Where higher levels are required other design considerations can be adopted, such as extending partitions into the ceiling void or installing a plenum barrier. Design Planning - key factors Ceilings should be set out from the centre to give balanced widths of tiles at the perimeter. A number of grid layouts are possible, depending on the grid selected and the choice of ceiling tile or plank. See Construction details – 1 - 8 for alternative configurations. Designers and installers should take due regard of EN 13964, suspended ceiling - requirements and test methods. NB Relative humidity (RH) The grid is suitable for use in occupied buildings in conditions up to 90% relative humidity (RH90). However, Gyptone tiles and planks are only suitable up to RH70. Cavity barriers Where cavity barriers are required, they can be formed using Gyproc FireStop screw-fixed to a simple metal frame. The framing should be fixed to the structure to avoid undue loading of the ceiling suspension grid. The bottom of the framework should be fixed to the ceiling grid. Fire-stopping It is necessary to provide suitable non-combustible fire-stopping material at the junction of a cavity barrier with the structural perimeter and the ceiling. Fire-stopping must also be provided around any service penetrations through the cavity barrier. Fixtures Unperforated Gyptone ceiling tiles will support a point load of up to 3kg / tile for maximum 2mm deflection (1kg / tile for D2 edge tiles). This will normally allow items such as spotlights and down-lighters to be installed without the need for a support pattress. A support pattress should, however, be installed where the prevailing environmental conditions exceed 25°C and RH70, or where the size of the cut-out required is greater than 150mm diameter or 150mm square. Perforated tiles should not be used to support fixtures. Apertures for spotlights and down-lighters can be cut into Gyptone ceiling tiles using a circular tank cutter on a power drill or using a pad saw. 190 The Gyptone T24D2 grid should not be point-loaded with more than 1kg between points of suspension. Distributed loads may be max. 2kg/m of section. Built-in light fittings that are placed between grid sections are suspended separately. Gyptone plank installed in the Gyptone TI5 grid must not be loaded. Light fittings and other fixtures should be independently supported. If mineral wool is placed above the ceiling, the maximum self-supporting distance is reduced to 1800mm. Hangers should be used for increased spans Services The ceiling void above the suspension grid can be used to route all service requirements including ducting, pipework, electrical cables, and conduits. Ducting, ventilation units, etc, must be independently supported from the structure. Maintenance Ceiling tiles and planks can be cleaned using a damp cloth or soft brush. Most standard mild detergents can be used. Tiles can be re-decorated if required using a suitable emulsion paint and a short-haired brush or roller (spray painting will impair sound absorption). Gyptone tiles with Activ’Air Though we don’t notice them, impurities are often present in the air we breathe – emitted from furniture, carpets and building materials. Long-term exposure to these can potentially cause health problems and reduce general wellbeing. Clean air, on the other hand, can speed up patient recovery in hospitals, reduce absence at work, and increase pupils’ concentration at school. Activ‘Air is our latest innovative technology that improves indoor air quality by permanently removing formaldehyde circulating indoors. Formaldehyde concentration will be reduced by 70% when 1m2 of Activ’Air is installed per m3. www.gyproc.ae Construction Details 1 2 15mm and 24mm exposed lay-in grid with interlocking Main and Cross ‘T’s - for square edge A and regular edge E15 and edge E24 Gyptone GRID 6 5 1 B , C or E D 2 7 A 3 4 A Square edge A Tegular edge T24 grid-cross