Today, the ZH range of Copeland Scroll™ heating compressors is the most used technology for dedicated heat pump applications, delivering outstanding performance and reliability. Emerson Climate Technologies has now extended its ZH range with tandem-ready versions and new singlephase models. Seven Copeland Scroll™ heating compressors with a larger operating envelope have been released. ZH Range of Copeland Scroll™ Heating Compressors Energy and Climate Challenges In 2007, the European Council decided to drastically reduce green house gas emissions and the consumption of primary energy until 2020. In this plan, the share of renewable energy shall reach 20% of the total energy consumption. This will boost both government support and end-user awareness for renewable energies creating a market overall favourable to the growth of heat pump technologies. Growing Demand for Dedicated Heat Pumps Increasing energy costs of gas or oil heating systems, coupled with the need to meet CO2 emission targets, resulted in the growing interest for dedicated heat pumps. Rather than burning fossil fuels to produce heat and consequently CO2 emissions, dedicated heat pumps use renewable energy from the environment like air, ground and water. They consume up to 70 % less primary energy and therefore drastically reduce the pollution resulting from the use of fossil fuels. 2 Alco Controls Alco Controls provides a full range of controls to heat pump manufacturers across Europe. It also results in less supplementary heating to cover the full heating demand on the coldest days. High Efficiency The Copeland Scroll™ heating compressor has a special scroll design, which attains high efficiency in heat pump operating conditions, especially when the heat source temperature is low. As for all Copeland Scroll™ compressors, the run time has a positive impact on the efficiency of ZH heating compressors. Quiet Operation ZH heating compressors have been designed for low sound levels, a specific requirement for indoor heat pumps. Higher Water Temperature for All Applications The ZH heating compressor has been optimized for applications in new buildings where water temperature demand for space heating is 50°C . The ZH heating compressor with vapour injection has been further optimized to enable heat pumps to efficiently produce water temperature up to 65°C during cold winter time. This is a new technology in space heating and tap water production, which permits traditional boilers to be replaced by heat pumps in retrofit applications without changing the radiators. Highest Performance with Enhanced Vapour Injection Technology The ZH Copeland Scroll™ heating compressor with vapour injection has an additional port to inject vapour in the compression process. This improves the performance of the system by increasing the heating capacity for a given compressor displacement. Additional benefits are the reduction of the discharge temperature and the extension of the operating envelope for the production of high temperature water.
