promote the brand. DESCRIPTION The objective of the corporate rebranding program was to create smart stores that educate and excite customers about the technology built into their products. This was achieved through multiple design elements that incorporate interactive digital displays, video, graphics and visual merchandising, all finished with the vibrant brand colors. Technology towers, product display fixtures, interior and exterior signage were all created. Each element was refined and value engineered through design development, creating efficiencies in fabrication for the successful nationwide rollout. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 84 40 CI FINANCIAL CI FINANCIAL Location: Toronto, ON Design: Straticom Planning Associates Inc. OVERVIEW This project involved consolidating a number of office locations into one premier building over several floors in downtown Toronto. Eventscape engineered, fabricated and installed an impressive metal grid ceiling feature for the main reception area, which depicts the central design theme. DESCRIPTION The suspended metal grid in the reception establishes a defining formal pattern for the new office, which is later repeated in a smaller scale at the elevator lobbies and in the 9th floor common space. Eventscape acted as the common point of coordination for all trades working on the ceiling. This was accomplished through a combination of CAD and physical templates which were installed to establish geometries as an early phase of construction. The final installation was prefabricated using a custom metal system which combined repeating sections with unique CNC cut brake-formed nodes to create this dramatic 30 m x 10 m feature. 42 WATERLOO TOWN SQUARE WATERLOO TOWN SQUARE Location: Kitchener, ON Design: Netkin Architect OVERVIEW To attract additional clientele, this downtown upscale mall went through an extensive upgrade and renovation that included vertical and horizontal ceiling features, enhancing this contemporary environment. DESCRIPTION Eventscape collaborated with the architect to develop a number of custom suspended sculptural ceiling features. Constructed of aluminum frame, some with an architectural mesh textile covering, and some without, each form is a complex rectilinear “gem” with multiple facets. Both horizontal and vertical features were used. The vertical features are sculptural elements of angled frame appearing to grow out of the solid angled planters below. GTAA INFORMATION KIOSK 45 GTAA INFORMATION KIOSK Location: Pearson International Airport, Toronto, ON Design: ZAS Interiors OVERVIEW As part of the corporate rebranding of the airport, a new information kiosk was required. This dynamic, eye-catching solution, installed in the main terminal, features the vibrant brand colors — a beacon for visitors to the facility. DESCRIPTION The architect’s original design concept called for a lightweight canopy hung from the ceiling. However, since suspension was not possible, Eventscape developed a free-standing 30 ft. x 30 ft. canopy, with angled columns supporting a 5 in. x 5 in. aluminum tube canopy. To maintain the architect’s request for a floating look, significant cantilevers were incorporated, supported by a minimal number of columns. Lateral bracing was avoided by using moment connections at the base of the columns. The free-standing design was easily adapted to the lower ceilings of the second location in Terminal 3. MERCER CONDO SALES CENTER 47 MERCER CONDO SALES CENTER Location: Toronto, ON Design: The Design Agency OVERVIEW The designer created a motif of geometric steel panels that would form a dramatic exterior/interior detail for this downtown condominium. DESCRIPTION Eventscape fabricated and installed the geometric exterior steel panels as well as the interior divider panels that designate meeting areas and information kiosks. The mirror acrylic wall panel with routed pattern behind the reception desk continues the geometric theme. 48 MLSE MLSE Location: Toronto, ON Design: Eventscape Inc. and Straticom Planning Associates Inc. Photography: Riley Stewart OVERVIEW Eventscape was commissioned by Straticom to design, fabricate, and install a fully contained corporate boardroom structure for the mezzanine level of Canada’s premier sports and entertainment venue. DESCRIPTION Designed to reflect aspects of the Canadian landscape, the structure is built of high strength 3 in. diameter structural steel with 1/2 in. tempered glass walls on two sides, making the most of the access to natural light. Aluminum ceiling coves, doors, walls, fabric membrane ceilings, HVAC, sprinklers and lighting complete the space. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 86 50 MARRIOTT MARQUIS TIMES SQUARE MARRIOTT MARQUIS TIMES SQUARE Location: New York City, NY Design: Forrest Perkins OVERVIEW Eventscape engineered, fabricated and installed a complex faceted mirrored glass bar feature as well as a series of mobile wall partition panels in this inspiring hotel renovation. DESCRIPTION Located in the heart of Times Square and the Broadway theatre district, this top rated hotel brings the energy of Manhattan inside. The overlapping mirrored glass panels, integrated lighting, hidden television monitors and shelving, were all designed into a very tight existing footprint. Situated at the base of the soaring 37-storey atrium, the sleek spiral bar provides a stunning visual for the guests in the rooms above. Eventscape provided the template for a detailed coordination between all the trades on site so that this 20 ft. tall x 30 ft diameter feature was installed flawlessly. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 88 52 US OPEN VIP LOUNGE US OPEN VIP LOUNGE Location: Flushing Meadows, NY Design: Gensler OVERVIEW A VIP lounge area was required to support both the annual US Open tournament and ongoing functions at the National Tennis Centre in NY. The cantilevered-styled canopy structure was built of an aluminum ribbed frame, clad with powder coated aluminum panels. The bars and tables are of a similar construction with additional backlit acrylic inserts. Clean curved lines, sleek finishes and a minimal color palette produced an impressive, contemporary styled entrance feature, visible from the exterior. DESCRIPTION Multiple materials were utilized in this 82 ft. long and 20 ft. deep canopy structure: rolled, CNC cut aluminum frame, aluminum panels, faux leather, acrylic and tempered glass. Lighting, audio and media components were also incorporated. As a cost effective, lightweight solution for the canopy, faux leather cladding was used on the ceiling, matching the white metal panels in color and aesthetics. Minimal integrated ceiling lighting provided a club atmosphere while up lights offset the smoothness of the canopy surface against the exposed building structure above. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 90 ALLEN THEATRE 55 ALLEN THEATRE Location: Cleveland, OH Design: Westlake Reed Leskosky OVERVIEW A massive renovation that solved an acoustical problem with the use of meticulously detailed faceted steel walls, yet preserved the 1920’s ornate Italian renaissance-style architecture of the space. DESCRIPTION The Allen Theatre is one of eight performance venues in this, the largest performing arts center in the US outside of New York City. The renovation involved transforming this large theatre into three smaller spaces. The historical significance and ornate architecture was preserved to create a multilayered contrast of styles and materials while solving a number of technical issues of sight lines and acoustics. Eventscape’s team engineered, fabricated and installed the faceted, perforated steel walls that cover a surface area of over 2,400 square feet. The perforated panels act as a visual scrim, with the acrylic backing and precise angle of facets providing accurate sound reflection. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 92 STUDIO ON RICHMOND 57 STUDIO ON RICHMOND Location: Toronto, ON Design: Mike Niven Interior Design Inc. Photography: Tom Malone Photo OVERVIEW Set in the midst of the arts, entertainment and culture scene, this sales center reflects the location’s creative style and flare. DESCRIPTION Eventscape fabricated five major features — each with their own unique challenges. The three dimensional faceted forms were all built using different framing materials: steel, wood and aluminum with different coverings on each. All elements of the forms required exact joins with consistent reveals, made possible by Eventscape’s design/ engineering capabilities, CNC cutting, individual templating and precise installation. The resulting sales center is a dynamic setting to introduce an inspirational neighbourhood and excite potential condo owners. READ IN-DEPTH CASE STUDY PaGe 94 CASE STUDIES 64 LOUIS VUITTON CS LOUIS VUITTON CASE STUDY DEDICATED FABRICATION TEAMS Eventscape mobilized a fully customized and scalable pod based manufacturing process for this project, utilizing two shifts to maximize productivity. A CNC dual head miter saw was used to ensure accuracy and control checks were conducted after each stage to ensure a consistent high quality was maintained. Custom tables were used during fabrication to fully support the textile. This system allowed the textile to remain on one plane in a single orientation as it moved through all stages of fabrication. DIGITAL SITE MEASUREMENTS Due to the complex geometry of the building, Eventscape conducted a digital site survey in order to create a detailed 3D model. This was used to design both the panels and the mounting system, to ensure accuracy and ease of installation. Eventscape’s model information was also used by all partners as a tool for design development and to coordinate the installation of many different elements. PROTOTYPE AND PROJECT DEVELOPMENT CUSTOM HARDWARE FTL designed an innovative edge detail for the panels - the first of its kind - that would provide proper tensioning and maximum light penetration on the frame