Mechanical Engineering and Automation
CULTIVATION OBJECTIVES
The goal of this specialty is to cultivate students’ abilities in using digital technology to conduct
products design & manufacturing and using automation technology to retrofit manufacturing system,
strengthen students’ humanistic quality, leading ability and innovative ability, and broaden students’
international horizon as well as stimulate their knowledge–thirsting spirit.
After graduation from this specialty, the students should become high-level professional talents with
profound basic theories and sound specialized knowledge in mechanical design, manufacturing and
automation and the ability of conducting engineering design, machinery manufacturing, technical
development, scientific research, production organizing and management in mechanical engineering and
automation field.

CHIEF ASPECTS OF PRACTICAL TEACHING



Basic Engineering Practices: Measurement & Control Technology, Metalworking Process, Modern
Processing.
Workshop Practice: All students are required to participate in the practical operations in the
following internship bases and learn the ability of finding and solving production practical problems:
Chery Automobile Corporation Ltd., YTO Group Corporation Ltd., Xi’an Aero-Engine (Group), Ltd.,
Little Giant Machine tool Co., Ltd.
Engineering practices: During the summer vacations of the first and second years, some students
are required to contact enterprises by themselves to participate in social practice activities, so as to
cultivate their self-development and interpersonal communication ability, and the department is
responsible for the qualification according to the report submitted by the students.



General practices (CDIO cultivation mode) are divided into two kinds:
Required modules: curricular project 0: Mechanical Design (for all students)
Elective modules: (each student may select any one of them)
curricular project Ⅰ: CAD/CAE/CAM;
curricular project Ⅱ: Products Design & Development
curricular project Ⅲ: Process Planning & FMS
curricular project Ⅳ: Equipment Control & Fault Diagnosis
curricular project Ⅴ: Operation & Monitoring of Electromechanical System
curricular project Ⅵ: Mold Design & Making
Graduation project: Duration: one year. In the 7th semester, the main tasks of students are
investigation and information collection and conducting preliminary experiments; and in the 8th
semester, they present scientific research results and write thesis.
