Our standard panel finishing process uses low
VOC sealers and lacquers that have a 20% sheen.
Our standard Norton Wood Panel product is made
of a core that carries a Class A fire-rating in accordance with test ASTM E84. Non fire-rated cores
are also available where applicable due to sprinkler
systems and other factors and do provide cost
savings when used.
It is important to note that wood color, grain and
texture can vary from panel to panel when in its
natural state. Staining can reduce these variations.
The standard panels we provide are matched by
architectural grade quality standards. Panels should
be viewed prior to installation into the ceiling to
assure color variance is appropriately positioned.
Panels can be stained to either match existing
wood in the space, match architectural selection,
or to minimize the color variance in panels.

The perimeter of the wood ceiling panel is routed
with a series of two different cuts to allow the ceiling
panel to install into heavy-duty 15/16" t-bar grid,
supplied by Norton Industries or others. Once the
panel is in position, the grid is concealed, leaving
only a 1/4" gap between panels where the t-bar grid
is 1/2" behind the surface of the panel.

The perimeter of the wood ceiling panel is routed to

surface. The standard depth of the tegular route is 1/8".

we know the dimension of the grid being used to

GEN ERAL IN STALLATIO N
Storage
Our panels are made of wood products, so they
should be stored flat, in their cartons, in a dry
location prior to installation. Use care when
handling to avoid damaging the panels or getting
them stained or scratched. The ideal conditions
for storage are humidity levels between 20% and
55% and temperatures between 50ºF and 86ºF.
Panels must not be exposed to extreme temperatures, for example, close to a heating source or
near a window where there is direct sunlight. All
climate control systems should be in place and
operational and the panels should be allowed to
adjust to conditions similar to those in which they
will be installed for a minimum of 72 hours prior
to installation. They should not, however, be
installed in spaces where the temperature or
humidity conditions vary greatly from the temperatures and conditions that will be normal in the
occupied space. Obviously, any and all construction and subsequent clean-up should be completed prior to installation.

Panels are 2.75 lbs. per square foot, and the
mains should be capable of carrying 12 lb/lf
and the cross tees 6 lb/lf.
The suspension system must be leveled to
within 1/4" in 10' and must be squared to within
1/16" in 2'. Installation of grid systems that do
not meet this tolerance will produce unacceptable panel alignment.
Flush Mount and Tegular Mount panels simply
lay into t-bar grid.
Shadow Mount panels lift and shift into heavyduty 15/16" t-bar grid.
