ABOUT KSEA The Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) was established in 1971 as a non-profit national professional organization. It encourages networking and mentorship amongst students and professionals with college degrees in science and engineering and a common cultural heritage. KSEA has three purposes in mind. First is to promote the application of science and technology for the general welfare of society. Second is to foster the cooperation of international science communities, especially between the United States and Korea. Lastly, KSEA serves to help Korean-American scientists and engineers to develop their full career potential by organizing technology transfer and entrepreneurship seminars, technical and leadership conferences, and by fostering mentor-mentee relationships among many other activities. Currently, KSEA has more than 40 chapters and 13 technical groups covering all major branches of science and engineering. Since its founding, it has been recognized as the main representative organization promoting the common interests of Korean-American scientists and engineers. KSEA welcomes participation from 1st-generation, 2nd-generation, and 3rd-generation Korean American scientists and engineers including those from mixed-race and adopted communities. KSEA promotes awareness of the rapid advances in science and engineering occurring inside and outside the United States. Today, it is helping create opportunities for the young generation by establishing lines of communication with other talented scientists and engineers in the United States and Korea. The Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) 1952 Gallows Road, Suite 300 Vienna, Virginia 22182, USA Email: sejong@ksea.org Phone: 703-748-1221, Fax: 703-748-1331 ABOUT YGNITE Ygnite (pronounced ignite), the young generation technical and leadership conference, is the premier conference for the 1.5 and 2nd generation Korean-Americans in the fields of technology, science, and engineering. It is generously hosted by the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA), the Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center (KUSCO), and the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST). This year the conference will be held in Dallas, Texas, a thriving startup location of technology in the United States. It will also be one of our most ambitious conferences to date. We plan on bringing together well over 200 of the brightest and most promising Korean-American scientists and engineers from all over the North America. Once in Dallas, they will have the opportunity to showcase their research, attend science and leadership panels, participate in problem solving exercises, and network with others in their field. With your partnership, we can help in developing successful and prosperous careers for young generation Korean-Americans. KSEA Young Generation Email: yg@ksea.org Website: http://yg.ksea.org BACKGROUND The Young Generation program of KSEA was founded in 1999 and the first Young Generation Technical and Leadership Conference was held in 2005 in San Francisco with 44 undergraduate and graduate students, with following conferences successfully held in the cities depicted below. The Young Generation Technical and Leadership Conference with its nickname Ygnite is now in its 11th year and has grown quite rapidly since its inception. This year will be one of our most selective conferences ever, with a goal of over 200 highly qualified participants converging in Dallas, TX. PROGRAM The Ygnite program is comprised of both technical and leadership events. As a conference that celebrates excellence in science and engineering, we hold poster fairs, research presentations, and technical overviews. We also help attendees network within their field so they can gain a broader vantage point. The leadership portion of our program combines presentations by distinguished experts from academia, industry, and business CEOs. We also provide presentation training, leadership workshops, and teamwork exercises. All of this is to ensure that our participants are fully prepared for various career path choices. For example, in our previous conferences, we have had: Technical Leadership Research Lectures on Emerging Technologies CEO Lectures on Success and Entrepreneurship Cellular and Microbiology Keynote Dinner Banquet Talks on Leadership Bioengineering Teamwork Problem Solving Competition Engineering and Computer Science Dale Carnegie Workshop on Leadership Science and Society Toastmasters Workshop on Public Speaking Medical Research Korean Heritage Session Research Poster Fair Young Generation Chapter Officers’ Workshop Career Networking Mentoring Speed Networking Career Resource Fair Participant Poster Fairs Academia Speaker Panel Networking Lunches Industry Speaker Panel Happy Hour Social “A Day in the Life” Participant Talks Wine and Cheese Night Interviewing and Negotiating Workshop Red Carpet Photo Shoot Sightseeing Business Venture Competition SPEAKERS Ygnite is fortunate to bring speakers from academia, industry, government and communities to share their experience and vision to our participants.