section T15 grid-cross section 7 B 1 2 3 4 Gyptone Main ‘T’ Gyptone Cross ‘T’ 1200mm Gyptone Wall Angle Gyptone Shadow Angle C D E 5 Suspension wire (by others) 6 Gypframe Soffit Cleat 7 Gyptone Cross ‘T’ 600mm www.gyproc.ae 191 Construction Details 2 2 Gyptone 15mm and 24mm exposed lay-in grid with interlocking Main and Cross ‘T’s - for square edge A and regular edge E15 and edge E24 Gyptone GRID 1 x x 2 Layout 1 Gyptone Tiles 600mm x 600mm (modular dimensions) Gyptone Main ‘T’ at 1200mm centres Gyptone Hangers at 1200mm centres 4 x x 3 1 1 x x 4 Layout 2 x x Gyptone Tiles 600mm x 600mm (modular dimensions) Gyptone Main ‘T’ at 600mm centres Gyptone Hangers at 1200mm centres 1 x x 3 1 1 Gyptone Main ‘T’ section 2 Gyptone Cross ‘T’ section 1200mm NB 192 3 Hanger shown as ‘x’ 4 Gyptone Cross ‘T’ section 600mm These details are for illustrative purposes only. This means that the main profiles are located above the shadow moulding. Ones the grid system is adjusted, every second main beam should be connected to the wall for stability. This is done with an connecting bracket. I When installing the Gyptone Xtensiv, use cotton gloves. Lift one side of the Xtensiv up above the grid system. Then there is enough space to lift the other side of the Xtensiv up, laying it in place on the opposite cross profile. All installations should be finished before mounting the Xtensiv plates. J It is possible to slide the Xtensiv along the cross profiles, ones it is in place in the grid system. This is needed when installing the Xtensiv plates in the perimeter of the room. K Gyptone Xtensiv can be shortened with a knife. It is possible to shorten the Xtensiv by cutting in the perforated area, if it is necessary. It is not recommended to cut in the perforated area of an Xtensiv Line, as cutting into the Line perforation will weaken the Xtensiv. L In case lighting fittings are planned, supporting profiles have to be mounted using the light fitting XT. This bracket is needed to give the Xtensiv ceiling the same visual appearance regarding the light installation, as the photo on the front page of the installation manual. The position of the brackets is related of the light fitting and ceiling layout. The light fitting XT needs to be secured with Gyproc Wafer Head Screws. To support the cut in the main beam, place a hanger near the light fitting XT. It is also possible to make a 600x600 mm recess, for a light fitting in the Xtensiv ceiling system. The method is shown on page 198. Page 198 shows the 2 possible connections between the cross profile and the cross tee. In case of a square recess in the Xtensiv ceiling, the recess should be placed between the main profiles and not under the main profiles. www.gyproc.ae 197 Construction Details 6 Gyptone Xtensiv 3 Max 300 mm 2 Gyptone GRID 1 Max 1200 mm 6 5 4 Max 300 mm Max 1200 mm Max 300 mm How to make a 600x600 mm recess in an Xtensiv ceiling 8 6 How to connect Cross Tee and Cross Profile, when making a recess in the Cross Lock system Option 1 1 2 3 4 198 Main beam unipro Cross profile unipro Shadow moulding Cross Lock connector Option 2 5 6 7 8 Adjustable hangers Connecting bracket Light fitting XT Cross profile www.gyproc.ae Construction Details 7 2 Gyptone T15 exposed metal grid fixing system - for Gyptone plank, edge E15/A A Gyptone GRID 2 1 B A C 3 (See example layouts on page 200) 1 Gyptone Main ‘T’ section 2 Gyptone Plank edge profile 3 Gyproc Wafer Head Jack-Point Screws at 300mm centres www.gyproc.ae 199 Construction Details 8 2 Gyptone T15 exposed metal grid fixing system - for Gyptone plank, edge E/A 2 Gyptone GRID 1 Layout 1 - Corridor Planks 300mm x 1800mm (modular dimensions) 2 Layout 2 - Corridor corners 300 600 x C 600 x 300 Dimensions in mm x 3 B B Layout 3 - Alcoves 300 600 x C x x Dimensions in mm x x 3 B 1 Gyptone Main ‘T’ section 2 Gyptone Plank edge profile 200 3 Hanger shown as ‘x’ www.gyproc.ae Gyptone GRID Notes www.gyproc.ae 201
