MONDAY 23RD MAY 2016 61 VENDORS SOLD 1146 HEAD OF STOCK THROUGH THRAPSTON MARKET LAST WEEK A good show of sheep, with one short of 900 on offer on Thursday, along with 20 prime cattle, which made for a busy day at Thrapston. National prices for lamb have fallen quite dramatically, and sooner than expected this year, which has disappointed many; hopefully, the weak pound will improve the competiveness of UK produced lamb. On another positive note, the beef price has turned a corner and increased, which caused some fierce bidding battles around the ring between the buyers. Let’s hope it follows last year’s trend, lifting each week to November. If you have any stock to market, please do not hesitate to contact our Auctioneers or market team with your entries, so that we can inform our potential buyers. We are continuously striving to improve liveweight sales in your local area, and with your support, we can achieve a much better and stronger market to sell your sheep and cattle at a premium. We are in contact with the buyers on a daily basis, and if we know what you have to sell, we can market your stock to its best ability. Our payment is guaranteed and made on time (prime stock one week after the sale and store stock as early as 3 days after the sale). We pay for all of their weight, the fifth quarter, and have no bits trimmed because they are overweight. SELL LIVE AND THRIVE. If you would like any on far m advice, our Auctioneer s would be pleased to visit you for a FREE on farm inspection. Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep - 103 Entered Auctioneer Alastair Brown A good number came forward this week, mainly ewes and lambs which topped at £78.50 a life for A J Day & Son, with their 22 Suffolk x Mule ewes with 23 strong lambs at foot. Others entered topped at £76.50 for 12 young Mule ewes, with single lambs at foot, from Andrew Geary, while some others shown didn’t make what the vendor thought they should and returned home, the lambs were a lot younger than the others entered. 4 feeding ewes topped at £65 from Andrew Geary. It’s a tricky time to be trading ewes and lambs, especially with the lamb trade. But a gamble may be worth taking for some young breeding ewes? If you have some let us know. Pigs - 4 Entered Auctioneer Alastair Brown A surprise entry of 4 small 15kg pigs sold to £10 each. Please inform us of your entries, as we do have buyers wanting small numbers of pigs. Please inform us of your entries early, to ensure that all the buyers will be present at the sale. The deadweight buyers have lifted their prices, looking for cattle, which usually happens at this time of year, with liveweight prices often increasing quicker than the deadweight. So if you have some to market, take full advantage of the live sales. Prices topped at 220p twice for Nick Sansom with some quality Limousin heifers, weighing up to 580kg, and a 15 month Limousin 580kg at 190p. Matching that was Hugh Brightwell with some heavier Limousin heifers, weighing 658kg, and realising £1234.62.
