Initial release
This document provides information about finding and using NonStop manuals on the HPSC (HP
Support Center).
NOTE: If a URL link does not open in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader, you can copy and paste
the URL to the address field of your browser. You can also modify the settings for Internet Access
from PDF Files outside the web browser in the Adobe Trust Manager preferences. For more
information, see Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader help documents.

HPSC replaces the BSC
The HPSC is the go-forward, strategic support portal for HP commercial and enterprise products.
It consolidates many legacy portals, each with a variety of support content. External documentation
had existed in both the HPSC and the Business Support Center (BSC) for several months, and soon
the BSC will be retired.
Access NonStop documentation in one click
The http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-docs landing page has a direct link to each of the NonStop
documentation collections on the HPSC. Bookmark this landing page link, and bookmark the direct
links to the NonStop documentation collections you use most frequently.
IMPORTANT: These links will only work correctly if your default country has English as the official
language. After you click one if these links, if the country named at the lower left corner of your
browser is not an English language country, you will not see any manuals. See “Finding NonStop
manuals on the HPSC outside of countries where English is the official language” (page 10) if you
need instructions for changing your default country.
Bookmark all of the links associated with collections you use:
•
Manuals for J-series: http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-jdocs
•
Manuals for H-series: http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-hdocs
•
Manuals for G-series: http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-gdocs
•
Release and Migration Manuals: http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-releasedocs
•
Safety and Compliance Manuals: http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-safety_and_compliancedocs
We also have shortcuts to all of the other collections, but there is not a lot of recent content in them:
•
Softdocs Pointer: http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-softdocs
•
Troubleshooting: http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-troubleshooting
•
Service Procedures: http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-serviceprocedures
•
Service Information: http://www.hp.com/go/nonstop-serviceinfo
Navigating a collection
After you have directly accessed a collection using one of the shortcuts, you will see the manuals
listed in order of update, with the most recently updated manuals listed first. To sort by title, click
the arrow in the title column once for ascending (numerals then A to Z) order, or twice for
descending (Z to A then numerals) order.

Using Ctrl-F to locate a title
To find a document on the current page by searching for a word in the title:
1. Press Ctrl-F to open the Find dialog box in your browser.
2. Type a word that you know is present in the title of the document (should automatically appear
in the find field of your browser).
3. Click Enter to locate the first title that has that word.
4. Scroll or click Enter again to find the next title.
NOTE:
This method only finds items on the current page.
Getting to the next page of manuals
When you scroll to the bottom of a page of manuals and find that you need to advance to the next
page, use the Home key on your keyboard to quickly get back to the top of the page where the
navigation links are located.
Downloading manuals
Depending on your browser and PDF reader application, there are different ways to save a manual
(as a “file” or a “page”) to your computer. For example:
1. Open the manual.
2. Do one of the following:
•
•
Use your browser to save the file
◦
Internet Explorer: File > Save As
◦
Firefox: Save Page As
◦
Chrome: Save page as
Use the PDF reader application to save the file (consult the help for your reader application)
TIP: If can’t download the file using one of these techniques, e-mail it to yourself using Internet
Explorer: File > Send > Page by E-mailor Page > Send page by e-mail.
6
Finding NonStop documents in HTML format (IUG 2, OMM, Tuxedo 8.0)
These documents in HTML format could not be migrated:
•
Interactive Upgrade Guide 2
•
Operator Messages Manual
•
Tuxedo 8.0 Documentation
There are linked pointer documents in the HPSC for each of these documents.
Soon some of these manuals will become available as zip downloads in the HPSC.
Searching HPSC for NonStop documentation
There are several ways to search for NonStop documentation on the HPSC. Although there are
other types of support content on the HPSC, this guide focuses on manuals.
NOTE: Only the top 100 search results are ever returned for any given search, so make your
search string as specific as possible.
NOTE: The HPSC search application identifies titles of documents, but it does not highlight the
searched text within a document. Almost all NonStop documents are single PDF files, so you can
use the Adobe Reader Find or Search functions to search within a document. For more information,
see “Using the Adobe Reader Find and Search commands” (page 13).
Using contextual search (scoped)
When you search with this method, the search results are limited to the currently-selected collection.
To use contextual search:
1. Go to a collection. For more information, see “Access NonStop documentation in one click”
(page 5)
2. Enter the search term into the Search: HP Support Center field at the top of the product support
page:
Notice that the upper field is already filled in with the collection name.
Finding NonStop documents in HTML format (IUG 2, OMM, Tuxedo 8.0)

3.
Press Enter or click the magnifying glass icon to display the search results:
When you want to reset the scope
The HPSC has persistence features associated with collections. For example, if you are searching
in the J-series collection, the HPSC assumes that you will want to continue searching in only the
J-series collection. To switch to a different collection, you can edit the text in the upper field. In the
previous example, you can simply change the H to a J to search the HP Integrity NonStop J-Series
collection. Or you can copy one of these collection names below and paste it into the upper field.
•
HP Integrity NonStop H-Series
•
HP Integrity NonStop J-Series
•
HP Integrity NonStop Release and Migration
•
HP Integrity NonStop Server Safety and Compliance
•
HP Integrity NonStop Service Information
•
HP Integrity NonStop Service Procedures
•
HP Integrity NonStop Softdocs
•
HP Integrity NonStop Troubleshooting Tips
•
HP NonStop G-Series
Or you can close and reopen your browser and then select a collection as described in “Access
NonStop documentation in one click” (page 5).
Searching all NonStop content
You can search all NonStop content using a keyword, and you can limit the search to manuals
using Advanced search settings.
To perform a keyword search that is not limited to a specific collection:
1. Go to any page on the HPSC: www.hp.com/go/hpsc.
2. Locate the search field at the top of the screen:
8
Note that the Product (optional) field is blank. If necessary, restart your browser to clear any
product context, then navigate back to www.hp.com/go/hpsc.
3.
Enter the search keyword or keywords in the lower field. To limit the search to NonStop product
documents, include the keyword NonStop:
4.
Press Enter or click the magnifying glass icon to display the search results.
NOTE: You might find that the (upper) Product (optional) field becomes filled in with the
name of a collection you were previously searching. If this happens, you must restart your
browser.
This keyword search method will work anywhere in the HPSC.
Further limiting search results to manuals only
If search results include content other than manuals, for example, Knowledge Centered Support
content, you can chose to limit your search results to manuals. After you have initiated your search,
you can click Advanced search at the top of the search results pane. Then you can deselect all
content types except for Manuals, guides, and reference documents to limit your search to manuals
only. You can also choose to display up to 100 results per page. Click the search button again to
re-run the search with the new parameters.
Choose unique search strings for better results
You will get much better search results if you can remember anything unique in a manual and put
it into quotes as a search string. You can also combine a single keyword with a quoted search
string.
Example 1 Finding the best manual for TACL
What happens when you search for TACL manual in a NonStop collection on the HPSC? Think
about how many NonStop manuals have the word TACL in them? How many have the word manual
in them? We are actually lucky that the TACL Reference Manual will show up on the third page
of search results!
If you can remember two words together, especially words in the title or unusual words, results
will usually be better:
•
Searching for “TACL Reference” will return TACL Reference Manual as the first search
result.
•
Searching for “Lexical Elements” will return TACL Reference Manual as the second
search result.
Searching HPSC for NonStop documentation

You can combine a single keyword with a quoted search string:
•
Searching for TACL "INFO DEFINE“ will return TACL Reference Manual as the first search
result.
•
Searching for TACL “ABENDED: $XX” will return TACL Reference Manual as the ONLY
search result returned.
Searching for NonStop Knowledge Base content
See Support Note S11049A for information on searching for KBNS content on the HPSC.
Other advanced search options
The HPSC has other advanced search options available.
For the latest information on supported commands and operators, see the Search Help page. To
display the Search help page, click Help under the Search HP Support Center section on the left
side of the page.
Finding NonStop manuals on the HPSC outside of countries where English
is the official language
NonStop manuals, which are all in English, might not be displayed if your default country is set
to a country where English is not the official language:
1. Go to any HPSC page, such as the J-series collection of the NonStop Technical Library: http://
www.hp.com/go/nonstop-jdocs.
2. Click the map icon in the lower left corner of the page.
3.
10
In the resulting larger map, switch to an English language country by hovering over a region
and clicking on the name of a country.
4.
After you have successfully switch countries, the corresponding flag and country name will
appear in the lower left corner, next to the map icon.
Getting help or sending feedback

Workaround as of 1/5/2014
It takes too many clicks to get to the manuals.

Only 100 manuals shown at a time. People want a way
to view all of them on a page.

Sorting by title should be the default. Seeing which ones
were most recently updated is not as useful.
Click the Title column heading to re-sort by title.
Manuals are hidden from users in countries where the
language is anything other than English.

don’t have to scroll back up to get to the link for the next
page.

