Problem:
Plan and re-design/re-model two shipping containers into a small unit for the couple to eat, sleep, relax and live in. The couple are adventurous, and enjoy all swimming activities, including snorkelling and diving, kayaking as well as having friends over for dinners. The couple are planning on having a baby as some stage too.
Specifications:
You are given two shipping containers to work with.
You will need to include:
2 bedroom
Kitchen
Toilet/bathroom
Laundry
Living room/dining room/socialising room
You will need to consider:
How people move in, out and around the building
Exterior and interior spaces
Layout of interior spaces
Climate , sun direction, solar power, rainfalls
Building materials
Possible landscape design
Design Requirements
Develop a spatial design through graphics practice
Spatial design is the design of inside and outside spaces
Show and document development of bubble diagrams and/or paper architecture
Show understanding of materiality, sustainability, environmental issues, climate influence, building materials, detail sketches and organisation of space and light.
Use a range of techniques and approaches such as architectural drawings, rendering and/or photo montage
Achievement
Develop a spatial design through graphics practice
Students Should:
Explore, refine and show design ideas that draw on spatial design knowledge, such as diagrams, modelling, building materials, and/or environmental issues.
Make design judgements on the positive and negative aspects of aesthetic and functional features of the design in response to your given brief.
Achievement with Merit
Clearly develop a spatial design through graphics practice
Students Should:
Review and refine your design ideas that incorporate and clearly show spatial design knowledge
Make and show design judgements on relevant features of design, in response to the given brief, that inform and show a progression of design ideas.
Achievement with Excellence
Effectively develop a spatial design through graphics practice
Students should:
Review and refine wellconsidered design ideas that integrate spatial design knowledge throughout development

Problem: Design a piece of furniture that is compactable and easy to store.
Specifications:
The product must incorporate the work of the same influential designer you used in your spatial design
The furniture piece must be easy to pull apart or be collapsible to fit into a smaller space.
The product must not exceed 3m squared
Ensure you address the brief in terms of where will it be placed in your space and taking into consideration: size, aesthetic, construction, and how can you make it ergonomic and user-friendly
Consider elements of function relating to this type of product (such as ergonomics, shape, movement, maintenance, durability)
Consider elements of Aesthetics relating to
Product Design (such as style, form, shape, and colour)
Design Requirements:
Develop a product design through graphics practice
Product design knowledge should consider and show: market research, anthropometrics, and ergonomics, mock up, materiality, joining, assembly, sustainability, fittings and finish.
Design judgements are decisions made, or opinions expressed that may reflect the designer’s perspectives, values, tastes or views
Achievement
Develop a product design through graphics practice
Students Should:
Explore, refine and show design ideas that draw on product design knowledge, such as market research, anthropometrics, ergonomics
Make design judgements on the positive and negative aspects of aesthetic and functional features of the design in response to your given brief.
Achievement with Merit
