3 116/97/NP Annex This proposed new Part 1 standard will be a successor to IEC 60745-1 Ed. 4.0 for hand-held tools as well as IEC 61029-1 Ed. 1.0 for transportable tools. It would also be used as the Part 1 standard for future editions of particular requirements for electric motor-operated lawn and garden machinery currently aligned with IEC 60335-1. Future editions of current TC 116 Part 2 standards will be aligned with this new Part 1 standard. The general numbering system will become: Part Part Part Part 1: General requirements. 2-XX: Particular requirements for hand-held tools. 3-XX: Particular requirements for transportable tools. 4-XX: Particular requirements for lawn and garden machinery. The main changes compared to IEC 60745-1, fourth edition, include: requirements in various clauses introduced or modified in order to include the requirements for transportable tools and lawn and garden machinery (formerly covered by IEC 61029 and IEC 60335); leakage current test and electric strength test moved from former Clauses 13 and 15 to Annexes C and D, former Clauses 29, 30 and 31 renumbered to become Clauses 6, 13 and 15; requirements for electronic Safety Critical Functions added to Clause 18, requirements for switches revised and moved from Annex I to Clause 23, clarifications in respect to soft materials (elastomers) added to Clauses 9, 19 and 13, plastic aging test added to Clause 13, test finger in Figure 1 of IEC 60745-1 and test probe in Figure 2 of IEC 60745-1 replaced by reference to basic IEC standards, requirements for Li-Ion battery systems added to Annexes K and L. This project is being issued as a New Work Item Proposal (NP) and a Committee Draft for Vote (CDV) simultaneously in accordance with AC/8/2003. If this NP is not approved, the CDV ballot will be automatically cancelled. A CDV of this proposed new Part 1 standard will be circulated two months after the circulation of this New Work Item Proposal.