E-mail it to yourself using Internet Explorer.
Make your own NonStop documentation DVD
At each RVU, a downloadable iso file is created as a snapshot of all the NTL manuals on the HPSC
so that you can make NonStop documentation DVDs to use in locations without Internet access.
1. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/softwaredepot.
2. Under Our top featured products, select HP NonStop.
3. Select HP NonStop Technical Library Instant Information DVD.
4. Click the Receive for Free button, fill out the form, then click Next.
You might need to provide your HP Passport credentials before you can download the file.
Registration for the HP Passport is free of charge.
The delivery receipt page provides an option for using HP Download Manager to download
the large file.
5.
After you download the DVD image, you can either burn physical media or use a virtual DVD
drive utility to access the content.
You can either access the library directly from the DVD or install the library on your system. To
access the installation guide included on the DVD:
1. Right-click the desktop icon for the DVD and select Explore.
2. Open the file called installation_guide.pdf
This DVD .iso image snapshot is available approximately 3 days after RVU FCS.
Remember that manuals are frequently updated between RVUs, so the HPSC might have a more
recent version than what is on the DVD .iso. Sort by Updated date to find manuals that might have
been updated more recently than the previous RVU. Download any individual manuals you need
for use in locations without Internet access. After you open a manual on the HPSC, you can use
Shift+Ctrl+S to save a copy.

Using the HP Support Center Mobile App
The HPSC Mobile App has some limitations for NonStop documentation collections. If you navigate
to a NonStop documentation collection, only the first 50 manuals will be displayed. If you are
using a mobile device with at least a 7 inch display, you are probably better off just navigating
the HPSC itself using a web browser. If you do decide to use the HPSC Mobile App, you will have
best results using the search feature.
NOTE:
You must download a PDF reader to your device to view PDF manuals.
See http://www8.hp.com/us/en/business-services/it-services.html?compURI=1078323 on the
HPSC for information about downloading the HPSC Mobile App.
To use the search feature:
1. In the HPSC Mobile App, sign in using your HP Passport.
2. Click Add a product.
3. In the Product name field, enter the name of a documentation collection, such as:
4.
•
HP Integrity NonStop J-Series
•
HP Integrity NonStop H-Series
•
HP Integrity NonStop Release and Migration
•
HP Integrity NonStop Service Information
•
HP NonStop G-Series
•
HP Integrity NonStop Troubleshooting Tips
Click Done. The results depend on your OS:
•
Android: The name of the collection is at the top of the display.
•
Apple:
◦
5.
Click Servers under Show my, then select the collection.
Use the Search HP Support Center field to search for a keyword or search string.
NOTE: You must have a PDF reader on your mobile device to open and read any manuals
returned in the search results.
Using Adobe Reader features
This section describes how to configure and use Adobe Reader to locate information quickly in
NonStop PDF documents.
Enabling the Navigation pane
Always configure Adobe Reader to display the document outline as bookmarks in the Navigation
pane on the left side of the window. With the bookmarks displayed, you can navigate the document
quickly by clicking a bookmark in the left pane:
12
For information on enabling and configuring the Navigation pane, see the Adobe Reader
documentation.
Using document links
NonStop PDF documents often contain extensive internal links, which enable you to quickly navigate
to content that is referenced from other parts of the PDF. For example, you can click a page number
to navigate to that page or section:
You can click any of the following items to navigate within a PDF:
•
Cross-references with page numbers within the text.
•
Page numbers and titles in the table of contents.
•
Page numbers in the index.
•
Chapter and section titles in the Navigation pane.
Using the Adobe Reader Find and Search commands
Adobe Reader provides two methods to search for text within a PDF: Find and Search.
Using Adobe Reader features
13
Find
Find provides a simple method to quickly search for text:
•
Searches only within the current PDF.
•
No search options (for example, match case, whole word).
•
Uses Next and Previous buttons to move sequentially between search results.
•
Best when searching small documents, or for a term that is not likely to appear frequently in
a large document.
To use the Find command, press Ctrl+F, then enter your search term into the field on the Adobe
Reader tool bar:
Search
Search provides a more advanced method to search for the text:
•
Searches within the current PDF, or across all open PDFs.
•
Provides several search options, which might vary by Adobe reader version. Typical options
include: Match Case, Whole Word, Include Bookmarks, Include Comments.
•
Search results are listed in a separate window or in the Navigation pane. Each result shows
text that appears nearby to provide context.
•
Best when searching multiple documents, or for a term that is likely to appear frequently in a
large document.
To use the Search command:
1. To display the Search dialog box, press Ctrl+Shift+F.
2. Enter the search term, and select the search options:
14
3.
Press Enter or click Search.
Using Adobe Reader features
15
4.
Review the search results:
NOTE: In some versions of Adobe Reader, search results might appear in the Navigation
pane instead of a separate window.
