Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Light Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Campus: Weybridge Start Date: Continuous starts throughout the year Length: Minimum 12 months (typically 24 months) Introduction: Apprenticeships are a popular choice for people aged 16 or above, looking for on the job training and the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification. An apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Mechanics will develop your employability skills and give you valuable experience of working in a motor vehicle/ garage setting. You will need to work in a garage or dealership environment, working a minimum of 30 hours per week (including training time). Apprentices will need to have a contract of employment. Job Roles: You will be working with light motor vehicles (cars) and have access to removing, repairing, replacing and testing components. This will give you on the job experience in working in a mechanical workshop. Course Details: To gain the full apprenticeship you will work towards the following qualifications: •Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Workrelated and will relate specifically to your job) •Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles •Employer Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) •Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths, English and ICT •Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) Mandatory units: •Skills and knowledge in health and safety in the automotive industry •Skills and knowledge in materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices in the automotive industry •Skills and knowledge in routine light vehicle maintenance Additional units can include: •Skills and knowledge in identifying motor vehicle customer service •Skills and knowledge in removing and replacing electrical components •Skills and knowledge in overhauling light vehicle transmission units www.brooklands.ac.uk Course Assessment: You will attend day release at college one day a week over two academic years. You will be assessed in the workplace by an assessor and your attendance at college. During your assessments targets will be set to ensure that you complete your apprenticeship on time. If you have not achieved a minimum grade C in GCSE in Maths or English within the last 5 years you will need to complete Functional Skills, these will be assessed through external examinations. Entry Requirements: A minimum standard in Maths and English is required. Typically candidates will have achieved or be expected to achieve minimum GCSE grades of D and E in Maths, English and one Science. All applicants applying for an apprenticeship will be required to attend an interview and undertake initial assessments. You will need to demonstrate an interest in working in the Motor Vehicle Sector. Career Progression: On successful completion of this qualification you could progress to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship or the Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles. Cost: Apprenticeships are fully funded for those aged 16 – 18 years.