edges and corners. A full prototype phase allowed for a complete assessment of the panel design by all project team members prior to fabrication. Through the course of this fast track project, a highly collaborative design process with FTL allowed Eventscape to accelerate production and complete the project ahead of schedule. Working directly with FTL, Eventscape’s engineering team designed a custom machined, site specific mounting system able to address the dimensional variations unique to that building type. This system allowed for repeating panel types, while still retaining tight, even tolerances throughout by permitting movement in all axes. The ceiling panels were hinged, with a cable mechanism to allow controlled access during maintenance of the skylights above. SUCCESSFUL RESULT Celebrities and VIPs from all over the globe attended Louis Vuitton’s grand opening of this new luxury island maison, a prestigious international gem. “We definitely understand that the end quality of a completed project rests on everyone on the team and as such we are careful to work with proven contractors who exhibit quality in their execution. Your team lived up to your reputation and we look forward to recommending your firm again in the future.” INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS Precise coordination of the fabrication, shipping and installation teams facilitated a staged schedule based on just-in-time delivery. Each week, 50 panels were air shipped in wood enclosed custom steel crates wrapped in polyethylene. Each panel was skinned and pre-tensioned with a film covering to prevent any marking prior to shipping. Custom waterproof protective shipping bags were designed to remain on during installation. This allowed the panels to be mounted at an earlier stage of construction, thus shortening the overall production schedule. Upon reaching this island site via boat, each panel was off loaded and installed within minutes by the contractor. On site supervision was by Eventscape.The final stage was to remove the coverings. CASE STUDY ATRIUM RIBBON FEATURE Originally conceived as a metal ribbon, to stay within budget Eventscape suggested a frame and textile undulating ribbon option. Several different 3D options were developed by the Eventscape design team, and a final design was selected. MOCKUP RIBBON TO BENCH A mockup of the ribbon was installed to confirm how the size and finish of the ribbon would perform in the finished atrium and hallway. The textile ribbon transitions to metal and culminates in a matching metal bench at both ends. Fluidity, Movement... An architectural vision interpreted. In order to create the formed fiberglass surface, a false front was created from baltic ply. With the addition of kerfed wood strips, this provided a rough guide and backer for our FRP specialist to spray the foam. These wood strips were laid in to define the primary contour lines of the front and also provided a 2 2 mount for the recessed LED lighting. JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL CASE STUDY PROCESS The Eventscape design team presented several concepts to meet both budget and aesthetic requirements. The final solution was an intricate structure of 860 individual 6 in. x 6 in. acrylic cubes in blue, green and white precisely placed to represent the continents, water and polar caps. Eventscape’s team also designed and engineered a steel suspension grid that would mount directly to the glass atrium dome. MEDIA WALL As envisioned by the architect, the acrylic media wall was built of engineered metal framework and a variable depth mounting of over 300 translucent acrylic boxes. Inside each box lies the programmable LED light system for an ever-changing wall of abstract images and colors. DOUBLE CURVED CEILINGS PROTOTYPING ASYMMETRICAL CURVES In the development of Eventscape’s projects, prototypes are frequently required to test materials and lighting effects. This assures clients that these custom elements will perform as per their specifications. Detailed 3D drawings allowed us to perfectly match the curvature of each panel to the asymmetrical curved site. The challenge for the Multi-Purpose room ceiling panels was that it involved aluminum sides with a textile bottom in a three-dimensional curved shape. To obtain a clean tight fit for the textile with no exposed fasteners, we created several prototypes and mockups. The final solution was the development of a new metal insert component, engineered to curve in both directions. MULTIPLE CUSTOM ELEMENTS Over 15 custom elements were engineered, fabricated and installed by Eventscape. CENTER HUB White faux leather covers the curved wood and metal CNC cut framework of the center hub. The integrated seating niche features elegant complex curved metal benches, circling the projected interactive virtual pond. The seats are finished with embossed leather. Eventscape also built the inset fireplace, which contains an eco friendly bioethanol burner. GLASS WALL PANELS CURVED CEILING