Thecolorwheelisadeviceforillustrating

totwelveofthemaroundthecolorwheel:
red,red-orange,orange,yellow-orange,
yellow,yellow-green,green,blue-green,blue,
blue-violet,violet(purple),red-violet,and
backtored.

Primarycolors–red,yellow,andblue–are
thebuildingblocksofotherhues.Theyare
equidistantonthecolorwheel.

Secondarycolorsarethosemadebymixing
twoprimaries.Orange(red+yellow),Green
(yellow+blue)andpurpleorviolet(blue+red)
aresecondarycolors.

Tertiarycolorsarethoseinbetweenthe
secondariesandprimaries:red-orange,yellow-orange,yellow-green,blue-green,blueviolet,andred-violet.

Complimentarycolorsarepairsthatareoppositeonthe
colorwheelandhavethehighestcontrastintermsofhue:
