Signal conditioners take signals from an assortment of field instruments such as thermocouples and RTDs, and convert those signals into any of several standard instrument signals (1-5 V, 4-20 mA, etc.) while providing isolations. Signal conditioners are also beneficial to the accurate transfer of these signals and the elimination of ground loops. Pepperl+Fuchs signal conditioners utilize the latest technology, offering unparalleled protection against ground loops while maintaining optimum signal accuracy and complete isolation. There are three basic types of KF signal conditioners: Loop Powered Repeaters/Isolators: Loop powered repeaters do not require a separate power supply. Available in single and dual channel models, these transformer isolated signal conditioners transfer analog DC signals with each channel working as a DC isolator providing 2,500 VDC isolation between the input and output. Analog Isolators: These units require a separate power supply and provide signal conditioning and 3-way isolation to various input signals. Limit Alarms: This class of signal conditioners provides two Form C relay outputs with adjustable high and low switchpoints and selectable control safe and normal operation. They also require a separate power supply and provide 3-way isolation. The latter two categories are fully field-configurable and provide 1,800 VDC isolation separating input, output and power supply. Input and output ranges, modes of operation, switchpoints, etc., can be programmed in the field via DIP switches on the side of the housing. Some models also offer a PC interface. Input, zero, and span are adjustable by potentiometer to 50% for all input ranges. The wideranging capabilities and field-configurable settings allow for numerous options in a diverse range of applications. All P+F analog isolators and limit alarms also contain the ASIC chip for increased reliability. ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuitry) substantially reduces failures by virtually eliminating discrete components and their solder joints where most faults occur. Printed circuit board connections are reduced by 70%. This limit alarm also effectively eliminates ground loops with 1,800 VDC isolation separating input, output and power supply. Setpoints can be configured as HI or LO in selectable controlsafe or non-controlsafe operating modes. The KFDA-DCV relies on deadband (hysteresis) and constant sampling of the input to prevent false switching when the input varies slightly on either side of the setoint. The input must remain beyond the setpoint for 100ms, uninterrupted, to qualify as a valid trip condition. To return the alarm to an untripped condition, the input signal must be outside the deadband and remain there for 100 ms. This time-based dynamic deadband, in addition to the evaluation of hysteresis, improves setpoint stability. Select unipolar operation for inputs that do not change in polarity. Signal Conditioners Mechanical Housing Dimensions (mm) Weight Protection (IEC) Model Number The KFDA-DCV is equipped with three LEDs. The first is a green INPUT LED which indicates DC power and input signal status. If this LED does not illuminate on power-up, check wiring connections. When the signal input is over 110% of the full scale range, the INPUT LED will flash at 8 Hz; below 0% it will flash at 4 Hz. Each setpoint has its own LED which indicates the relay state; an illuminated LED indicates a tripped condition. This unit is not intrinsically safe. Three-way galvanic isolated units convert 0/4-20 mA, 0/1-5 V and 0/2-10 V signals into trip point outputs. Signal Conditioners For high alarm indication, the status of the contact output changes when the setpoint is exceeded and will not reset until a lower value is met. The difference between these states is the adjustable hysteresis. The trip alarm is adjustable by a selector switch and potentiometer. A monitoring voltage output of 0-10 V can be used to adjust limit values and hysteresis without interrupting the input signal. This unit is not intrinsically safe.
