Concentrated Acrylic Primer for Shaw 8550 Self-Leveling
Underlayment
ACRYLIC LATEX PRIMER FOR CONCRETE
DESCRIPTION
• A concentrated acrylic primer for underlayments, toppings and cement-based repair
products.
• Milky-colored re-emulsifiable primer.
USES
1. Seals the substrate and improves bonding.
2. Use on all porous substrates for priming.
3. Use for all interior installations of 8500 Shaw Level
RECOMMENDED SUBSTRATES
• Clean, sound concrete that has been shot blasted or scarified.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. SURFACE PREPARATION
1.1 All substrates must be structurally sound, stable, solid, clean and free of dust, oil,
grease, paint, tar, wax, sealers, curing compounds, form release agents, primers,
laitance, loose particles and foreign substances and debris which could reduce or impair
adhesion.
1.2 Mechanically roughen surface, especially in the case of dense and smooth
concrete, by sandblasting, water jetting, shot blasting, scarifying or grinding as required.
2. MIXING
2.1 Agitate to assure that all solids are homogenous and mix 8550 Shaw Level Primer
1:1 with water.
3. APPLICATION
3.1 Apply with a push-broom or thick nap paint roller.
3.2 Remove any puddles and allow to dry to a clear, thin film (2 hours minimum, 16
hours maximum) Apply the Shaw underlayments or repair materials as soon as the
8550 Shaw Level Primer is dry to the touch. Note: Low substrate temperatures and/or
high ambient humidity require a longer drying time
3.3 Install Shaw Underlayments when the 8550 Shaw Level Primer has dried to a
transparent film, no longer milky in color.

3.4 Concrete may require two applications of primer. Re-apply 8550 Shaw Level Primer
after first application dries [within 30 min. at 70°F (21°C)]. Note: All surfaces must be
thoroughly treated with 8550 Shaw Level Primer or alternatively Shaw EPO/PRIME (for
non-porous surfaces like unshot-blasted concrete or approved plywood), before the
installation of Shaw products.

HEALTH HAZARDS (ACUTE AND CHRONIC)
Acute: Inhalation or contact can cause irritation to eyes, skin, nose, or throat to
sensitive people. If ingested can cause nausea, vomiting, griping, and diarrhea.
Chronic: See section II of this MSDS.

Nausea; vomiting; nose and throat irritation; eye irritation; and skin irritation.
Medical Conditions That Can Be Aggravated by Exposure

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, trained personnel should initiate
artificial respirations and immediate medical attention should be
obtained.
Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Do not give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. Seek medical attention immediately.
Skin: Avoid contact with skin. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected
area thoroughly with soap and water. If irritation persists, seek immediate
medical attention.
Eyes: Flush with cool water for 15 minutes while holding eyelid open. If irritation
persists, seek medical attention immediately.

Precautions to be taken during Handling and Storage Keep container closed when
not in use. Store at 60-95°F and out of the sun. Use adequate ventilation to avoid
breathing vapors when cover is removed.
Other Precautions Avoid prolonged skin contact.

SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
Respiratory Protection: If workplace exposure limit of product is exceeded, a
NIOSH/MSHA approved air supplied respirator is required in absence of proper
environmental control. Engineering or administrative controls should be implemented to
reduce exposure.
Eyes: Goggles
Ventilation: Use in WELL VENTILATED areas only.
Protective Gloves: Impervious. (Nitrile, rubber, or better)
Other Protective Equipment: As needed to minimize contact with skin.
WORK AND HYGIENE PRACTICE Remove contaminated clothing immediately. Wash
hands, after each use and before eating, drinking, or using toiletries. Minimize contact
of product on skins.