FEATURE Black back-painted glass panels with velour finish and bevelled edges make up the three wall surfaces. Additional custom iPad holders, 20 LCD screens, sandblasted backlit lettering with LED lighting and a hidden door were also integrated. White faux leather covers the reception wall, desk and ceiling feature. Rolled aluminum tubes, laser-cut integrated light cove and connecting plates complete the 20 ft. long curved ceiling feature. RECEPTION DESK The faux leather finished cantilevered desk appears to float in the wall opening. The custom CNC cut electro-plated aluminum trim was finished in brown patina and the corners were hand rolled to fit the compound curves of the wall opening faces. CUSTOM SOFA BACKLIT GRAPHICS An impressive 14 ft. long custom organic-shaped sofa covered with embossed leather greets the visitors to the center. Precise templates and careful pattern matching were required to create the complex curved form and flawless finish. Frosted graphic text on back-painted glass panels on the wall contrast with the warm tones of the sample table. The finish samples were grouped by area by building custom CNC cut trays and highlighted by concealed LED strip edge lighting. DECORATIVE COLUMNS Decorative Tee columns are built of machined aluminum with a spun aluminum cone top. Custom bronze plating and hand-rubbed black oxide give the structures a rich patina finish. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO 78 OLIVER & BONACINI CS OLIVER & BONACINI CASE STUDY CHALLENGE To create a signature facade that would be contemporary yet also evoke a classical solidity and scale, to achieve the look of stone slabs without the weight, and create a transitional look from day to night. SOLUTION Several solutions were utilized for the patio: prefabricated columns were designed to be lightweight; a waterproof membrane encapsulated the base structure; a custom clip system allowed for attachment of panels with no visible fasteners and the panels were custom CNC cut aluminum with custom powder coat finish. COLUMN FEATURE This light feature of overlapping metal panels includes a glowing classic graphic skin base. PRE-FABRICATION Pre-fabrication allowed for uniform construction. This modular approach allowed all electrical connections to be pre-wired inside the panels. LIGHTWEIGHT CONNECTION All structure connections were designed to reduce weight due to site limitations. PATIO DESIGN BEAMS AND CANOPIES STRUCTURAL FRAMES Light gauge steel framing was used to minimize overall structure weight. The beams were enclosed similar to the wall panels. Ceiling canopies tie down to the beam around the center trough for water management and seasonal architectural textile skin directs water down to the trough and away from building. The newest location in downtown Toronto has a much larger patio, continuing the panel LED outline lighting utilized in the last two locations. GLASS UP-LIT BAR The translucent glass top allows an even glow across the entire 105 square feet. The bar has an aluminum panel front and bar shelf unit with lockable storage. LED LIGHTING LED lighting was pre-wired and mounted to drop-in trays. Each removable back-mounted panel needed a consistent reveal line to provide an even indirect glow. The signage was fully integrated into the custom panel construction. Each tailored textile graphic was individually wrapped around the curved acrylic panels, then mounted to the hidden steel frame. COMPLETE BRANDED ENVIRONMENT The graphic wall, incorporating digital backlit LED and LCD monitors, creates a dynamic fully branded environment that engages customers and encourages product interaction. FLEXIBILITY CUSTOM MILLWORK ACCESSORY WALL All millwork supports the brand’s youthful focus with clean lines and classic white finish. The interchangeable glass panels can create any merchandising arrangement of shelves and pegs simply by turning glass modules on a 90-degree angle. To allow for continued growth and evolution as a brand, the graphics can be refreshed and replaced very easily, and digital screens can change on a scheduled basis. Clean transitions/reveals and almost no visible fasteners provide a seamless look to the sleek unit. Exterior aluminum signage with integrated lighting added brand identity to the store exteriors. TECHNOLOGY TOWERS PRE-ASSEMBLY BIG IDEAS FIXTURE The steel Big Ideas Fixture (BIF) incorporates product information touch screens, and articulating tables with tiered shelves and bars for a flexible display of various sized featured merchandise. The rollout units are fabricated in a batch run for production continuity. Each one is pre-assembled and tested prior to shipping for quality assurance. The re-designed technology display towers incorporate a graceful curved shape that continues in the curved graphic ceiling panels. This design was value engineered and optimized for a smaller footprint with interactive, educational content updated through the Internet by head office. LIGHT AND PRIVACY FULLY CONTAINED The tempered glass walls allow the maximum amount of light to reach the interior of the room while the applied graphic pattern went through several prototypes to determine the best density for privacy. The structure incorporates complete HVAC, sprinklers and custom lighting. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO 88 MARRIOTT MARQUIS TIMES SQUARE CS MARRIOTT MARQUIS TIMES SQUARE SPIRAL DOWN CASE STUDY In order to have each panel lock precisely into the next, the installation had to start from the top of the feature and work down in a spiral, in horizontal tiers. Each of the 11 facets weighed over 800 lbs. CHALLENGE To retrofit a new complex faceted glass and CNC cut metal custom structure on an existing substructure without any concrete datum points to reference. SOLUTION Coordination was key in this project. Eventscape’s design engineering team created and installed a master template complete with laser sweep vertical references for multiple on-site trades to follow. This ensured a successful construction of the wood substructure in preparation for Eventscape’s new mirrored glass and metal bar feature. Each of the 135 panes had its own unique cut path, and had a specific location on the frame assembly, maintaining a fixed relation to each other. The glass tiled together with a maximum clearance of 1/2 an inch between panels. COORDINATION To accommodate existing site conditions, a series of scaffolding starting one floor below the lobby was found to be the best solution for installation. INSTALLATION MOBILE DIVIDERS Laser sweep eyelids were placed at the top of the template to provide a base line reference for building out the wood substructure and for installing each of the 11 ladder frames. The glass was laminated with a PVB interlayer to meet code requirements, with custom milled solid aluminum shoes to lock each of the 130 panels into the ladder frame as determined by the frame cut path. Each one was unique and fit precisely under the panel above. The laser lines eliminated any need for tape measures or levels on site. FRAME Water jet cut 1/2” aluminum and laser cut spiral custom light halo made up the frame. The wood substructure was built on top of the existing framing of the previous bar. Eventscape fabricated 75 identical powder coated, flip-milled MDF panels with a knockout pattern and an aluminum frame. Anchored to the existing base building I-beams, the track allowed them to nestle into each other with a foot-operated friction stop. DISAPPEARING ACT Given a design criteria of disappearing front bar faces, Eventscape engineered a simple counterweight and pulley system to hide and lock the liquor bottles. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO 90 US OPEN VIP LOUNGE US OPEN VIP LOUNGE VERTICAL SUPPORT CASE STUDY To minimize permanent changes to the existing building, the canopy structure was laterally supported with only seven vertical sections of 2” x 2” H.S.S that attached to the ceiling. BAR FEATURES CONSISTENT HORIZONTAL PLANE The curved aluminum panels needed to maintain a consistent horizontal plane along the entire 82 foot length. To control the radius, a series of aluminum ribs backed the panels within the overall framework. The 1/8” thick flat aluminum panels were backed with an MDF substrate, which facilitated surface continuity, improved acoustics and fastening. DESIGNER’S RENDERING The start of the process. The longer 32 ft. bar served as the beverage and food service area while the shorter 16 ft. long “interactive” bar included 16 inset iPads with custom software. Both bars had glowing backlit acrylic faces and were finished with an automotive grade, catalyzed, gloss white coating for an extremely durable finish. This same finish was used on the adjacent boomerang shaped concierge desk. On the back wall, monitors displayed live action video feed throughout the event. MONOLITHIC APPEARANCE To achieve the designer’s intent of an extruded, monolithic structure, all materials required invisible joins. After assembling all elements on site, each aluminum panel had only a 1/16” reveal and incorporated precise electrical and mechanical connections. Transitions between each material were visually uniform and maintained the illusion of a solid, one-piece structure. At the portal to the interior support facilities, backlit acrylic ceiling panels create a glowing entrance. SUCCESSFUL RESULT SITE COORDINATION The metal canopy structure wrapped around the drywall walls of the interior kitchen and washroom facilities. These were being built concurrently with the Eventscape structure so it was imperative to maintain detailed site coordination. With a very tight timeline for fabrication and installation, together with detailed site coordination with all the other trades, Eventscape was able to produce what one visitor called ”….the best venue on the US Open grounds by far”, and the client described as “….the best thing we've ever done in retail — the best branded site I've seen”. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO 92 ALLEN THEATRE CS ALLEN THEATRE EAST SIDE SCREEN WALL CASE STUDY PRECISION CHALLENGE Following an initial site visit, a detailed 3D model was used to engineer and manufacture the screen walls. Panels were fastened to structural steel tube framing, which clipped to existing steel columns in the auditorium. Since each panel has a unique geometry and location on the wall, each was tagged with an ID system developed to track and locate it. The entire assembly was dry-fit in Toronto, before being dismantled and shipped to Cleveland. This ensured that the installation was completed rapidly with accuracy and precision, accommodating all other adjacent elements in the space. The challenge was to create a faceted, perforated metal wall that was acoustically reflective, while acting as a visual scrim that can reveal or hide the original ornate interior finishes of the theatre, depending on which side is lit. SOLUTION Eventscape’s design and engineering team created a 3D model of the space consolidating the architect’s 2D CAD sections and elevations. Working closely with the acoustician, the angles of the facets were adjusted as needed to disperse the sound accurately. The two side walls consisted of 2400 sq. ft of 300 unique, brake formed, laser cut perforated steel panels. 75% of the perforated panels are backed by a clear copolymer sheet, which reflects sound. The scrim effect was achieved through a combination of a gradient of perforations, from 28% openness to 46% openness at the top, and lighting installed behind the walls. A ATTACHMENT SOLUTION A WEST ELEVATION OF EAST SCREEN WALL (VIEW FROM BEHIND EAST SCREEN WALL) (THIS IS THE ORIENTATION OF THE SECTION) SCALE: 1:150 The Eventscape team provided the optimum solution for attaching the two materials. Over 10,000 1/8" diameter weld studs were applied by hand using a laser projected grid pattern for placement. Custom laser-cut clear washers were then hand tightened over corresponding holes in the copolymer for each panel. The slightly oversized holes in the copolymer sheet allow for differential movement between the perforated steel and the copolymer. The original solution of fully laminating the two materials using a clear, medical-grade, UV cured, epoxy glue failed when the assembly was subjected to temperature changes. The result is a visually unobtrusive mechanical attachment, which is also demountable, providing ease of panel replacement and allowing for separate recycling of the two materials at the eventual end of the life of the screen wall as an added bonus. SECTION A-A SCALE 1 : 40 (FOR SECTION) CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO 94 STUDIO ON RICHMOND CS STUDIO ON RICHMOND CASE STUDY CHALLENGE Each of the elements — seating niche, faceted wall, desk, steel screen wall and ceiling and wall panels — were fabricated from different materials and required a different fabrication solution. SOLUTION Eventscape utilized their expertise in 3D design/engineering drawings, CNC cutting, brake form metal and individual templating to fabricate each structure. This provided a contiguous solution, seamlessly flowing from one structure to the next. METAL SCREEN WALL Forming one side of the entrance to the model suite, the irregular laser cut, brake formed steel screen is a myriad of complex connections, each one unique. FACETED WALL This 17 ft. curved faceted wall was finished with CNC cut high gloss lacquer-painted MDF panels. Small hinges were used to position and connect the panels to the interior ribbed frame, achieving a floating appearance. Using 3D modeling, this flexible connector allowed the designers to precisely map the panels in reference to the existing surface in order to secure a continuous reveal between them. SEATING NICHE To create this complex geometrical structure, CNC-routed vertical and horizontal ribs were built to match the profile. COMPLEX SURFACING CNC-cut templates were used to miter cut the foam and panels, which were then covered with rich red wool textile. CEILING AND WALL PANELS INTERIOR FRAME SITE RESTRAINTS To achieve the irregular angled planes, a combination of tilted brackets, adjustable mounting hardware and aircraft cable was used to install the aluminum frame and textile wall & ceiling panels. The faceted wall was built using a CNC-cut wooden interior frame. Vertical and horizontal ribs were connected in an egg-crate configuration translating the 3D computer model into the complex curved profile of the wall. Standard double doors required each element to break apart in small sections and be bolted together on site with custom plates, which became a distinctive structural detail. FACETED STAINLESS STEEL The reception desk’s faceted surface was fabricated with brake formed mirror finish stainless steel panels. Eventscape used strategically placed custom stand offs and a blackout layer behind the panels to create the illusion of floating facets. Using the same technology and matching the faceted wall, each panel had precise reveals.
